A couple of weeks ago I got some takeaway here. It was late and my husband and myself were craving some Thai food. The restaurant was buzzing — and the waiters were super sweet(I would definitely sit down here and eat sometime). We got shrimp salad and the panang curry. The shrimp salad was really tasty *yummy* but the panang curry was just«okay» — kind of missed some«kick» and that«umph». Can’t wait to try out some of the other dishes here though.

The new renovations are nice so i finally tried Ploy Thai. Before the renovations, Ploy Thai looked very much like a Chinese takeout place, After renovation, it finally looks like somewhere you want to stay and eat at. I past by Ploy Thai and decided to order the Lard Nar for takeout. The Chinese Broccoli, or as I call it, Gai Lan, was brown which means it was way overcooked. It was actually quite disgusting. I never seen it brown before, usually it is bright green. Also, if you could see the portion of rice noodles they gave me, you would never believe how little there was. Mind you, broad rice noodles are mad cheap. It’s just pasta. Did they run out of ingredients that day!!! It was the worst takeout I’ve had. I am never coming back.

I can’t believe, how bad of a meal I had at this place. The appetizers we had, seemed like they were from a frozen food section at BJ’s. The entrees were very small and not that tasty. $ 10 for a chinese sausage fried rice, definitely not worth it. At most, maybe a link and half of chinese sausage but how do you justify the cost. Rice, eggs, sausage and scallions. The basil chicken over century eggs was salty and very greasy. Do not waste your time here. If you want real food, go to SriPraPhai!

We came here for lunch and they had a lunch menu that costs $ 7 – 9 depending on the meat choice. For the two of us, we decided on getting two appetizers and a lunch entrée. The fried egg roll was interesting. The dough on the outside did look like a web and was light and crispy. The chicken puffs were a little on the sweet side because there were sweet potato inside. The drunken noodle was the best and the spice level was perfect. If only the lunch portion was a little bigger. Cute joint for small parties.

This hit the spot without burning a hole through my stomach and intestines. I began with the kum khai soup. It had that spicy/sour taste of typical thai soups with generous cuts of chicken. But the soup wasnt the star. I substituted crispy pork for beef. The meat had a great balance of heat and some sweetness. In fact, that slight sweetness wetted the appetite and pulled one in for more. The portion size was good without being overly generous(ie ruining your caloric intake for the day). Im excited to go bacm

The place is small so it’s not good for big groups. I think it’s fine if you just wanted something quick and don’t know what to order so normally if that happens, that’s when I order pad thai or fried rice. Besides that everything I had was just okay for me. Nothing stands out of the norm.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. It’s small and cute for a lunch or a quick bite to eat. It was overall pretty clean. The food tasted sooo good! I ordered pork Pad Thai with Thai iced tea. The tea was strong but the waitress was nice enough to bring over a little cup of half and half to lighten it. Also, maybe because they were getting ready to close, I don’t think my pork was cooked thoroughly… Lol and my boyfriend ordered massman curry(sweet and tangy coconut curry with chicken and potatoes). The food came fast and we appreciated this restaurant’s late closing time because we were able to get a quick late dinner. I don’t recommend coming here by train because the elm hurst train station especially by Broadway park at night is sketchy. Would def recommend driving here if coming at night.

We went here after an eight hour period where I had not eaten, hydrated or peed so by the time I showed up, I was hangry and in mild renal failure. This may color my review a little bit because by the time I walked in, I was ready to eat cardboard but I think that even objectively, Ploy Thai is some of the best southern Thai food I’ve had in NYC. FIRST, they have one of my favorite Thai dishes of all time, pork sautéed with chilies and deep fried thousand year egg. I’ve written about this dish before when I raved about it at S&I in Boston, but had yet to see it on a menu in NYC. This version is listed as chicken on the menu, but they will happily make the substitution if you ask. The result is fatty, spicy, funky and awesome spooned over some rice. We also ordered the drunken noodles with vegetarian duck, my standard order at most Thai places. Ploy Thai’s version does not disappoint. Underneath the sweet, salty, spicy lingers the elusive flavor of wok hay — that smoky, wok kissed char that so many noodles in this city are lacking. The vegetarian duck is flavorful and toothsome. My only complaint is that perhaps the dishes were a little too salty. While good for spooning over rice, the level of salt both overshadowed more subtle flavors and did nothing good for my poor kidneys.

Please note this review is for the Thai iced tea only — continuing with my comparative study of Thai iced and bubble teas in the neighborhood. Good but I thought it a tad pricey at $ 3.27(including tax). Usually $ 2.75 elsewhere. I liked it, not overly sweet but tonnes of ice which made me a bit sad because I felt like I got less of the actual beverage. But maybe you can ask for less ice. So ok from me. Pleasant staff and inside of restaurant is very nice and looks clean and modern so will re review when I get a meal there.

Today is my 2nd time back after the renovation and i think they failed on service. The waiter did not write down my order and got everything wrong. Doesnt look like i will be going back here even if the food is good.

I love this place, I have only dined in here once, but that was before the renovation. The staff are always very friendly. They always help me and teach me how to say the names for the food in Thai. I have a lot of favorite dishes here, like the Fried Fish with Chili Sauce, Drunken Noodles, and Yum Woon Sen Salad. I also like the Pad See Ew, and Pineapple Fried Rice. The Steam dumplings are amazing with the dipping sauce, and for finishers you can’t go wrong with the Tom Yum Soup and a Thai Iced Tea.

An orderly and modest petite Thai restaurant. Not ideal for big groups, but a family of four or a dinner date with your significant other would be perfect. We started off with Tom Kha Gai and Chicken Curry Puffs. The soup was rather salty, as oppose to its light and sweetness. The puffs were flaky with bold curry flavor. They were also different from the other local Thai restaurants because they integrated sweet potatoes in them. Yum! For entrees we ordered Drunken Noodle(don’t worry, you won’t become inebriated!!!) and Khao Kook Kapi. If you prefer heat, Drunken Noodle would be an excellent choice. It is flat noodles stir fried with basil and A LOT of peppers. Khao Kook Kapi was the highlight dish of the night. Shrimp paste fried rice with delectable sides to complement the meal. There were eggs, mangos, sweet pork, cucumbers, onions, etc. The different aromas simply contribute to the fireworks in your mouth! You’d taste sweet, salt, tart, and light all at once! Do yourself a favor and give it a try! Overall, a simple place with great food.

They were temporary closed for 3 whole weeks and now they have finally reopened … with a whole new modern look — I was super impressed! Ploy Thai will now be back on rotation for dine in and not just for pickups. * They now accept credit cards.
