Catering & Customer Service = Two thumbs down! I love to support small, local businesses, but I get the feeling R&R is taking on more than they can handle by expanding into clearly unknown catering territory. I have eaten at the R&R food truck multiple times and picked up food from the Elma restaurant once. I had no issues with food or service during those encounters, so when I saw they were offering up a Living Social deal for catering, I was excited to use them for an upcoming party. On May 19th I called to place my order for my event being held on May 30th. When I called I was up front about having a Living Social coupon and was told that the owner would send out an email with my invoice within a week. By May 27th, I still hadn’t received an email so I called on the 28th and left a message just to confirm everything was okay. Never got a call back, so I called again on the 29th and spoke with Renee(the owner) who assured me they had my order and not to worry about paying until I picked the food up Saturday at 4:30. I verbally confirmed both the order AND the pickup time, so, imagine my surprise when my husband goes to pick up the food(the very next day) only to be told by the owner’s mother that our order was forgotten about. The mother was not only unapologetic, but made multiple excuses as to why they forgot about it. She even asked my husband if we still wanted the order!!! Umm, yes, this is a catering order — we have hungry people at our house waiting to eat! The epitome of poor customer service happened when she asked«what more do you expect me to do, you already got a discount?» after offering up 3FROZEN cookies for consolation and throwing the coupon back in our faces… How about saying you’re sorry and owning the mistake? Acting as if it is no big deal for your customer to wait while you scramble to put together an order that had been made weeks in advance and confirmed less than 24 hours beforehand, is pretty rotten customer service — she acted as if we inconvenienced her! I feel like I did more than I should have had to confirm our order, and I understand we had a coupon(that YOUR business chose to offer), but we abided by all the terms, and we still paid $ 100 after the $ 30 coupon discount. On one hand the whole situation seemed very shady and underhanded, almost as if they didn’t plan to put anything together unless we actually showed up to get the food, and then were irritated that we did. There was a box of 60 rolls packaged up and waiting, but no meats and sides ready… and after being told it would take at least an hour IF we still want our order, they were able to prepare and package all our meat and sides in 30 minutes? On the other hand, if it wasn’t intentional, then the whole catering operation is beyond disorganized. Thank goodness our order was only for 40 people and not 100+! My reason for writing the review has little to do with the food(pulled pork & homemade slaw), which was as tasty as expected, but to warn others about the poor service. The mother indicated the owner would call me within a few days to follow up on the situation. Not surprisingly, it is almost 2 weeks to the day and NOCALL. If you are planning to use them for catering: caveat emptor. Return your daily deal coupon while you can: the hassle AND possibility of a ruined event due to R&R’s dysfunctional«catering» service and poor communication isn’t worth a $ 30 discount.

I found out what R & R stands for. It’s apparently Rich & Rugged, and it’s named after the owner.(shrug) Similar to J & L, I didn’t rate it as scary-low as some of the Buffalo food trucks, and that is because it wasn’t awful, and it wasn’t TOO overpriced unlike some of the others. If you read any of my other Buffalo area food truck reviews, you know that I think the standard of food truck food here is extremely disappointing bar a few exceptions(Whole Hog, some Rochester ones that come to town sometimes), and worse most of them are freakishly overpriced, but this one is decent. Comparing it to Marty’s Meats of Rochester and Whole Hog of Buffalo, which are both delicious 5s for me(as long as you stick to the regular pulled pork), this place could not possibly score more than a 3, because in comparison the pulled pork is bland, and normal, and decidedly average. I couldn’t tell much of a difference between this truck and the J & L BBQ truck which I tried on the same day. At first I thought they were owned by the same people, but they’re not at all. I found out what R & R stands for. It’s apparently Rigid & Ribbed. By the way, I tried it at the Food Truck Rodeo at Eastern Hills Mall, I think, but it’s also at Larkin Square in summers, and of course they have an actual restaurant location, I do believe. I found out what R & R stands for. It’s apparently Rim*** & Rectitude.

Had bbq brisket and pulled chicken sandwich. To be very honest both were very very disappointing. Not tender. Not flavour full. Just a waste of time and money. Comparable to something out of a microwave.

