AMAZINGFOOD! Great atmosphere. Live music on Saturdays! Nice people! And I had the HOTTEST waiter. He was Hispanic looking with a subtle beard and soft eyes… To die for.

What a lovely local place in Elk Grove, land of the chain restaurants. Went on a Wednesday night and loved the atmosphere. We have a 2-year-old and they were very sweet and accommodating. However, I wouldn’t go with the little one on a Friday or Saturday night. We tried the tostones(eh), baked chorizo(pretty good), the paella(fantastic!) and the whiskey bread pudding for dessert(trust me, save room for dessert, it was amazing). Service was spot on. While the food was maybe a bit hit or miss, the good far outweighed the«eh» and I can appreciate the effort. We need places like this to be successful in EG so we’ll definitely be back!

Here’s what I can tell you about this place so far — the jalapeño infused rum mojito was PHEONOMENAL… I wanted to cry silent tears of joy as I thanked the cocktail gods for giving someone the brilliant idea that was this drink. The quesobde cabra was very tasty, I would order this everytime, and the flatbread pizzas were also very good. We tried the americana and the españa pizza… Loved them both. They have happy hour from 4 – 6 and all day on Sunday’s. Service was great, even though we came in during some kind of work mixer that was going on unexpectedly for the staff(there were maybe two servers working, and they were super busy). Our server was constantly checking on us and was very helpful with the menu. I can’t wait to come back and try some of their entrees!

First time there was tonight. Great spot in Elk Grove that has an even better vibe. I ate the Cubano sandwich which was life changing. For an appetizer, I ordered the potatoes which were also equally as good. Downside is that the menu on their website is outdated. There were many items that were listed there which were not available when I went there tonight. Attention to detail is important and that is why I gave them 4⁄5 stars.

What a great gem in old town Elk Grove! This place is so unexpected and in a great way! My husband and I arrived here on a Saturday night with some friends. We walked in and felt like we had stepped into a Spanish restaurant in Miami or something. The décor made us feel like we weren’t even in Elk Grove anymore. Our waiter was friendly and prompt with greeting us. We ordered some beers and sangria. The be sangria was strong! Yum. We ordered the cubano, fish tacos, some steak salad and a steak with black beans and rice. We also ordered hummus and pita. Everything was amazing! The pita was the best I’ve ever had! I will be back. Only reason they got 4⁄5 stars is because we waited over an hour for our food and I was starving!

What would I do without Unilocal? Not have the privilege of dinning at great places like Lola’s Lounge, that’s what! :) This past Friday I decided to try something new, on a typical Friday or Saturday night. I’ll usually dine out at one of a handful of places in Elk Grove, just because they’re close while I also enjoy their food. But tonight was different, I guess the other places have gotten a bit typical. So I looked at the places I’ve had bookmarked and gave Lola’s a try. We arrived around 8:30, and the restaurant was lively but not packed. After walking in we were promptly seated in the main seating area to right. We looked over our menu for a bit trying to get a sense of the food, and our server was there to great us. A very friendly guy who gave us his, to which we actually didn’t hear, and he quizzed us before he left. I straight up told him I don’t remember” and apologized. He joked and said it was the same as a famous basketball player, and I replied«Jordan?» and Jordan it was. I should have messed with and been like Hakeem(Olajuwon) or Larry(Bryd) as our joking went back and forth for the remainder of our night. We got a good idea of what we were going to order, and Jordan gave us his recommendations. Everything we actually planned to order he ended up recommending as well. We started with drinks and an appetizer. My girlfriend got a white Sangria, and I order a ‘well’ drink(Tequila & pineapple juice). Lola’s has a Unilocal check in deal where you get $ 2 off all well drinks. So my drink which is normally $ 5, was instead $ 3 **WINNING**. And for our appetizer we ordered the baked chorizo… and it was amazing! I didn’t notice that there were onions in it, a lot of onions, which I’m not a fan of. But that’s on me, and with removing them the baked chorizo was still so delicious. For our main course my girlfriend got the Enchiladas(Slow braised chicken and green sauce enchiladas covered with red sauce) and I got the Gaucho Solomillo(Grilled top sirloin, bacon and black bean succotash with a balsamic black pepper glaze). The Enchillads were ok according to my girlfriend, not bad, but she was a little dissapointed based on what she’s grown up having, or has had in other restaurants. The Gaucho Solomillo was good, not like anything I’ve had before because of the balsamic pepper glaze. succotash I’ve never had before either, and didn’t even know what it was until tonight. It has a nice little spice to it, and was pretty good. After our meals and banter with Jordan he convinced to get the Jack Daniel’s bread pudding as our dessert to finish of the night. I didn’t know what to expect with that either since you here Jack Daniel’s and think of something that puts hair on your chest! Lol But it wasn’t anything like, and was actually really good. Jordan also brought us each a small glass of complimentary port wine to pair with our dessert. The wine however had a smell of bad decisions from my past and I just couldn’t get myself to drink it. I did take a sip, and I will say and it didn’t taste as strong or like I expected it to. For me the bread pudding was just fine without it. OVERALL: Great dinning experience at a new establishment, pair with good food and great service. I’d definitely come here again, especially for that baked chorizo. That right there is a knock out of the park!

