When my fiancé told me about this place that helped people make their own wine, I was elated! We decided to make a Cabernet for our wedding. They let us choose, crush and press our own grapes, transfer them into oak barrels(for aging), design our labels and participate in the bottling process, so it was truly Ben and Jessica’s artisan wine :) The first few steps went smoothly, BUT after the grapes were transferred into the barrels for aging, we started getting postponement emails for the«Wine Visitation Times» and then no correspondence at all. It took my fiancé nearly two months to get into contact with them and they responded with a somewhat cryptic email about when we would be able to check on our wine. We were starting to think we had been taken when we FINALLY got the news that it was time to bottle(months late). While our experience was anything but smooth, MYO gets a lot of repeat customers and I haven’t heard any complaints outside of our wine group. MYO does a lot of quality control behind the scenes by monitoring acidity, temperature and yeast content, so you don’t get the disastrous wine results of an amateur. In fact, the wine that we made turned out at least as well as a $ 25 – 35 bottle, cost a little less than that on average, and, best of all, was made by us! Summary: I would have given MYO two stars, but I have heard only good things from other customers, so our experience may have been a fluke. The wine is great and, at least at the beginning, we felt very involved in making it.