Echoing Bethany M’s «Underwhelmed» opinion. I had a pulled pork sandwich on a Larkin Tuesday night. The pork was OK — nicely lean but a little chewy, with a sauce from a grocery store bottle — and the cole slaw was excellent — coarse and sweet. But the bun was dry and hard — tasted like they pulled it off the truck dashboard after a week in the sun. And the server working the window was as cold as Lake Erie in January. It’s Larkin on Tuesday night in the summer, for heaven’s sake; time for friendly, relaxed fun. Can’t you at least pretend that you are happy to see the people paying you $ 6, $ 10, $ 12, or more for a sandwich off the back of a truck. I had more satisfying experiences with some of the trucks that were already sold out that night. One could do worse, but one could do a lot better. Choose a truck with a longer line. Lots of wasted potential here.

I ordered a brisket sandwich. There were about 6 people who were already waiting by the truck. It took them a half an hour to get my sandwich out, and I honestly cant tell if this is brisket or pork. It’s small, fairly flavorless, and the bottom of the bun is soaked through with run off from the cole slaw. I ran down to the truck which was parked outside of my building while I was on a break at work, and I’m thinking it would have been more worth my time and money to drive to the Mighty Taco down the street.

The main fare was not bad, but some of the sides were not that great. The guys working the truck are quite awesome though, had a nice chat with one of them during my short wait.

Underwhelmed, would be the sentiment here. We ordered the ½ rack of ribs on a Larkin Tuesday. We should have known by the super short line(compared to the lines of 20+ customers elsewhere) that something was up! The ribs typically come with 2 sides and corn bread. However, the side options were pretty limited for someone who can’t have gluten or beans. This is not what I’m upset about — what I’m upset about is that we had to pay $ 12 or so for 4.5 ribs with NO sides. I feel like if your menu can’t accommodate allergens(again, both common and totally fine), then you shouldn’t charge me for having to turn them down. Seriously. Aggravating. Moving on. We walked away, down 12 full dollars, thinking that the ribs would at least be quite good. They were not — they were dry, bland, and frankly pretty boring. But at least they were still a sticky mess and we had a full 2 napkins to try to clean ourselves up with. Sadly, a disappointment.

First things first… I am a little perplexed. Their menu online has different prices advertised than what was written on their truck sign yesterday when parked at the Buffalo History Museum. A couple things I am pondering… 1.) Has their menu online not been updated with new prices?(this was my first time here) or 2.) Did they raise their prices for last night because half of all proceeds were to benefit and go to the Buffalo History Museum? Hmmm… There were no sandwiches available on the menu last night, only wraps(maybe something else just due to the event/night?). I opted to choose the buffalo chicken with coleslaw wrap and the beef brisket with coleslaw wrap, 2 for $ 6(the website states wraps are $ 2.50 each, which would be 2 for $ 5, so it was a $ 1 more last night). When I received each they didn’t look like they had much«sauce» of any kind on either so I added frank’s hot sauce to the buffalo chicken, and spicy BBQ sauce(both available at the truck, with plenty of other choices) to the beef brisket. I took a couple bites of both and saved the rest for my boyfriend. Both were pretty good! I also ordered a side of the macaroni and cheese. I tried this after receiving it right at the truck, and wasn’t too thrilled. When I got home, I re-heated it and added crushed pepper and it was much better.(The macaroni and cheese was $ 3 last night, but on the menu it says $ 2.75). I hope to try a sandwich next time(if they are on the menu) and hopefully the prices are constant and reflect their menu online.

Now that I have tried more food trucks and more BBQ, I can’t really say that this is my favorite anymore. But it is still delicious and if you see it parked somewhere, step up and order something! I recommend their Buffalo Chicken Wrap or their pulled pork. Their mac and cheese is delicious. Also, what you may not expect is their dessert! I love their peanut-butter brownie and order it every time I visit. Staff is incredibly friendly. Can’t go wrong with this truck!

