When I first ate at this restaurant about a year and a half ago, I was less than enthused. I may have a disturbing habit of comparing food I don’t like to body parts that facilitate excretion — and for the last year and a half I had been telling people that the taste of Pat’s Pizza reminded me of just that. For whatever reason, we decided to give them another chance. We wanted to know the type of cheese featured on an appetizer we ordered, and the server’s elaboration that it was provolone, «just like on our pizza» solved the riddle for me. In my experience, and note this is perhaps more of a personal thing, provolone does not work well as the featured cheese on a pizza. There is some sort of weird aftertaste when provolone and pizza sauce get together in more than modest amounts. I asked for mozzarella rather than provolone — they obliged me, and it was thoroughly decent for me! Truth be told, I was on the fence as to whether to give this pizza 3 stars or 4. What sold me on four stars was that appetizer — the cheese & garlic knots. Holy shit, those were good! I ate them hours ago and I’m still thinking about them. I’m even considering going back to get more tonight before I resume my post-holiday low-carb lifestyle tomorrow. If I don’t, I may start having dreams about eating them off a hooker’s ass.

I’ve been to the best pizza places in and around Chicago, I regularly work in NYC and have tried countless shops, and I live close enough to New Haven to go there whenever I want. My favorite pie is still a double dough pepperoni and mushroom from Pat’s in Ellsworth. The double dough crust is amazing if you like it doughy, the sauce is flavorful without being overpowering, the pepperoni is perfectly charred on the edges, and they always ask if you prefer fresh or canned mushrooms(fresh, please). I suppose if you are looking for perfectly measured slices and beautifully upholstered booths, this is the wrong place, but for great pizza unlike anywhere else, it’s the best.

Contacted the business owner. He was very apologetic and it giving us those two items, on him next time. Very nice to see a business take care of their customers.

Sat us in a room to the side and a giant crowd came in and«shared» the room with us. They were extremely loud and rude. They were throwing things at us so we asked to be moved. They didnt have anywhere to move us but said the manager would go talk to them. Manager never came over. So we ate fast(food was 3 – 4 stars depending on the dish). Chicken parm was not breaded. We ate fast and left. No apologies from manager. Waitress at least sympathized. I guess a big bill trumped our little bill.

This is a poorly managed restaurant and they need to make some changes before they damage the brand. I’ve been to 3 different locations and started at the original Orono store 30 years ago. Service was VERY slow and we waited 20 minutes before the waitress even came over to our table. There were obviously not enough servers to handle the lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. When she did wait on us, there was no apology for the delay, just a brief«Ok, what would you like to order?». To their credit, the pizza was good and that is the only reason I waited. I was hungry and now that I live in another state, I don’t get to Pat’s enough.

I have gone to pat’s many times and been consistently happy. Last week I went and had a ground beef and mushroom pie. Thin crust was yummy and I was very happy with the pie. Always a good standby if you can’t decide where to go. I know the ambiance when I go so I don’t think I’m eating at the Ritz … just good family dining.

Pat’s is a Maine chain and institution,. They also make one of the state’s truly original foods the double dough pizza. It’s not just a thicker crust, it is made using two complete pizza doughs layered and I think it should be made the official state pizza. Now Pat’s isn’t a fancy restaurant or gourmet. It’s a family restaurant that just makes good food. Being a chain Pat’s does vary from location to location, but most are good. Overall I would probably give the chain 3 stars. The Ellsworth Pat’s is the best Pat’s going, a And for that 5 stars! What makes it different? To start with it is in a super convenient spot, easy to get in and out of with plenty of parking. It also has a large seperate section devoted to takeout with its own entrance, and there is plenty of seating in the dining room and bar. What really makes it are the great staff and the delicious food they make. Friendly and efficient are an understatement, everything is just done better than at the other Pat’s. Even on a Friday night, the crowds of eager diners just flowed in and out of the restaurant effortlessly. People enter hungry and leave happy and full. On this particular visit I enjoyed some really good garlic knots, warm and full of chewy goodness. and a 9″ double dough, mushroom, onion, and bacon pizza that made me happy, happy. In fact it was so good I ate the whole thing, despite my intention to have leftovers. Other visits I have had great twice cooked buffalo wings, nice salads and pasta. On top of all this the Ellsworth Pat’s regularly gives back to the community, raising funds for those in need and hosting all sorts of charity events. It’s no wonder why this location and the employees that work there have become the heart of the community.

Most popular pizza/sandwich shop? Ok. Well, how many places are you competing with? 2? Ordered a 9 inch pie with chicken and sun dried tomatoes. The most uneven slice job I have ever encountered. 2 of the 8 slices had neither chicken or toms. Crust was cooked on about ¾ of the pie the last ¼ was undercooked. So, between everything on the pie being uneven, and undercooked it made for a not so stellar dinner. It’s amazing what people will eat. You can be one of the 2 pizza joints around, provide less than quality pie, and still make a living. Makes me think I should open a pizza place.