3 stars be uses some things were good while others just eh. Had a few tapas… started with the queso de cabra, the cheese was great but the bread was stale. Then ordered the asparagus?, tostones(plantains), patatas(potatoes) and gambas(shrimp on wonton) the gambas was the best thing we had. Full of flavor, unfortunately everything else was mediocre. For drinks we ordered: pink Linen, easy on the eyes & a caipirinha. The drinks were on point and our waiter was helpful and very nice. I would go back for drinks but not so much for the food

Came here during happy hour after work because I was attending a paint night afterwards nearby and this place happened to be the closest restaurant I could find. Once I arrived, I noticed how cute this place was. There were seats outside in the front, as well as a patio in the back when you get inside. But what really caught my attention was their infused rum! The jalapeño and pineapple mojito caught my eye and once I tried it, it was spicy, sweet, and AMAZING! Its seriously the best mojito I have had in Sacramento. The coworkers and I ordered a few appetizers: asparagus and the chorizo flat bread. The flat bread was amazing. The asparagus could have been cooked a little bit more, as it seemed too raw for me. Once our main courses came, everyone’s looked so good. I had the steak salad… Also amazing! Steak was cooked perfectly(medium well) and it paired just right with the salad and balsamic vinaigrette. I would definitely come here again. Out waitress was also very kind and attentive. This place is a must try in old town Elk Grove!

This place is nice, I have watched this building evolve in the last 15 years from several different types of eateries and watering holes. Lola’s by far has done the best job with décor and ambiance. The evening I went in it was raining and so I was bummed out I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the patio area, but I will save that for my next visit. I will start with saying I am a huge fan of Moscow Mules, so of course I had to try their spin on it which is the America Mule, and unfortunately it kind of strays too far away from a Moscow Mule for me. My drink came shaken with lime juice, Tito’s, and ginger beer, but I was expecting something on the rocks with fresh lime. When the drink arrived I was optimistic, but it was too martini-esque for my liking. My favorite item off the menu was the PATATATATATAS! with extra aioli on the side if it wasn’t for this item I would have left highly disappointed. The Mariachi was okay, the tres queso was okay, the hamburguesa was okay. Lastly Erik our server did a great job making sure we had everything we needed, and was eager to let us sample beers if we were unsure about ordering. Overall decent place for drinks and appetizers!

So, what does one do with themselves when they know they will be in the Sacto area? I don’t know about you, but I threw out an invite for a few Sacto Elites to meet me here at Lola’s for an UUUYE. I arrived just as the doors opened and made my way inside to what appeared to be an historic building from the outside. As my eyes dilated to the dimmer interior light, I scanned the room. Just as my eyes returned to normalcy, I saw Lucy M. sitting at the bar enjoying a glass of wine. And since the social code of chivalry teaches us(gentleman) to never let a lady drink alone, I had to join her with a wine for myself. While chatting it up with Lucy, another friend who lives in the area arrived. And after introductions, we were ready to order some food(s). I left it to Lucy to hook it up since she was the resident expert. As she ordered, I did my usual stroll around Lola’s. To my surprise, Lola’s interior is a lot bigger than it appears from outside. I saw at least two separate dinning rooms plus, they have a really nice patio area for those hot summer valley days and nights. As the food arrived at our table, myself and Lucy weren’t shy about reaching over one another to sample the goods. As each item hit our mouths, nothing and no one inside Lola’s was louder than mine and Lucy’s uums and awes. Of course, Lucy’s uums were louder than my awes. But she’ll tell you different. The sample platters Lucy order were dynamite. I’m not going to go into details and repeat what Lucy has already written about but I will say. When it comes to knowing good food and what works well with a decent Cabernet, Lucy M. knows her stuff. Lucy M. and Mark N., thanks for coming out and thanks for the memories. You guys rock!

