Cute novelty but food is mediocre. Who doesn’t want to try«chingers“when you hear the name?! The ambience is cute and the store is very clean. Because of the low price, I wanted to order all to try on my first visit. I had the cumin beef chingers and the cold rice noodle bowl. The bread/pita was too dry and the meat flavor was bland. The noodle bowl had good sauce but Its overpowered by noodles, I wished to have more tofu and cucumber toppings.

Meh. Food is OK, nothing I would really go out of my way for. Just something you might want to hit that has different flavors if you’re coming out to queens to explore different types of food.

I don’t see anything wrong with this place, dunno why people are so unsatisfied. I got meat in my chinger and it was good. It was braised beef(or pork? Don’t remember) with cilantro. A good cheap snack. You get what you pay for. The seating is cramped and not cozy, the interior is very small, but what do you expect in a roadside Queens Chinese food spot? The store front looks nice so maybe that’s why the interior may have been disappointing to some. Also, yes, the name is stupid. But that’s what drew me in. It’s accidentally hilarious!

While deciding where to eat, my husband and I had the following exchange: «Hey, what about Chinger?» «That’s not cool. You shouldn’t use that word.» (After a pause) «NO! I didn’t say ‘chink’. The name of the place is Chinggggg-ger.» While portmanteaus typically make for clever food names(cronuts, appletinis, and frappuccino, to name a successful few), the amalgamation of ‘Chinese’ and ‘burger’ end up sounding unfortunately similar to a racial epithet. Qualms about the branding aside, the idea of a Chinese burger is an inspired one that unfortunately falls flat in practice. I ordered the veggie burger, which emerged from the kitchen on a small plate with a spilled mess of vegetal filling that the smaller bun seemed to have given up all efforts to contain. Heaps of shredded cabbage, picked daikon, and seaweed salad made up the lion’s share of this burger but provided minimal flavor participation. Thankfully, pieces of well-marinated wheat gluten made their shy appearance in random bites. These were passable in texture and taste, but even they were almost immediately dominated by the dense buns. Stiff, dry, and chewy(in all the wrong ways), it was a terrible carb vehicle for a truly mediocre filling. Perhaps the other meat-filled burgers are better but I can’t imagine that they would be much of an improvement if they use the same unfit buns. Though the namesake dish is clearly off key, there are other things on the menu. Look around the small restaurant and you’ll find more people slurping down bowls of noodles rather than the sandwiches; I would recommend following suit. Chinger also has a few promising over-rice dishes that look promisingly palatable. While the meal was not the greatest, the space is cozy and the service was warm and helpful.

Maybe I’m not a picky eater so I don’t see much of a problem of this place? Okay so I came here with a friend bc she really love this place so I decided to come here with her to see why she loves this place a lot. Gotta admit I was a little skeptical to come to this place just bc its 3 rated and read a lot of bad reviews. But then I feel like you should never just judge a place thru a rating or reviews you gotta judge it yourself. But anyway I got the spicy beef ramen noodles & it was around 6 $. There are only like two tables and one small counter for you to sit and eat. So when I got the noodles I gotta admit I didn’t really like the noodles texture just bc its not really my style since it is a little watery in a way? But the beef and the soup was the thing that make me enjoyed a lot. The soup was super tasty and the spicy was just right amount. Okay so when you finish you gotta throw it out right? So where’s the garbage or trash can? The thing is there’s none bc they use a draining water basket to pour out the soup and the rest of the leftover. So basically this place is like a self service so no tips need to be given! But overall I would come back here if I’m really craving for their noodles or if my friend want to come but other than that I don’t see myself coming here alone or ever think about this place tbh.

Decent authentic Chinese fast food! I love the pork chinger & beef chinger(think barbacoa tacos) but did not like the meat & veggie chinger(seaweed salad does not go well with cumin beef). Their noodle soups are pretty good as well! I usually like spicy, but will have to go for mild next time since the spicy option here was way out of my league. I would definitely recommend you try this place at least once if you are ever in the Elmhurst area! For only $ 3 for a burger/sandwich, that cannot be beat!