Probably the most popular pizza and sandwich spot in Ellsworth. Pat’s pizza is locally famous and the sandwiches are awesome. Cold beer and a full bar too. We eat here 2 – 3 times a week.

Pizza was fantastic and toppings were super fresh. Even my extremely picky husband liked it! Seating in the dining room was very comfortable. Prices were reasonable. Only 4 stars because the waitress brought our garlic bread with our meal which was annoying. PB&J on the kids meal was devoured by my son!

This place was not so great. I have been to many, many pizza places and had some great pizza but this ain’t it! My friends got the taco pizza which is made with a double crust. The crust was not cooked all the way through and they were eating raw dough. We also ordered a margarita pizza which was dripping in grease. The crust is bland with no flavor. Service people were excellent and fast but won’t eat here again. Uncooked, greasy pizza doesn’t do it for me.

As I visited the Bar Harbor area, we realized that Pat’s Pizza has a few different locations, including Bar Harbor. We went to this particular Pat’s Pizza three different times in 2 days. They have a nice deck outside if weather is permitting. Very friendly greeting from a gentleman(Manager?) as we walked in and that was a nice welcoming. The first two visits, we had good service from the waitresses in the bar area. On the 3rd visit, which was around 3 – 4 pm on a Sunday, the bartender lady only cared about the locals, which was very obvious. She just stood beside one local guest, hanging out with him the entire time we were there and we could hardly get a drink or a water. The pizza that I custom ordered was served hot and exactly as I requested and was one of my favorite pizzas that I have ever had. They had 3 different sizes of pizzas(as I recall) and the small was a 9″ and it was a great crust and fresh veggies. They had the best corn chowder that I have ever had. Everything that we ate here was delicious. A guy next to us ordered spaghetti and it looked horrid. He said it was cold, very very little sauce and just a small blob of cheese in the middle. It looked awful. Large parking lot. We will definitely visit again if we make it back to Maine. I will order pizza all day long here.

Great hand tossed thin crust pizza, but they are a restaurant with waaay more tastey menu items then pizza! They have amazing sandwiches(love the Dagwood, it’s my favorite) and great Italian options. I also love their calzones. thin crust with chunky sauce on the side. Try the spinach, feta and fresh mushroom… YUM! Another great option is their salads. They are HUGE… I try to eat low carb, so the Cindy’s Salad which has lots of meats, cheese and low carb veggies. Ask for it «chopped» if you really want the flavor to mesh together. I enjoy Pats for dinner, but it is my regular GOTO for lunch. Enjoy!

Hello 70’s!!! That’s how I felt walking into this Pat’s Pizza. Brown vinyl booths, dark wood, old gray rug with stains? Yep, they’ve got that. It was a cold, raw day and a glass of red wine sounded good. Wine is not their shining point here. I had a choice of a chianti or a merlot. I went with the merlot. It was passable, but barely. The pours were very generous though. We started with the boneless buffalo tenders. For the love of God, don’t order these. They were salty, soggy, very breaded and black on the bottom. The blue cheese dressing was really good though. In my head I was getting ready to write a one or two star review and then the pizza came. The pizza was a pleasant surprise. We wanted to try both a white and a red pizza, so we ordered a small, thin crust Partenopia, which had fresh tomato, chicken garlic, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts and provolone cheese and made our own large thin crust pizza with red sauce, sausage, roasted red pepper and garlic. They were surprisingly tasty with a crispy thin crust. I’ve never really had a crust like that before. While it wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had, I could see myself ordering takeout if I lived in the area. We’ve got a fair amount left over for another day. If you are visiting the area and have a pizza craving this is a decent option, but I would recommend takeout.

I grew up in Orono. Anyone who claims Ellsworth Pat’s FOOD is any different has something wrong with them. Obviously it lacks the class and pomp of the original, but in a blind taste test, I doubt a Farnsworth family member could tell the difference. WIth that being said, their pizza(at either locale) is mediocre at best. Greasy, thin and sure to cause heartburn. Is it bad? NO! But I can say, with few exceptions, that most pizza anywhere isn’t bad. It’s cheap pizza with a family atmosphere and nice memories. I’ll stop in here everytime I’m in Maine, for the rest of my life, but it’s not because the food is particularly great. It’s also hard to find this style of pizza elsewhere in the country. It’s good, a few times a year. Despite my so-so review, I’d encourage you to give it a try, it’s a Maine tradition. Who knows, maybe you like thin grease wafers, I know it can hit the spot sometimes with me.

The Caesar salad was very nice, pizza was great(and good cold the next day too), and service was excellent. Great place to eat if staying in Ellsworth or coming to or from Acadia National Park/Bar Harbour.