We decided on checking out the Happy Hour menu here. We have been here for dinner several times but had a late lunch today so «small plates’ would be great! There were a few people at 5pm and nice and quiet which is the opposite of most of the times we have been here before. We opted to seat ourselves in the main dining room instead of the bar since there were others doing the same. We perused the menu and decided on the Pozole soup, a concoction of Shredded chicken, hominy, sofrito, onions, and bell peppers. It was very tasty, and not spicy, just right. Also ordered the Hummus which was served with pita triangles… also very good! A crowd favorite is the Baked Chorizo which is a clump of queso fresco, dry chorizo, and green chile served on top of soft French bread halves… again very good. The Caesar salad was very good, crisp, and very tasty. I could have used a little more Caesar dressing which would have made it perfect. They open between 4pm and 9pm on Weeknights so they are not open for lunch at all. Happy Hour is from 4pm to 6pm and the drink prices are very reasonable. I ordered a House red wine which happened to be a Cabernet and it was excellent. A nice place to dine for dinner or place to enjoy happy hour prices and great small plates… Situated in Old Town Elk Grove, parking is difficult but you may just luck out and find a space right on the boulevard.

4.5 stars. If you have taste buds and are in Elk Grove, you should go. My husband and I went on a Saturday night. It was packed and there was live music, very loud, but the music was great and so we didn’t mind. The food was superb. If you’re accustomed to tapas you know that it does take quite a few to fill you up and serving sizes are modest, but we enjoyed sharing the goat cheese appetizer, the empanadas, the mini hambuerguesas, and the baked chorizo crostini. Flavors were all fabulous. My only suggestion would be that more sauce was needed instead of the artistic smear on the plate that wasn’t nearly enough. Finally, the horchata cheesecake was one of the best desserts I’ve had recently. Smooth, creamy filling, dulce de leche sauce, and an exquisite crust(which I have no idea how they made, but it was to die for!). That one is a must order.

We decided to give this place a try since it was closer and had decent reviews. As we walked in it was very festively decorated with Halloween decorations! They went ALLOUT! I would have taken pics but I didn’t want to disrespect the people having dinner. The restaurant seem to be a popular spot filled with people enjoying their evening. There was also a group of twenty celebrating. We did not have reservations but they were able to sit us down right away. The tables seem small and close together. We were greeted and were told she’d be right back. She came back and took our drink order. Another couple came and sat at the next table over. They received their drinks and we were still waiting. Hmmm… getting a bad vibe. No worries… we decided to stay and order dinner. I ordered the Brazilian Churrasco Steak and I cannot remember the name of the dish that my better half ordered. I was told we were ordering the menu popular by many. Maybe they were too busy or short staffed but our food was ok. Maybe it was a fluke or off night. My steak was too dry and even the«cream» corn was not as creamy. More like melted butter. Sorry! I REALLY wanted to enjoy my dinner. The tables were too close. Every time the lady next to us got up her butt rubbed on our table. Sorry. That was not our idea of a romantic date night! Our waitress was hard working. The entire wait staff seemed to be running! Lol. Overall…maybe we should have came out on a slower evening. The place is old but with great character! They seemed to have worked very hard to make this place home and festive! Kudos for that…

Thursday night live music, hubby calling for to go order, phone was busy, so he keep calling and someone finally pick up and hang up on him, he call back again and he barely can hear anything except the music. When we pick up our order, we are using gift certificate to pay and Michelle the server said you can’t use more then one gift certificate, according the owner, hubby ask her to ask the owner, since there is nothing that is state on the gift certificate, and the owner said ok, but the tax can’t be paid with gift certificate. I don’t know those kind of rules was apply to gift certificate? We used gift certificate at other restaurants and there is no husle and bustle like Lola’s. Our order are: Garlic mussels for me has a lot of flavor, hubby said they put too much garlic in it and the container for it spilled a lot of the broth out and the mussel on top are dry, including the garlic bread for dipping to the broth are dry. Enchiladas it is mediocre, small portion for hubby. Pollo rostisado according daughter taste like Costco chicken and there are some feather still on the skin, yuck. For 1st timer this whole thing are not a good experience for us :(

After seeing pictures of the food, I wanted to come here. The place is located in Old Town Elk Grove. There is a small outdoor patio at the front and a bar inside with televisions. If you want to listen to live music, then go on a Thursday. My friend and I started with the grilled asparagus. I liked the aioli that accompanied it. For my entrée, I had the Brazilian churrasco steak with cilantro rice and cream corn salsa. I asked for it medium rare, but it came out medium well. While it had good flavor, the meat was chewy. The rice was wet. My friend had the bocadillo(Cuban pork sandwich) with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was tasty and I liked the grilled bread. The fries were a bit burnt. We both cleaned off our plates though. We even had room for dessert. She had the boca negra(flourless chocolate burbon cake with chocolate ganache). It was too rich for me. I had the horchata cheesecake with blueberry reduction. The top was sprinkled with cinnamon. I liked it, but could do without the blueberry reduction. The food wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed everything I tried overall.

