We experienced Elmcrest a few months back when my grandmother had health issues that she needed to recover from after the hospital visit. While we were not entirely impressed it was sufficient to her needs. She is 99 years old and despite the age her faculties are entirely in place and she gets around very well. She can cruise the house and make meals for herself. My mother does live with her but there are times when grandma wants beans with tortilla and she’ll just get up and get it herself. So onto the beginning of this month. My grandmother had accidentally taken the wrong meds and was taken to the ER. She was released within a few days and due to her age was taken to Elmcrest. This time was very different. She was placed in a room that had no room to have a guest and for the nurse to functionally observe her. It was tiny quarters. Within a few days we had a call at night stating that she had fallen, WHAT? While Elmcrest had placed a motion sensor on her to detect when patients leave the bed it was not responded too. She states she did not fall but was treated badly by staff, hence the bruises on her ribs and leg. A few days later we get another call stating that she had fallen again. This episode had her with a black eye that is swollen shut and stitches in her head. She was beaten. She stated to us to please get her out of there or she will die. We immediately without doctors order physically took her. We have contacted the State of California and have opened an elder abuse case. The insurance co staff came to take pictures of her and will be refusing to pay Elmcrest for any services and are releasing them from doing business with them any longer. Alta Med is also filing a grievance towards Elmcrest. Do not take your loved ones here.

The staff, doctors, and nurses are really nice and caring. The nurse to patient ratio is great, it’s about 1 nurse for every 6 patients. Everyone gets the care they need.

Some nurses and assistant are lazy so you will always need to be around. The person who has activities with the patients there is very active and is very nice to them. They also wash the patient’s clothes there if you want. As long as you bring and put their name onto the clothes you bring. My mom likes ice cream, so she is served ice cream for deserts and has snacks between breakfast, lunch and dinner if she wants. You can also bring your own food for them too if you want.
