Great sandwiches all named after Elgin landmarks. I love the Highland Sandwich. Turkey, dill havarti, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. All sandwiches are toasted. They also offer a variety of pasta salads, chips and desserts to pair with your sandwich. Great spot to stop with the kids when you are visiting town to play softball at the Elgin Sports Complex.

Nice place to eat a sandwich or grab one to go. We decided to give them a try and grab a couple to go for an impromptu picnic & we ordered the Ellis & the St. John. Both sandwiches were quite tasty. Though they did go a bit overboard on the blue cheese & horseradish spread on the St. John, it was oozing out all over the place in big gobs. The menu doesn’t note that those particular sandwiches we ordered are toasted, at least not that we saw, but they are(a plus for me but the Hubs would have chosen something non-toasted had he known). Perhaps any sandwich with the caramelized onions on it are toasted? It would be nice for this to be indicated on the menu. It did seem a bit pricey at just over $ 20 for two average-sized sandwiches &1 small potato salad. But the ingredients all seemed quality & fresh and they are a smaller independent business after all.

Was really impressed with the Reuben. I had it with extra kraut. I wish I had one right now… Also I grabbed a turkey and ham to put in my carry-on and eat during my flight home to LA. It was still amazing hours after being made and not refrigerated.

When I don’t bring lunch to work and am in the mood for a delicious sandwich, In the Neighborhood is my go-to spot. All of the sandwiches I’ve tried have been delicious. The flavor combinations just work. Take the Ellis, for instance. Something about the caramelized onions combined with the saltiness of the pretzel roll just makes the sandwich. And on the Route 31, chicken & pepperoni combined with ranch dressing and hot sauce(among other ingredients) is an awesome combination, and I don’t even really like ranch. The sandwiches are between $ 8 and $ 9, which one might argue is pricey for a sandwich. But that is comparable to what you’d pay at Panera and Jimmy John’s, and the sandwiches are bigger here. Also, I do not make«nom nom nom» noises when I eat sandwiches from Panera or Jimmy John’s, like I do when I eat sandwiches from In The Neighborhood. The main chef(owner?) is super friendly and clearly loves what he does. Kudos.

Ok to start the sandwich new are bass in street buildings event and people from Elgin. Great concept and idea for sandwiches. Then the combination on the sandwiches great! They are unique and some of them I would never thought it would taste good together but they do, The lady at the counter friendly. Pricing well it is $ 8 a sandwich a bit high cause u have to buy everything else separate. Maybe if they had combos it might help the price. Took my co workers there and they liked it as well. It is small quaint place just enough for about 15 people. Looks like most is take out.

First, let me start off by saying that the man making the sandwiches, whom I assume was Jeff, was very friendly and cordial. From there, it went downhill really fast! The old lady with the long gray hair at the register was rude and cold. It was my first time there, so I had a few questions. She just pointed to the menu board on the wall and curtly said, «Those are the sandwiches» Jeff overheard me asking her questions and then answered my questions and was very nice. He was friendly and helpful. I decided on a sandwich and ordered it. After I paid for it, I noticed that on Wednesday it was«Buy one, get one ½ off» Since it was Wednesday, I asked the lady at the counter about this and she snapped, «You already paid for your sandwich, so you can’t get the special» She was so nasty and rude, I could not believe it. I would not be surprised to receive a response like that from some young kid at McDonald’s, but not from someone her age in a small Mom & Pop restaurant… so much for personal service! She really needs to brush up on her customer service skills(or even common courtesy, for that matter!) They really need to get a new person at the counter who knows how to be social and friendly with customers, as she was a rude mess. Maybe she was having a bad day, but she definitely is in the wrong business. Once I got my sandwich I was so disappointed. It was just on regular store bought sliced bread with a very small amount of meat. For $ 7.99 I would expect more than a small, skimpy sandwich on regular store bought bread. Even Subway and Jimmy John’s gives you fresher, homemade bread. It was really a let down as I was hoping that it would be a great find in Elgin. Not so much… So much for my experience as I will never return to this place, and will share my negative experience with friends and family. My grades for INTHENEIGHBORHOODDELI Customer Service — F Quality of Food — D I was hoping this would be a great, fresh, better alternative to Subway or Jimmy John’s, but I guess I will stick with Subway and Jimmy John’s, as this place is a total waste.

