Convenient menu with Extra large sandwiches wrapped in butcher paper and made ready to bring to the beach!

Nice shop offering 7 sandwich choices between $ 10-$ 12. A bit pricey, but the sandwiches were large and filling. No soda fountain or tap water; just bottled beverages. Happy to have an alternative to burgers and fried food. Surprising not busy at 12:30 on a Wednesday August afternoon.

Over priced and unimpressive. Would not recommend coming here for sandwiches. Pizzas at other tables looked good.

A nice coffee shop just blocks from Lake Michigan. My family likes to come in for coffee and ice cream. This past summer, every time we have been in we have been served by a young bearded fellow who makes a mean espresso. We frequent this establishment and always get consistent service and food. A+ for the coffee & A+ for the bearded fellow. We will be back.

Ran out of turkey. How does a sandwich place run out of turkey? The upside, the waffle cones smell fantastic.

Holy cow! I’ve grown up in Detroit, and was craving a decent latte all week after camping, and stopped here. There are very few places(even in the city) that make a latte right, but this place NAILEDIT. Loved the coffee shop atmosphere and that you can totally hang out. My 4 siblings all bought ice cream, which was also good. If we are ever up here again, we’ll be stopping by.

Stopped in for a coffee and a sandwich little on the pricey side but the cinnamon roll was really good and so was the coffee very friendly and quaint

Their pizza is very good, especially after a good summer swim in Glen Arbor. Highly recommended!

OMG– AWESOME sandwich place! I found this gem on Unilocal as we were in need of a quick bite before heading to the dunes. I had Gemma’s Turkey– the cranberry sauce was delightful and the bread was awesome! I can’t remember the name of it but it was the one w/nuts or seeds. Friendly service and filling sandwiches– I would stop there again if in the area

Michigan favorites smelt and whitefish on the menu. Smelt was breadef and deep fried, it was good. Whitefish was ok. Root beer on draft not too sweet. Delicious for those like me that are rootbeer connoisseurs such as me.

Gemma’s was a perfect little stop for us in Empire. We had just finished the dune climb, so were thirsty and needed a good snack on our way to the beach. We ordered a sandwich to share, and for a cold-cut sandwich, it was great! Lots of meat and cheese, with crispy lettuce and onions, and juicy tomato, with a great ground mustard to spread on the flavorful bread. We also got some of their house-made herb-infused lemonade. Georgia swamp, I think is what they called it. Wow– maybe it was due in part to how thirsty I was after being out in the sun climbing up and down sand dunes for three hours, but this stuff was amazing. Sweet, but not too much, and so perfect with the fresh herbs! I’m sure I will return to Gemma’s next time we are Up North!

Being from a big city, I never would have thought I could get a good latte in Empire, MI. This place was great! Not only did they make a great latte, but I loved their ham and Swiss croissant.

Bicycle touring into a 17 mph headwind all morning, we found this coffee oasis in Empire. A latte, a cappuccino, a delicious homemade blueberry scone and two sandwiches later we were ready to head back into the wind for our final 40 miles of the day.

Gemma’s is my favorite coffee shop in Leelanau County. The baristas(especially Jessica!) know how to make a fantastic latte/espresso/macchiato/etc., a rarity in Northern Michigan, and they use beans from So Good Coffee, a fantastic local business. They have free wifi and actually encourage you to hang out. Gemma’s also has delicious sandwiches(chicken pesto is my favorite) and baked goods that they make fresh every day(try the«nutty puffy thing»). They also have ice cream, and if you want a drink or a more substantial meal, the Empire Village Inn is next door. Plus, it’s just a short walk from gorgeous Empire Beach. Every time I come back to Leelanau County I make sure to come to Gemma’s.

Visited Gemma’s(and the restaurant attached) while exploring the beautiful Michigan coast & dunes. LOVED the ice cream & fresh waffle cones that the hubs and I devoured and the staff was really friendly!

Just visiting Sleeping Dunes National Lakeshore for a week and found this great little place for coffee. They have espresso drinks, sandwiches and in-house baked goods. The service was great and the baked goods were exceptional. I live in Seattle and didn’t think the baked goods would be good, but the cinammon rolls and pecan rolls were the best I have had in years. The coffee is locally roasted, which isn’t always a good thing, but in this case it was. It is within visual distance of the Lakeshore information bereau and in the same building as the Village Inn. They said they were going to winter hours soon. Also the colors to the trees are great in the region right now.