I forgot my lunch today and decided to look for places nearby with a check-in deal. R & R BBQ Truck came up so off I went to give it a try. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was tasty; a little on the lukewarm side but perhaps it was the coleslaw topping or the chilly air that cooled it down. It wasn’t as saucy as I’d prefer either but I guess when you are eating on the go, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Overall, it was good and I’d get one again. I also had the mac and cheese and was delighted when I opened the cup to find the tiny shells in a creamy cheese sauce with a hint of pepper. Now sadly, the deal of the day was a disappointment; a free dessert. I got the Choc Peanut Butter Bar and while there was a hint of peanut butter, the overwhelming taste was of staleness. Maybe that’s why it was a «deal»?

The home made BBQ sauce is amazing. I also love the fact that they provide different sizes for some of the menu items. I think its great to be able to get a full blown meal or a snack depending on how hungry you are. All in all R&R does a great job. I just wish they had an app where I could make them come to me! ;-)

I can imagine a scenario in which R & R might appeal to a person… you work downtown, you’re starving and desperate for a quick, cheap and unimaginative lunch, the line at the hotdog stand is too long and you already had McDonalds for breakfast. R & R doesn’t serve BBQ. They serve American housewife BBQ. Their pulled pork is fibrous and dry with the sauce mixed in and it tastes like Martha Stewart cooked it in a crock pot, heated it up in a microwave and plopped it on a roll. It’s not quite on the ‘I’d rather eat a spamwich’ level as Suzy Q’s but it’s pretty damn bad. You’d be better off with a McRib sandwich.

I love sneaking out of work at lunch time to hit up this food truck. The food is delicious and the price is right! A sandwich will cost you $ 4.50, a wrap is $ 2.25, or you can get a combo meal with sides and a drink for $ 8.00. I usually go for two wraps because I love both the pulled pork and the brisket. Yes, I get one of each and alternate bites because they’re that good! You can follow R & R on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with their location. If you’re not downtown weekdays for lunch, you might be able to catch them at an event somewhere else in town!

So, last night after the Stacey’s Mom Has Got It Going On Band at the Buffalo Harbor, my posse and I strolled over to Mississippi Street because we heard the food truck scene was hoppin pretty good over there at night. Walked past the arena into cobblestoned glory and there they were — in all their splendor. Your major players in the Buffalo food truck movement were all lined up, right outside Lagerhaus 95. After a few minutes of reading some menus, I settled on R&R and got the beef brisket sangwich.(Again, I’m Italian. Its spelled with a g.) BEST. DECISION. EVER. At least of the night, anyway. The bun was soft, the meat was flavorful but not too saucy and much to my chagrin — there was cole slaw on it. I hate cole slaw, but this was different. It added a really nice cool crunch to it. Totally changed my viewpoint on some cabbage, yo. So, after I got my sangwich, I popped into Lagerhaus for a Stella and asked«what gives, Ben?» I had read in the incredibly biased Buffalo News that the food trucks weren’t supposed to be near an operating restaurant during business hours. Ben confirmed, but said their kitchen closes at 9:30 on Thursdays and that they have an agreement with the food trucks — food trucks get customers, bar gets customers, Nick gets drunk and full. What’s up, Thursday? I mean, really — that’s why I love my city. Restaurant owners everywhere piss and moan that the food trucks are going to steal their customers and then these guys flip it and invite them over to party? Great idea. If you see the yellow and red truck around the Lo, stop. It will be totally well worth it. Well done, R&R.

I went with the Combo for $ 8 — 2 wraps — they are smaller and taco like(1 pulled pork and 1 pulled chicken), a choice of side dish(mac & cheese), cornbread and a soda. What a great price! Plus they have a frequent buyer card — buy 10 combos, get one free. I liked the chicken more than pork. Liked the cole slaw on the sandwich! They were in my neighborhood today for the Parkside Home Tour — it was a great addition!