Love love love! Jeff is a sandwich architectural genius! Every sandwich comes with the highest quality ingredients, perfectly stacked to keep the integrity of those ingredients. What I mean is that lettuce on his sandwiches remains cold while the cheese is melted and all the other ingredients are perfectly distributed so each bite is a perfect blend of the flavors for the particular sandwich you chose. It’s a masterpeice! Jeff also gives back to the community and has made this neighborhood deli, just that; a part of the neighborhood and the community and a lovely intimate place to have a sandwich.

Place is very small. the chairs are half broken. the menu is dis organized and dis proportioned… the staff isn’t very knowledgable about their own products. also aren’t very hospitable(had to find my own cups for drinks also staff didn’t warn me the fountain drinks were out of service) the sandwich was good but wasn’t traditional, for instance the Reuben sandwich the corned beef was cold when it should have been hot, in another sandwich the avocado tasted frozen or box made. wasn’t fresh, very small selection of canned drinks there’s no bottled root beer or craft soda like epic deli or even potbellys have. everything drink wise is out of service even the tea machine. also the menu needs to be re done everything is pretty much the same with only small variations. also they use an iPad for credit card purchases which is very sketchy and not secure, they need a more sophisticated machine for the cards. I mean I’m glad this neighborhood has a place like this. but if this place is going to stay for the long haul they need to make some major adjustments. will I return again? Maybe once more… I mean the sandwich wasn’t bad at all, wasn’t great either! The broccoli cheddar soup was good. let’s see I will return again one day. I hope to see some improvements made prior to my return, also some daily specials. it’s a little expensive for the products they serve! Wish these guys the best! But it costs to be the boss! Take notes

By far the best deli in Elgin! Discovered with my co-workers a few weeks ago we have been back diligently every Thursday(free drink day!) since. I always order the S.E. Storm, as I love the spice. Other group favorite are the Boca Jump for those who like their sandwiches slightly acidic(think pickled vegetables) or the Clocktower for those that like sandwiches almost as good as the S.E. Storm. The staff is friendly and the space is clean, although the restaurant is small and the service is not the speediest. Not a place for large groups, but perfect for a small group at lunch time.

I have been here a few times and like this place! Good variety of sammies! Everything is made on the spot, so don’t expect a super quick McD’s experience; also not super slow –just right given the food quality. I accidentally ordered takeout through the Elgin location and then showed up at the Dundee location. They called the Elgin location and whipped up my order right away, even though I had paid via phone/credit card already. I wish they had fresh cut French fries ;P They only have bagged chips. Also, one time I went there and they were out of tomatoes, which I love, and is included in a lot of their sammies. I’ll keep going :) Try the portobello sammie… forget what it’s called.

Well today was the second time I went there to get some lunch and I really like this place. All the sandwiches are named after something in Elgin which I think is really cool. The sandwiches are really good and the soups are amazing. I have had the wedding soup and the beefy mushroom and I just love them. As for the sandwiches, I have gotten the Boca Jump, and I really liked that one, today I had the Ill. Park and it was good, but was not that impressed with it. The chicken was kind of bland. Staff was very friendly and service was pretty quick. I would say that if you are in the mood for a deli sandwich, but want something a little different, check this place out.

First off, their menu has soo many different«unique» sandwiches. It’s all written on a huge chalkboard. You can select any type of bread you want. I got the Crusader, which was basically an italian sandwich with«special americano sauce.» It was kind of spicy but it was pretty good. I kinda wished it was warm and had melted cheese on it. It cost $ 9 for that sandwich… wish it came with fries or something– even a pickle would have been nice!
