I followed the address in Sacramento provided by friend and also other Unilocaler, tried to find the new spot but failed. No way there could be a restaurant. There are small shops selling everything but food. So far it’s a mystery where the new spit is or if there’s going to be one. Hope anyone with information can share!

It’s closed and I heard that they moved to Sacramento. Wednesday(October 7) is the grand opening of a new Thai Restaurant.

This is my favorite place for passed 6 years. I have been going to them since they were at old address. Their style is like family style with great price you couldn’t find anywhere else. Service is great but of course you couldn’t compared with expensive restaurant I hate to see them closed. New address is CELLARBISTRO1115FRONTSTREETSACRAMENTOCA. I definitely will drop in when I visit Sacramento. Miss you. MAC’s WOK!!!

Another visit to Mac’s Wok with my family. We ordered my two favorites, the salt and pepper cod, and the steamed pork patty. They were of course wonderful. But this time we also wanted to try something new. It was a chicken dish with Chinese mushrooms(the brown ones I love) and Chinese sausage(lop chong). I don’t remember the exact name, but I’m pretty sure it was CH17 or CK17 on the menu, whatever their two-letter abbreviation for chicken is. This new dish was pretty good, but could have been better. There was a lot of grease at the bottom, probably from the sausage. The chicken was tender though. They didn’t skimp of the sausage, but I was hoping for more mushrooms. We also really enjoyed the vampire movie playing on one of the televisions. It was so weird and campy, it was comical. We couldn’t leave until the end of the movie because we wanted to see how it ends. Good thing there weren’t people waiting to eat.

I had been here many times for afternoon tea and dinner… All I wanna say is: their service sucks… Although the price are reasonable and the dishes taste pretty good, the service was really really poor. The staff were rude and they actually don’t deserve any tips. My family and I did have some unhappy experience here and we decided not to go there anymore

Love coming here for happy hour it starts from 2:30 — 5:30. I usually get the honey walnut prawns, beef chow fun and with a Hong Kong style iced milk tea. They have a variety to order from in their happy hour menu and a lot I have yet to try. Good place and good proportion of food.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. They have happy hour from 230−530p. Big parking lot, always space available. They allow credit card. The store is clean and always have space. I ordered the egg drop beef rice for $ 3.88… It was good for that price. The sauce was a little watery but I like it that way. A reasonable amount of beef slices, which were a little tasteless. There was also a couple bites of hardened rice, which either signifies leftover rice or uncooked rice. However, the dish was okay overall. Worth giving it a shot if one craves Chinese food that taste okay andcheap, esp during HH.

One star off just for the service, because it can get really slow at times… Otherwise, this is a hole in the wall place, and I definitely recommend it! I absolutely love this place, because it feels like I’m back at home with homecooked meals. I love that they serve you complimentary soup after you order. Their dishes are definitely worth eating family style, and it’s SO, SOCHEAP! Their honey glazed spare ribs are on point every time. I would mix the rice with the leftover sauce afterwards, I highly recommend this dish. If you like to add some vegetables, go for the string beans with garlic(don’t remember the name), but it’s really tasty. I’ve gotten a lot of other random dishes, but I don’t remember all the names. Honestly, everything here is decent to great. So go with what your heart desires!

I’ve been here a couple times now since they have opened and the restaurant is just going downhill. Food is just mediocre. Their happy hour is cheap, but my God, their customer service is WORSE than Chinatown service. The woman waitress or owner lady, whoever she is, is the rudest, most unkind person ever. She throws the menu onto the table, throws the check tray onto the table. She’ll literally SIGH out loud if you request anything like oh a napkin, water, or any extra utensils. I wonder if they expect a tip? All their servers are pretty much the same, untrained and not professionals. Note to restaurant: Beef chow fun is supposed to be made with«wide rice noodles», not the small/thin ones. I hope they see this and fix this for the future, though I won’t be caught coming here again to see for myself.