If it wasn’t for my bf, I probably would have never set foot in Chinger even though it has been around in my neighborhood for quite some time now. Not only is the name unsettling, but also what the name stands for — Chinese Burger. The thing is I don’t really have anything else to compare it to as Chinger is perhaps the ONLY Chinese Burger spot there is in Queens, if not the entire New York state. Nonetheless, I did not like it one bit. My bf had the Pork and I had the Meat & Veggie chinger. He also ordered the Baby Octopus which looked like red squiggly worms on the picture and seemed even more unappetizing in reality. I did not realize the Meat & Veggie chinger came with seaweed salad, which I am not a fan of. Some seaweed salads I can handle, but this was too fishy for my taste. So my bf and I switched. His tasted the same as mine, just without the veggies. I added vinegar, soy sauce, and whatever red paste thing they had on the table because the chinger on its own did not have much flavor. Even with these condiments, my taste buds were not agreeing. I went up to the counter and asked if the octopus was raw. She looked at me — confused. I asked again, «Is it uncooked?» Again, still confused. I gave up and said, «Never mind.» Does the owner think that only one type of race goes there? It’s fine if you don’t speak English perfectly, but you’d think they would at least comprehend terms that are food related. Unfortunately, Chinger is probably not the only place whose employees do not speak/understand English well. It’s an Asian neighborhood. What can I say… Regardless, it becomes frustrating after a few encounters. This review is not based on the worker’s performance per se, but on the food alone. Nonetheless, I think it’s fair to mention this part of my experience because as a customer, whether I am in an upscale or a downscale place, I expect to be able to communicate and have my questions answered(esp if it’s about the menu).

I want to rate them –5 stars if I can. I had my most disgusting meal this year here: a veggie chinger. It is hard to image how they could come up with the horrible idea to put seaweed salad into a burger. And their buns were extremely dry, hard, and tasteless. Furthermore, the waitress was really rude to me. I have no idea about their meat burgers but I definitely will not come back.

I tried two chinger burgers, the pull pork and cumin pork, and I have to say it was dissatisfying. The buns and meat was dry. The burgers lacked flavors and was overwhelmingly greasy. Sadly I have to give them two stars. One star for the meal, and the other for the service.

well this is my first time having a Chinese burger. I came here because I work in the area so I had my lunch here. I had the Meat and Veggie Chinger with the meat being beef instead of pork. It was good to me I liked how they seasoned the meat and vegetables. They are messy but in a good way. I see a lot of bad reviews but this is my first one and mine was good. I guess I have to try others from different places to compare if I can every find another place that serves them. But I recommend Chinger the place is decent and the service is fast.

not too bad! the set up was kind of weird because it looks like its connected to the hot pot place next door but its separated by a sign. anyway! the people behind the counter were not exactly the most welcoming and were a little blah. don’t come here if you’re looking for smiles lol. the food was pretty good though! my boyfriend and i ordered 4 chingers: 1 pork, 1 beef, 1 cumin beef and 1 mixed vegetables and meat. the best ones were definitely the latter 2. the flavors were so good and the sandwiches were deliciously greasy! the mixed vegetable and meat chinger had seaweed salad and I LOVE seaweed salad. the cumin beef was pretty rad. the other two were just really plain and bland. but add some soy and they’re not so bad. for 4 chingers with a bottle of water for less than $ 15 i think you get a solid deal. want some greasy«trendy» chinese food? chinger’s got it!

