Oyama Sushi & Steakhouse

First time to this place after a few recommendations — and because they took reservations for our group after CWU’s graduation. It was a lot of fun, good food and a great staff.
We enjoyed the cooking and entertainment of Calvin. The hibachi food was very good and a couple in our group ordered dishes from the kitchen. Everyone cleaned their plates and enjoyed our time.
The prices are very reasonable too. I’ve paid twice this much for «the same» from other Japanese steakhouses.

Oyama is the only place that i will go to for sushi in Ellensburg.

The food was pretty good but I have had better food. I got the dumpling soup which was good but once you have din Thai fung nothing compares. And I also had the fried dumplings which were good also. What drove down my rating was the amount of time we had to wait to receive our bills back. The lady at the desk was extremely slow at what she did

On of my favorite places to go in Ellensburg! The service is great and the food is always delicious!

I definitely wasn’t expecting great sushi in good old Ellensburg, but I was pleasantly surprised. This place is so delish, I’m back on the west side now (over 100 miles away from Oyama) and I’m actually sad about it.

Even though I have claimed I would never eat here again, I always cave and come back. The fried rice is just too good. As for everything else, it’s just mediocre quality. I prefer my steak rare and it’s usually served still cold, I believe this is because the chef takes the steaks directly from the refrigerator leaving the center still cold unless you prefer your steak well done. The service is always generally not good from the wait staff. The teppanyaki chef, Calvin, is decent and friendly. I feel bad for him that he’s the only hibachi chef there.

In our family, we call Oyama’s «oh-yummy’s»! The food is delicious, the people are extremely friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. What’s not to love?!
As soon as you walk in the door, you are greeted by the friendly staff, and you are given a choice of a table, booth, sitting at the teppanyaki bar, or sitting in front of the sushi bar. They also have a private room that you can make prior arrangements for, for parties or other functions. The establishment is quite large, so generally you will be seated very quickly.
The menu is large and quite comprehensive. If you sit at the teppanyaki bar, you will get quite the show — a humorous demonstration of dazzling cooking skills, and you get to watch your meal be cooked before your eyes. Be sure to ask for the fried rather than white rice, because its preparation is a large part of the show, and it is just delicious! If you sit at a booth or table, you don’t get the show, but you still get the amazing food.
We have concluded that Oyama’s serves the best steak in Ellensburg. If sushi is your thing, you will find that Oyama’s meets or surpasses just about any restaurant in the greater-​Seattle area. If sushi isn’t your thing, you won’t be disappointed with all of the steak, chicken, and seafood options on their menu, including Udon and Soba noodle dishes, tempura and katsu, Hibachi, and their miso and dumpling soups.

Sushi in ellensburg can be a concerning thing, BUT Oyama does it right. After living in both Seattle and San Francisco I have a bit of a standard for sushi and Oyama fits the bill. Plus their 1 – 5 «any rolls» deal is awesome! Just fresh fish and great sushi chefs.

I have eaten dinner there multiple times and I’ve enjoyed the majority of my meals, with the exception of their soba noodle soup, it was great but the broth was bland, it had no flavor at all and the noodles was a bit over cooked.

I really enjoyed their rolls. There is a page and a half full of choices for different rolls. They are quite creative and don’t skim on qty. The staff is also very friendly. Blessing in Ellensburg. Highly recommended for locals and those passing by.

lets get started with an interior. Inside looked fully opened space that when I entered in I can pretty much see every table, but it is quite too dark, but it is because of an open space, I can see Hibachi section.
Now, lets talking abou the service, this I would rate at 2 starts because most of the time all servers not friendly at all, when they came to take an order they were kinda rush and not giving a time for customer to look through the menu. When I asked a server a detail on specifically dishes, it seen to me that he or she did not menu well…
A waiting time for the food to come out, I am very need to rate this 1 start because it took so long just to cook two dishes that I ordered (I do understand that there are other tables as well but there were not that many many tables, I would say it was like only 3 0r 4 tables only) and if happened to sit down at the sushi bar, the server only brought out the food, but did not bring the utensil and how do I suppose to eat? I meant, c’on, no common sense at all?
At this time, I will rate this place 2 stars for now and I will give this place another chance and lets see if they will make any improvement… and I am reall hope that they will read the review.

I guess you need to travel to a city in the middle of Washington in order to get real authentic Japanese food !
We were traveling to Ellensburg for an event from a big city in California. We saw some Unilocal reviews and needed to check this place out. It is the real deal. The sushi was great, creative, fresh and great combos. Everything from the miso soup, to the tea, to the ambiance. I have eaten at some real authentic Japanese places all around North America and this place can compete!

Oyama quality, consistency and great services is what brings us back. We had Soba noodles (amazing), scorpion rolls (amazing) and sashimi (yummy!). I have never been disappointed and services is on the spot even when the place is busy. A must see when dropping by eburg!

I was pleasantly surprised that my husband found this gem of a restaurant. The restaurant has teppanyaki grills, a sushi bar, and regular tables and booths. The service is gracious and kind.
We both ordered bento boxes of chicken katsu, tempura shrimp, and spicy tuna rolls. The portions are generous, without being too overwhelming. The flavors and textures were spot on. It’s a fairly standard formula — salad with an addictive ginger dressing, comforting miso soup, and entrée, but it works.

Food is awesome!!! Prices are great!
A bit loud and always busy but that comes with a place that has great food right? My husband loves it and he is pretty picky when it comes to eating out.

Never disappointed. Sat at the sushi bar and watched our plates being made by master creater Andy. The fresh orange slices paired great with the salmon. Can’t wait until next time.

This place. .. First time to experience such deliciousness. We (my boyfriend and I) were immediately impressed by the hilarious and very helpful waiter. Leading on to a delicious hibachi dinner and SUSHI. WOW! we enjoyed the Volcano Roll and would get it again, but very excited to try new tasty creations. :)
We are also looking forward to bringing in a group to enjoy the Hibachi show — which is a blast.

Food was excellent, so was the service.
They really went the extra mile, at the end of the meal they actually box your leftovers for you instead of just handing you a box.