The cheapest Chinese food around town! Come for the lunch special and you’ll spend under 10 bucks for a pretty decent lunch! I love their every day soup«li tang» as it is free for all those enjoying dinner. At night it gets somewhat crowded. I love the old school Cantonese kung fu movies! Two things I always get here is the Generals Chicken and Honey Walnut Shrimp! The shrimp is a great price for the quantity and quality that you get! I definitely recommend it!

My family and I love Mac’s Wok… Here are my mine & my families fave things to order: Lobster with pan fried noodles! — sooo good! I love the crunchy bits of noodle that are mixed with the softer parts of noodle that have soaked up the lobster green onion sauce…& you get an entire fresh lobster on top at a super affordable price -$ 16 Pea leaves with Garlic! — If you go with a big group I suggest you order two plates of these! They are soooo GOOD! The pea leaves are a cross between spinach, bok choy, and swiss chard. a dark leafy green sauteed in FRESH garlic. so you get chunks of cooked fresh garlic, not a garlic corn starch sauce coating everything… their my favorite! Green Onion Pancake with curry sauce– my Daughter loves these and can eat both pancakes by herself. Their crispy on the outside full of yummy Green Onions accompanied by a curry sauce. Shrimp dumplings– these usually take a little longer than the other food but they are worth it. their steamed so their soft and filled with chunks of shrimp, ginger, & garlic. These are my Moms favorite. Chicken Wonton Soup– I’ve been in search of Won Ton soup this good since I use to eat a Golden Dynasty in El Cerrito as a little girl. The Won Tons themselves have a thin light white noodle not that thick hard yellow noodle that I really dislike. It also comes with bok choy and green onions in a flavorful broth. I would’ve given Macs Wok 5 stars but the service isn’t great. It depends on who you get. if youre lucky enough to get the only man waiter there you’ll be alright. I always look for him. He’s all business. he’s never confused or gets the order wrong & he makes great suggestions. If you get any of the ladies there, good luck. Their usually very soft spoken and get confused easily… they usually will leave a few times to consult with him. There is also an elderly lady who brings and clears plates but doesn’t know a word of english so I always try to avoid asking her for anything even though she is pleasant. Once anyone takes your order and brings your food your pretty much on your own so you should definitely ask for hot sauce before that happens or else you’ll have to get up yourself to grab it.

The food is ok. But the services getting worse! I come here pretty often before! But this time are very bad experience! The owner give us attitude just because we order the same dish like the next table, but our dish came smaller and less vegetables. We did request to swap different noodle in the dish, but we didn’t ask for different dish or less vegs. And she give us the attitude just because we asked about it! We didn’t change or canceled the dish at the end! But it’s not a pleasure experience! It’s a cheap place, I guess u get what u pay for!

Our chosen restaurant was closed on Monday. While in the parking lot deciding where else to go, we watched a steady stream of mostly Asian blue collar customers enter Mac’s Wok, a bare looking place. Figuring it couldn’t be too bad, we gave it a shot. Very cheap, but decent Chinese food! Lunch rice specials with your selection plus house soup of the day, starting at $ 4.88? That qualifies for very cheap! At these prices we didn’t care that the menus were just photocopies, and to save money they scribbled changes on the sheets. Actually there were quite a few pages to read through. The portions aren’t huge, but large enough for lunch. My stir fried cod filet with Chinese vegetables came out exactly as I anticipated and was pretty good. My dad’s beef chow fun was a bit bland and they didn’t have hot mustard, but did have hot chili oil garlic sauce. No complaints though. There’s no doubt we’ll be back again. I have no doubt my dad will be back even more. It doesn’t even need a senior citizens discount!

They actually close at 10 on Sunday, but the guy was really chill about me calling at 9:45. It seems like they have really good customer service. Really good portions, reasonable prices, good food. But the meats we got(sesame chicken & dried fried ribs) had too much taste so I suggest getting some rice(idk why we didn’t). Would definitely try to come back soon!