R&R BBQ Truck is definitely one of my favorites — they simply do two things that sets them apart/makes them special (1) They offer an awesome $ 8 combo meal that comes with a sandwich, a side, cornbread, and a drink. No need to stand there for 10 minutes wondering what to get — just go with the combo and your all set! (2) They have a loyal customer card — buy 9 combos and get the 10thFREE. Basically everytime you buy a combo just get your card signed. How sweet is that?(BTW I’m still working towards that goal!) Other notes –they offer a variety of sides and desserts, my coworkers love them all –they travel to different locations frequently and operates on the weekend too so constantly look out for them via facebook/twitter

I love the stuff these folks create. What many of the brick and mortar restaurants(and let’s face it, city leaders) don’t get is that people are flocking to these folks for the great food at a great price. The combos at the R & R truck are out of this world. I’m a particular fan of the pulled chicken sandwich with cold slaw, the corn bread and the most amazing side you will ever have, Nachos with all the fixings with fritos at their center. Your stomach will thank you, Your soul will offer you a big flat sloppy kiss and at only $ 8, your wallet will breathe a sign of relief.

I’ve seen R & R BBQ perform in multiple scenarios now: at lunchtime on Main Street, as a caterer for one of our office events, and as a food purveyor for a fundraiser(Beerology). Every time, they seemed to win friends and influence people easily with their pulled pork, potato salad, crunchy coleslaw, and s’mores brownies. I have to admit, it was the pulled pork that drew me in – especially since you can get get in wrap form(made with a fresh, tasty tortilla and topped with delicious coleslaw) for just $ 2.50. The pork is just perfect: saucy but not too sloppy, flavorful and sweet, served on the salty side. But the thing that’s kept me coming back besides the addictive pork is Renee, the softspoken and friendly owner of this truck. She loves what she does, she’s easy to work with, and she’s proud of her product. I’d highly recommend working with her if you’ve got an idea in mind for an event, and need someone who can deliver a guaranteed awesome lunch within flexible parameters. Pro tip: if you use the Unilocal mobile app to check in at the truck, you can score a free dessert. Mmm!

I’ve been searching for good BBQ around Buffalo for a while, and being from Florida I’m used to that smokey, succulent, tender BBQ I grew up on. Needless to say my search has just missed the mark on places like: Dave’s BBQ, Suzie Q’s and Brickyard(Lewiston). But finally after stumbling on this food truck my perception of Buffalo BBQ has shifted. For me I judge BBQ on its meat and its sauce, all of the side items are like sprinkles on top of a cupcake, they just make the main feature look pretty. This was food truck stop number 2 for me in Buffalo, and I’m becoming a big fan, so much I had it two days in a row. Both times I had the pulled pork, I’m pretty partial to this BBQ beauty. The pork was delicious, nice and juicy and had a little splice blend that gave it a nice contrast from the smokey flavor. I also enjoyed some of their side including: mac n cheese, baked beans, and fruit salad. One disappointing thing I learned though was that baked beans is only on their winter menu, so you may have to wait a little till the beans make their way back on the menu. I personally do not like vinegar based BBQ sauces, the Carolina style, R and R luckily does not serve that wet sauce, and stick to the ketchup based sauce. I really like their spicy BBQ, I’ve tried their original and sweet which are both great sauces, but the spicy gives the BBQ a little kick but is far from being spicy or too much to handle. Prices are not too bad for this place, $ 8 can get you a BBQ meat of choice, 2 sides, and corn bread. They also have BBQ wraps, that one day I’ll have to try but it’s hard for me to invision BBQ served mexican style, but I dig the change. To find this place go online and follow them on facebook, that way you can find their current location. If you’re in the Buffalo area, and really craving BBQ give R and R BBQ truck a shot, you definitely will not be disappointed.

You like tacos and you like coleslaw on your tacos — find this truck! Friendly staff and great prices! $ 8 will fill you to the brim! I’ve only had one experience in which they’ve run out of items(still need to try the Buffalo Chicken!) — but in all reality that just tells you how fantastic the food is. Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a condiment FREAK — when I first had R & R and saw the slew of sauces parked outside the window I was in heaven. Ofcourse I had to try them all — YUM. Spicy BBQ and Honey Mustard are my favs.

Finally caught these guys after a Bills game on Southwestern. I’m a sucker for coleslaw in my sandwich and that’s exactly what they do w/all theirs. Their beef brisket had good smoky flavor and was better than their pulled pork. Too bad their always in the Southtowns otherwise they’d be healthy competition to Whole Hog.
