**** This review is for the Lucy’s that is on Mesa — it’s by some sort of motel. It is not the one by Kings X. **** This was my favorite hole-in-the-wall, but after two bad meals on my two last visits, I am throwing in the towel. Maybe it was my fault for ordering a burger and fries at a place known for Mexican food? The burger was overly salty and lacking any other flavor. And don’t get me started on the fries. It was a real potato cut into wedges that wasn’t fried long enough(although they were black on the outside). It was like eating a semi-raw potato coated in Cajun seasoning(except the Cajun seasoning was actually burned coating). I tried to eat it because I was hungry, but I just couldn’t. It was just that bad. The time before this past experience I wasn’t happy with my food either. I can’t even remember what I ordered, but it was a huge disappointment. I think it was Tapiquena; but it was such a non-memorable meal it’s no surprise I can’t remember exactly what it was. I think I’m giving up on Lucy’s. :-(I’m going to stick with L&J’s because they never fail me.

Fast service, nice staff, great food. Been in El Paso less than a year and this is one of my favorite spots. They play some really great music too though I think that’s coming from the bar next to it?

This place is great! A small mom and pop restaurant attached to a bar. I ordered the machaca plate and it came with a tasty tortilla soup. The chili cheese was fabulous and the meat was super tender! What a great find in El Paso. I’ll definitely come here again

Lucy’s is a landmark dive restaurant in West El Paso that we’ve heard a lot about from old fans and former residents, so we had to give it a go. It’s tiny and attached to a dark and inviting bar area, from which fairly loud classic rock music flowed freely. Service was quick and friendly and they allow you to bring drinks from the bar to your table. Margaritas are weak and use a mix, though at $ 4 a pint it’s hard to complain. Their specialty plates are the way to go here. The Machaca is a shredded beef and queso mix served with eggs or tortillas, and it was good. Likewise, the Tacos Antonia has a beef and spice mixture served on homemade fried corn tortillas with cabbage and avocado, and it’s a favorite. The enchiladas are typical, served with red or green sauce, and ours were well made. The chili relleno, however, was way over cooked and swimming in red greasy sauce. Fairly inedible. The main thing that concerns me here is the apparent lack of cleanliness in the openly visible kitchen. While most of the food was on target, it’s nauseating to consider that where it’s prepared wasn’t the cleanest of places. I hope that today was an anomaly. I’d say 3−½ stars otherwise.

Tried Lucy’s based on recommendation of friend. I’ve never had machaca before. My loss! Machaca was delicious. Came in at 1pm and ordered and had my food in 4 minutes. Crazy fast. There was a lot of food and the tortilla was hot and fresh. Only reason I don’t give it five stars is no mimosas for brunch(which is a little weird since there is bar connected to it)

Flavorful and homemade food all around. Their house salsa packs a punch and is a highlight with a thicker style chip. Chile relleno is also a stand out. Fair warning, they may introduce chile con queso to items without your knowledge. I’d return.

When they are bad, they’re not that bad. When they are good, they are really good. I usually think of Lucy’s as the 2nd best menudo in town behind Good Luck. Today however I must say that the menudo at Lucy’s was as good as any I have ever had. It was just damn good. As always my wife loves her machaca plate. What a great visit today was. I would kill for their recipes, or at least a lifetime gift certificate.

Since everyone rave about the manchaca, I just had to try it out myself. I had the breakfast version where it came with hashbrown instead of rice. It was tasty. The cheese sauce, tasted kind of like a queso dip for a ball game-a watered down velveeta cheese. Despite that, it was still good. Wanted to try their caldos but none available that day other than menudos. So, I had a bowl of it. It came piping hot, the way I like it. It was very good menudo!!! One of the top places on my book for menudos in El Paso.

Haven’t been here and years, and it’s still delicious. Can’t go wrong with the machaca plate, chimichangas, or tacos Antonia.

I lived in West El Paso back in 2008. I didn’t really like living there. I was far away from everyone and everything I grew up around in NY. But one day… a coworker of mine took me to Lucy’s. At first glance, it looked like something I would regret for two days. We walked inside and I sat down on a broken stool. I didn’t care though. My nostrils were being taunted by the salty and the spicy. I was told to order the Machaca. I thought. «What the… is that?!» I’m Jewish… so the owner told me to think of Brisket. I thought deeply about the tastes of awesome and delicious. Before I knew it… a plate was placed in front of me with meat smothered in a cheese sauce, hash browns, refried beans, and a tortilla. Washed it down with a homemade iced tea(sugar added). This culinary creation would be the last meal I would order if I was on death row. Who needs a steak?!

This place looks a little run down. But man, tacos Antonio is amazing. Don’t look at anything else, get these tacos. It comes with three hard shell tacos. They are jam packed with meat and topped with a creamy white sauce.

Found this gem years ago and it’s one of my first stops in El Paso. Machaca machaca machaca machaca machaca machaca machaca. Did I mention machaca? Slip out the side or back and grab a drink at KingsX.

I had never had Machaca before coming to Lucy’s. They served it with this incredibly delicious cheese sauce.(See Norby J’s photo downstream)… I’ve been to other Mexican restaurants since, but have never had another Machaca plate as delicious as this. Or that incredible cheese sauce. Last time we were there, we ordered a new favorite: Tacos Antonia. Hard to decide. I love that Machaca/Queso sauce a little too much!

One of the best Mexican food places in El Paso! I have been going to Lucy’s since I was little and now I bring my daughter here. We especially love going for breakfast.

This place is a little run down, but isn’t that the case with all hole in the wall restaurants? Everytime I’m in Las Cruces I try to make a trip down to El Paso so I can get the Tacos Antonia, which is the house specialty. It consists of hand made fried tortilla shells, covered with their signature seasoned salt, brisket, avocado, cabbage, and cheese. Sooo delicious, if that doesn’t make your mouth water then something is wrong. These aren’t your typical tacos, and that’s what makes them so good. A little tip, to make the tacos even more delectable, put some of the salsa(which is pretty spicy) on the tacos you won’t regret it. The inside is pretty small, but there is also a bar in the back. Service is alright, but they are usually pretty speedy with bringing your food out. The owner is usually there and he is very friendly. We got an order of tacos to-go when we ordered our lunch, and right when we were about finished he brought out the to-go order without us even having to ask, which I think says something about customer service. I would recommend this place to anyone trying to stay away from the bland chain mexican restaurants.

5-stars for the machaca breakfast plate, their salsa, and the friendly face and hand shakes. Been 20+yrs since last time here/in El Paso-same delicious taste in the same dive-side of the King’s X.

My buddy brought me here when I was visiting El Paso. Not far from his place. But coming here and seeing the outside, I would not expect to get the quality of food and service. It doubles as a bar next door and attached. KINGS X. Loud music was echoing into the restaurant part, but no problem. Our server was polite. I said bring me food. She laughed and took my buddies order who orders the same thing everytime. YAWN. What I got was excellent.(See photo). One crispy taco with flavorful beef, a stuffed poblano pepper that was cooked to perfection. One enchilada with cheese, and a very tasty tamale topped with queso. Then nice tasting rice and re-fried beans. No complaints. Waitress was very polite and helpful. Tables were clean, the kitchen looked a little worn but I was very happy with it all. Not WOW, but good for me. A comfortable place to visit.