Alright, I don’t hate Mac’s Wok, I really don’t. Their portions are enormous and their food is your average fare for a Chinese café. Top that off with being one of the only HK café type places in the area, I wouldn’t hesitate to eat here if I was looking for something cheap and HK café-style. There’s a crapton of options. The price point is good and they’re open late. They also have happy hour, this really just can’t get a lot more ideal in terms of HK Style cafes in the area. I had an iron plate chicken steak. The cut was ok. The flavor was ok. Came with fries, egg, gravy, noodles and a drink. But that’s it, everything was ok for like $ 8. I have no qualms with coming back and honestly, you really should enjoy having such a high value place in the area! So go, Enjoy! PS– my gravy came in a medium sized bowl. So if you like gravy, you are going to enjoy this!

This spot has tons of options for amazing values. The menu has endless little plates to choose from. We had the seafood and tofu soup. and the bowl could literally serve four people. It was served in a metal bowl and was really tasty and warming. The veggie egg rolls were crispy and flavorful, the spring onion pancake(roti) with curry sauce was delicious, super flakey and crispy and the sauce went really well with it. The ambiance and décor left much to be desired, so basically the food is king here. Come for the food, it’s good and cheap.

Basically lots of food for very cheap! Not the best in quality, but they have a crazy extensive menu list so something on there is bound to be good, or at least pleasing. Literally they have like a 12 page menu with small 10 pp font front and back! Last time I ordered the boiled cold chicken(not on the menu) with the yummy ginger scallion oil sauce(basically the only reason I love this dish), and the fish salt fried rice. It was great! Really enjoyed it. You can find other regular items for 5 $- I got the egg drop noodles, which wasn’t my favorite, but so much food! Its clean in the restaurant and bright– sort of has an antispetic feeling– but that is better than being dirty! The waitress is a very shy Chinese lady, but sweet nonetheless. Food is more on the bland side than overly salty– at least the dishes I’ve tried which is greatly appreciated when it comes to cheap Chinese food. Will be a regular here!

GREAT place to eat. workers/owners are friendly. very clean place. i normally go to places like DNA for there happy hour chinese food. BUT those places are usually VERY dirty and the ONLY reason i put up with it is because of the price i pay. so yea this place is cheap, friendly, fresh, and fast too. OH! and the best thing, its not just cash only!

Kids say the darnest things. For example, «Do you have roaches in the kitchen?» Mid way through my meal, two little kids sitting at a table nearby started screaming«Roach! Roach! Roach!» All the other patrons eyed their table and we all certainly saw a cockroach on the floor near them. I must admit, friends and I chuckled a bit just seeing those kids freak out. The owner(man in dirty green apron) goes over and snatches up the roach in a napkin. He explains that they just sprayed the kitchen yesterday. 10 min later, the kids start screaming again but this time, there’s a roach on their table. A lady in an apron comes out and just grabs the roach with her bare hand. I was thinking… I hope she’s gonna wash her hands! The two kids and their mom then ask if they can move to another table. Wow, if that was me, I’d just get up and leave the place. Basically, Mac’s Wok is a dirty little hole in the wall restaurant with roaches in sight. No shame… just letting it all hang out there. You come in and are barely greeted. The man in the dirty green apron slaps the menu down on the table. The menu consists of photocopied papers stapled together. They have a huge menu of 300+ items. Everything is pretty inexpensive there and you can surely eat like a king. I heard that they have good wontons so I went to try it for lunch with 2 friends. I also heard the portions are huge. We order the wonton and beef brisket rice noodles. The green apron man says they don’t have any wonton. He explains that they got all stuck together in the freezer and that they had to throw them out. There wasn’t enough time for them to make new ones yet. I go for the brisket and fish ball rice noodle soup instead. We also get a brisket egg noodle soup. We order bbq pork… green apron man says they are out too. One friend said that would be enough bc the portions are large so we just went with the 2 noodle bowls. They served us each complimentary egg drop soup. I didn’t care for it though and left most of it untouched. The soup noodle bowls were indeed huge and probably could have fed 4 adults easily. We were all full. Although there wasn’t that much brisket, there were a ton of noodles. The soup flavor seemed pretty good but we were all a bit paranoid about the roaches and ate our meal carefully. The roach count went up to 3 when my friend saw a small one on the floor by our table. Yuck! Our total bill was $ 11.25. We paid and got out of there. Maybe I’m being too generous with my 2 star rating… Will not be a repeat customer though.
