The Tin Plate is Elwood’s newest restaurant, and it’s exciting to see local tastes represented so well. The Tin Plate is a little off the beaten path, but once you’re there, you won’t be disappointed. They serve a host of local favorites, including an epic tenderloin sandwich that’s prepared by hand just the way it’s supposed to be. I’m not even ashamed to say that I ordered it twice within 48 hours on my most recent visit. Absolutely love that the Tin Plate features live music from time to time, and the restaurant staff and owner really do their best to be sure everyone is having a good time. Plenty of seating available, and they handle larger groups extremely well. Don’t be afraid to call in ahead of time with a large party – they’ll make the room. Don’t be surprised if nearly every table in the place is full, even in the middle of the week. They have outdoor seating in the summer months. The menu features comfort and local foods, but they frequently concoct some interesting special or spin on the food so it’s worth more than one visit. As mentioned before, the pork tenderloin is one of the best that I’ve had in a very long time and represents the Hoosier tradition with full gusto. Only locals will know, but they’ve also managed to recreate the Manhattan recipe from the legendary Wolf’s restaurant that used to be located in downtown Elwood. Representing that experimentation of local flavors, you can get a manhattan/tenderloin hybrid that may be one of a kind. Well worth the adventure.
