Wow… just…wow.
I made sure they did livestock fencing before I called Tuesday. I said I had a broken 6 inch post beside the gate that needed to be fixed, (old one removed, concrete dug out, new post, new concrete, re-​attach fencing.) He said he would come Saturday morning, I said I had the post, he said he would bring the rest. I said I also have some repair on a chain link fence, repair on ornamental fence at drive entry that a car hit (insurance would pay) and fencing and gates for 7 acres of pasture that I wanted quotes on.
11:00 Saturday I called to see when (if) he was coming since the morning had passed and he hadn’t called. He was saying something about coming next week when I reminded him we had an appointment. «Oh, yes, I have it here 1250… I’m nearby and can come when I finish.
Drives up and doesn’t introduce himself, just says «What do you want to do here?» Doesn’t he know? I show him the post. He says he doesn’t have any of the materials to fix it with. … ok… well let me show you the pasture job. I walk across the bridge and out 20 feet talking about the job, I look back to see he stopped walking halfway across the bridge. I quit talking about it and went back to the truck with him.
He gets in his truck and says «If I am in the area I can come fix the post some time» I said I was really expecting that to be done today. «Well I don’t have the materials» I asked «You don’t even want to give a quote on the pasture?» HE STARTS DRIVING WHILE I AM TALKING TO HIM and says «Well, if you are serious about doing that job I could work up a quote (without measuring anything).
Unbelievably rude and unprofessional. I am still just stunned. If fixing a post was too small of a job he should have told me that up front. It’s amazing he can run a business like this.

I saw that the business owner left a reply to my review. I can’t understand how fixing my fences and installing new fences could be a disaster. What does he think I’ll do, come out with wire cutters in the night? I do understand being busy and not wanting to take on every project. My account is exactly as it happened except that I left out that he asked what kind of fencing I wanted in the big pasture. He NEVER said «no, I am not interested in your project, please find someone else» as he states in his review. That is what was so weird about it. He was driving away saying he would come out sometime and give a quote on the pasture if I was really interested.
So, I think the guy really does good work and is well sought after. In consideration of the other negative review I think it would be a good idea to ask up front and directly «Are you interested in doing this job?» Hopefully he would honestly reply. That would save everyone, including him a lot of trouble and time wasted.
By the way, I did get a quote on the job from another company. It is $ 6700 plus $ 600 for the one someone’s auto insurance will pay for. It may even be a bit more because it was pouring rain when the guy was gathering info for his quote and I’m not sure he factored in all the chain link repair. The point is, this wasn’t a small job that wouldn’t be worth someone’s time.
