I stayed at the Super 8 in Elkins, Room 107. Super 8 was my last choice of hotels, all of the other 3&4 star rated hotels were booked. Here is my experience at Super 8 @ Elkins. I arrived early, the staff was friendly and let me check in early. I was told the place was a Pet Free and Smoke free place since February 1st2015. I headed to room 107 to do an inspection before unloading the car. I was not pleased with the condition of the hallway carpet. It looked worn and in need of replacing. Got to the room, carpet and bathroom tile were upgraded. Good sign! Tried looking at the mattresses to do a bedbug inspection and they were fully enclosed. Thinking to myself, mattress enclosures, I’m safe from bedbugs. I unloaded the car, brought in my Lysol wipes, wiped down the drawers, sink & toilet. As I was sitting up the room for my weekend stay I heard a couple workers outside. New mattresses were being brought in. He mentioned to the other worker they aren’t allowed to use the same truck for removing the old mattresses. He said«Think about it, would you want to use the same truck for delivering the new mattress?» I did another inspection for bedbugs and couldn’t find any bugs. The room was so dark and the lights weren’t bright at all.(If you want a dark room, this is the place for you.) I did use the light on my cell phone to check the beds. Came up empty again, no bugs. Weather was good, no need to run the heater or air conditioner. So I’m not sure what condition they were in. Friday night, I settled in to watch some television, no high definition TV, not a problem for me. Bed was comfortable. Saturday morning I had a welt on my hip. I thought it may have been a spider bite. Didn’t think anything about it. On the way to the bathroom, I felt the carpet strip nails that hold the carpet down next to the foyer tile. Ouch! After that, I continued to wear my shoes. Saturday morning, I went to take a shower, the nozzle was so tight I had to use both hands to turn it on. After my shower, I couldn’t get the faucet to stop dripping. The sink and toilet were so low it felt like I was in an elementary school bathroom. Found mold where the tub and shower wall came together. They should spray some Tilex there and it’ll probably go away. Sunday morning I woke up to several bug bites. Still no sight of bugs. The lights are so dim unless you have a high power flashlight you’re not going to see the bugs. I believe the mattresses were replaced and those blood sucking insects are still taking up residence at the Super 8 @ Elkins. Don’t stay here, not worth the $ 99 per night and to come home with bug bites!

I’ve stayed here before. I was told my room #220 had recently been renovated. I don’t know if all the rooms were redone but mine was. Well the new tile in the bathroom was impressive, new paint in bathroom and the carpet looked new but needed shampooing. But the ceiling exhaust fan was falling out of the bathroom ceiling and the mirror in the bed area was broken with clear tape over the broken pieces. So the renovations were limited but you have to start somewhere.

Not the end of the world, but it’s showing its age. The room itself is better than the building appearance from the outside. There are better hotels in the area to be had.

Did I have a peaceful night? Yes. Did I have a nice, hot shower in the morning? Yes. Did the room appear clean? Yes. Was staff friendly? Yes. If you are looking for a place to put your head into a pillow after a long day, this will do. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s location is good(just outside downtown and close to many restaurants and other establishments). Negatives: 1. The free breakfast is nothing to write home about. 2. Chemical smell/cigarette odor evident in hallways. 3. Décor in common areas and in my particular room were worn and need of replacing/updating. 4. Tried to shut curtain in room. Curtain came right off the curtain rod. The motel definitely shows signs of constant use.

For the price, I found this Super 8 to be alright. It isn’t the Taj Mahal, could really use a pool and a hot tub. But the rooms were clean and quiet, relatively new furnishings. The staff was very friendly. Wifi is faster the closer you get to the lobby, so ask for a low numbered room. My room had a mini fridge, microwave, safe, and a decent TV with lots of channels. The toilet was a slow flusher, and the water pressure was low. Not the worst I’ve stayed at, perfectly adequate and well worth the price. 4 stars.

I’m glad to say we had a much better experience here than Janet F. We’d been camping across eastern West Virginia and were enjoying the beauty of Dolly Sods when came the great deluge of 2012. In my 59+ years, I cannot remember seeing that much rain come down so quickly. We’d broken camp in Backwater Falls and were heading to Seneca Rocks when it all hit, and so a motel seemed like a pretty good idea. We braved some crazy weather as we drove into Elkins, and just happened upon this Super 8. We found staff that was helpful and that liked to chat. Our room was clean; there was a small refrigerator and a microwave beside the normal coffee pot, and a small safe as well. The TV boasted HBO and 50+ stations, although we never turned it on so I couldn’t vouch for that. The bathroom was clean and properly stocked, and had a hair dryer as well. And yes, our bed was comfortable. The water pressure was fine and certainly hot enough. The continental breakfast included waffles, and for those so inclined, biscuits and gravy as well. Oh, and even though our room faced the highway, road noise was never an issue. All in all, it was a pleasant stay, and relatively inexpensive. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. We were looking for a place to stay relatively close to the Cass Scenic Railway State Park and this was the only place with vacancy that weekend. The problems began when they didn’t answer their phones. We got lost trying to locate the hotel and no one at the hotel would answer the phone – it was about 6 or 7pm at this time and NOTHING. When we got to the hotel I mentioned that I’d tried calling and they seemed to be entirely disinterested in my frustration. The room was clean and that was about the only saving grace. The beds were HARD. They were not firm but HARD. The mattresses were also covered in plastic. So frequent movement was necessary to stay even slightly comfortable but every slight movement made a loud crinkling sound. On the list of top 10 worst nights of sleep in my life, this would rank high. When we checked out in the morning I mentioned my complaints at the front desk and they really just couldn’t care less if they’d tried. I paid up and left. I know I will never stay there again. Ever. Sleeping in the back seat of my Cavalier would’ve been more pleasant.
