Choi Gaeul Hair Salon

Had a hair appointment on Sunday, ¹¹⁄₂₉ at 2pm. Drove forty minutes and found out it was closed — no call to cancel or reschedule or anything. Extremely unprofessional.

I got my eyebrows tatooed here a couple weeks ago, and I am very pleased with the outcome. I would definitely recommend!

Last weekend, my cousin got married in a small church in Ellicott City, Maryland. Somehow, from her roost in L.A., my mom managed to find a Korean hair salon within a mile of the wedding. She even got the name of a hairdresser, and made an appointment with Gina for 10 o’clock.
Choi Gaeul was a nice salon, clean and pretty with a friendly staff. There was enough room to serve several customers at once, as well as a couch with a coffee table covered in magazines, in case of a wait. My mom and I were the only customers this Saturday morning, and we were helped without delay. We both got our hair washed and styled, and I thought both of our heads turned out looking rather nice. I also got my eyebrows done, which was a huge relief. I hadn’t groomed them in a few months and they were looking gnarly. Gina trimmed and plucked and penciled them in, and she did a better job than I could ever do on my own.
The styling cost $ 80 for the two of us, with the eyebrows thrown in for free. I don’t have much of a basis for comparison, but my mom thought this was a fair price. A regular haircut was listed at $ 25, which isn’t bad.
My only complaint is that whatever product got put in my hair smelled vaguely bad even after a shower. It was effective stuff, but I didn’t like how it lingered. Otherwise, I’d recommend Choi Gaeul to the denizens of Ellicott City. It’s a Korean hair salon that seems to know what it’s doing.
