Unfortunately, Bill’s isn’t what I remembered from my childhood home on the south side of Elkhart. I don’t know if there’s been a change in the way Bill’s does things, or if it was just nostalgia kicking up their reputation, but it is no longer an enjoyable experience. I find the building charming. You order from inside a tight, maybe 10 sq ft room. The crew behind the counter shoot the shit with each other and blare classic rock. It’s quite entertaining. The prices? Not so charming. I paid $ 26 for two rib tip meals. It just doesn’t feel like a neighborhood BBQ spot at that price, and the food doesn’t do the price any favors, either. The meat was chewy, the fries dry and tasteless, and the sauce just above average – better for dipping fries than covering ribs. I wouldn’t recommend.
