I needed to have my car towed because of the radiator leaking last night and originally called Gary’s. They gentleman on the phone gave me price quote over the phone, but said it may be more and that the tow truck driver would be able to give a more accurate quote when he arrived. The tow truck driver showed up but refused to give me any estimate of the towing cost until he dropped the car off because he «did not know what equipment it would take to drop the car off at my house». I explained that my driveway is not complicated and that I wanted to know what range in price I was looking at, but the driver still refused to give me an idea on price. This got me really nervous and I told him that I could not agree to the towing when I had no idea what price I was looking at. At this point I cancelled the tow because I had no Idea what it would cost. This is the first time I have ever had a car towed and I am not sure if this is an industry standard practice, but the second towing company I called was able to give me a firm quote over the phone, which the driver verified on arrival(Incidentally, it was about $ 10 cheaper than bottom end price of Gary’s). I am still giving Gary’s 3 stars because the driver was mostly professional and did not give me to much of a hard time about cancelling the tow.