Dry meat, dry buns… Not a fan. I gave Chinger the benefit of the doubt when I tried their buns again since I was planning to give them a review now that I am more active on Unilocal. It seems like the reviews are very split for Chinger here. Okay, so I gave it a second try to do my own investigation… unfortunately, it didn’t change my opinion the first time. Both times, I ordered the Spicy Cumin Beef — very tasteless, dry — like it’s overcooked. More like, it’s greasy on one side of the bun and super dry on the other half. Lacking consistency here. What made it worse is the buns… super, super dry and hard to chew on. My companion ordered his Pork burger like last time — same answer as me, very dry on one side and very greasy on the other half. Very little meat — pork was not seasoned very well. Not impressed and disappointed. Worst of all? No lamb option. We’re SO done here. Overall, I gave it the benefit of the doubt to try it twice. Unfortunately, it’s as bad as it is. I would avoid getting the burger here.

I don’t know WHY this place got such low reviews — it’s pretty authentic. I loved rou jia mo when I was living in china and haven’t found a place that did it well. The beef«chinger»(not cumin) could have been saltier but the seasoning is on point. So authentic, greasy, delicious! Texture was perfect — not too fatty and not too dry. People complaining about the grease have obviously never been to China — the pork capital. Ate so much pig, I can’t even look at it anymore. Rip-off of Xi’an? I doubt it, because ro jia mo is a street-food staple in Asia(ahh 3AM drunk on a Friday night)… so Xi’an is the only place that can do it? Xi’an was overrated but thank you for bringing this to nyc. TL;DR Everyone needs to be on these beef chingers with extra cilantro because this place does them authentically.

Chinger = Chinese burger. This place specializes in the roujiamo, which is popular all over China. I have had it at a couple places in Queens before. The one offered here is above average and this place is as good as any to try it if you’ve never had it before. Their flatbread was warm and crunchy(not old and dry like some places). The meat was also very juicy, especially the cumin beef flavor with its slight spiciness. This place is tiny and has a limited menu consisting mainly of the burgers with your choice of meat and some noodle soups.

Chinese style burger shop. This place is very small only for about 6 people seating area. So I think most of customers order to go. This place is part of the next restaurant Shell Cove. There is no waiter service. The space is too small, but I can’t complain because their food is good and cheap. There was open counter sheets so we ate in. I ordered original Pork Chinger, and my boyfriend ordered Vegetable Chinger. Also, we ordered a soup noodle to share. Total was about $ 11. Cheap! Bun is toasted and outside is little bit crispy. Inside of bun is chewy in good way. The ingredients was pork, and saltiness was perfect. Chinese spice smelled very good. When I ordered, I was asked about how spicy soup I wanted, so I answered, «Spicy.» I could taste that the used Szeachuan Pepper and I loved the flavor! I tried my boyfriend’s vegetable Chinger, and it was made from vegetable pickles. I prefer Original meat Chinger, but I saw they have Pork and Vegetable Chinger, so I want to try that next. They have beef burger and other small dishes like salad, too.

Born in Xi’an, I cannot count how many Rou Jia Mo I have had. I tried xi’an famous food twice, but not a fan. Their meat was too fat for me. Used a groupon at Chinger today, around $ 1 or so for one burger. We bought the first 4 on menu. Plenty of lean meat, nice size. Honestly, the burgers were even better than some in Xi’an. The name Chinger simply means a man with the last name Qin. And it is a full service restaurant with self-serv bar I’m front. I definitely will come back if I’m craving for some food from my hometown.

I visited Chinger because of their Groupon offer; get four Chinger for $ 10. It is not much of a savings but it is something new to try. A «Chingers» is just a marketing alias for the Northern-style Xi’an beef pancakes. Their prices are reasonable compare to Chinatown. Chinger price range from $ 2.50 — $ 2.80. We tried the Pork, beef, beef cumin and veggie. In general they are good. Some are spicy and some are salty which is the style of Xi’an cuisines; spicy, salty, and sour. The pancake was a little on the dry side. Over all Chinger rating: 3⁄5 — 4⁄5. I liked the spicy beef and the veggie. Note: The place is clean and connected the the hotpot place next door; probably the same owner. Tip: Not a lot of parking on Broadway. Try one street(south) over. Seating is limited; I order takeout. You will need several napkins for the sauce running out of it or eat fast!