I had the opportunity to come to Lola’s Lounge for a Unilocal UYE, so I jumped at the chance to try this awesome new place. It’s easy to find off the freeway(though it’s a little trek from it) and parking can be a little bit of a challenge, but once you’re there it’s all worth it! They have a great patio out front with a bunch of seating, a bar with plenty of chairs, and the restaurant inside is a good size as well. Service was great. Our servers were very friendly and nice and attentive. No one was ever left wanting or looking for our server. They were always there and very fast in getting our food out which is always appreciated when coming right from work. I had the opportunity to try their Chips and Hummus Appetizer which I thought was my favorite thing out of everything I had. The hummus was fresh and so were the chips. What more could you ask for? The chip to dip ratio was a little off, but nothing to complain about because instead of having not enough dip(which is usually the case!) we had too much. I also tried their Asparagus Appetizer which also had hummus and it was great! Everything was seasoned perfectly and the asparagus was cooked to perfection. It wasn’t over or under done which sometimes it can be. Great flavor too! Lastly I tried one of their Cheese Pizzas which was very tasty! The crust was nice and thin, and it was cooked correctly because it wasn’t soggy. The portion size was good, and the flavors were on point. Yum! I think I would get everything I got to eat the first time, again when I come back! There are plenty of options for Vegetarians on their smaller menu(so I didn’t have a hard time finding something to eat) and the staff was super accommodating. Thank you to Lola’s for a great evening! A much needed new neighborhood gem in Elk Grove.

I came to Lola’s lounge for second time on Thursday after work with a couple of friends because the first time was such an excellent experience. The ambience is so classy with the burgundy drapes and exposed brick walls. Apparently the restaurant owner has completely renovated what was once a brewery with dark walls. The main dining area is separated from the bar by a wall that has large cutouts which gives this room an open feel and keeps you indiscreetly connected to the bar area. The décor is classy but not in an uptight kinda way. There are little white lights which adorn the walls, beautiful potted plans and copper panel ceiling. The deep burgundy, and rich dark wood with black trim gives this place a sexy gothic feel. The wine and beer list is excellent and the happy hour prices are quite economical. I had a refreshing Prosecco split since it was so warm outside. And I was delightfully surprised to find out that the sparkling wines were included in the happy hour pricing. I ordered the hummus and chips to share with my friends as an appetizer. And I must mention that if you like hummus you’ve got to try this. It is made fresh with just the right amount of spices, and it was smooth and creamy. For my meal I ordered the corn chowder. Initially I had ordered a different soup but was told that the chef was making changes to their menu and the chowder is a new item(not on the menu as of yet.) All I can say is the the flavor and spice of Lola’s corn chowder is off the hook… This amazingly delicious chowder has quinoa in it as well as a delicious blend of spices which result in a buttery comforting deliciousness. An added bonus: it’s 100% vegetarian and gluten free!

I had been wanting to check out Lola’s Lounge for some time since it replaced the former Elk Grove Brewery. Finally, I was able to encourage Joe K. to accompany me to a UYE that was being sponsored by Chris C. who happens to be an Elk Grove resident. This notable building is located in an older, more historical part of town on the also historical portion of Elk Grove Blvd. This street has expanded exponentially with time, but this section of road has remained as a narrow, two way street, with fast moving traffic or just dead slow during rush hours. Finding nearby parking is always a challenge when businesses are in full force. It’s not a street that I’m particularly fond of driving on! However, I AM fond of the shops, bars, and restaurants that occupy this same street. During our private«unofficial» Unilocal event, we were given the VIP treatment and acknowledged as special patrons in a reserved section of the bar. The food menu has some delicious looking options that made choosing difficult, but Joe K and I finally settled on two dishes: Joe got the Bocadillo, which is a Cuban Pork Sandwich, chipotle sauce, pickled veggies and accompanied with sweet potato fries. I ordered Fish Tacos that came as a crispy fried cod, mixed with sweet salsa, pico de gallo, and red cabbage, on 3 double wrapped, street style corn tortillas served with limes. Both meals were outstanding in both flavor and cooked to perfection! I also had my usual Tequila Sunrise that hit the spot as well! We had a very enjoyable evening with fellow Unilocalers, just as we always do! Seeing old friends and meeting new ones was another expected UYE highlight. Thanks to our attentive server James and thanks to Chris C. for arranging this fun event and introducing me to another worthy attraction in the good old town of historic Elk Grove!
