I’m truly surprised by all the great review of Yi Sushi. My experience was terrible. Ordered miso and vegetable soup, both had a very strong chemical smell to them and we did not eat them. We ordered edamame, gyoza and 3 rolls. Edamame never came. Gyoza ok, rolls were warm. I did think the shrimp tempura roll was pretty good but I was feeling a little queasy from the soup and couldn’t really enjoy it. The worst was the service. Not rude exactly, just uncaring. Server barely made contact with us, no smile, no hello, just an order taker(barely). She even set one of our plates on the table still hanging off the edge(there was plenty of room) and skittered away like we had a contagious disease or something. Even my 10 year old was like, really? If the server acted like she gave a crap about my business I might come back(and not get soup!) and give it another try. I wait tables as well and can be a tough critic but can also be forgiving because I understand the business. I also don’t like to give negative reviews. I probably should have spoken up in the restaurant but felt kind of intimidated. Too many sushi restaurants around here to waste my time and money with this one.

The first time I went to this restaurant the service was EXCELLENT! I know nothing about sushi, and so the young female server was extremely helpful with assisting me in picking out the perfect selection. The second time I went expecting the same level of service, I was supremely disappointed. A(slightly) older female server with tattoos offered no assistance whatsoever. I told her of my lack of knowledge in sushi, of the assistance I previously received, and a general description of what I ordered before. She sets a menu down and walks away. The food is amazing, but if that server is ever at the front next time I visit… I’ll pass.

The first time I had a California roll here it was pretty good, but the second time I ate here I felt a little sick after it might be because I tried a new roll. Which was the shrimp tempura roll, but I won’t be returning although it was quick service and I like their happy hour menu.

Hands down my favorite sushi place in east county. This hole in the wall place is a great find. Came here for a cousins birthday and kept coming back over the years. Great sushi, great prices, and the staff is — you guessed it– great. I always ask the waiter a couple questions in regards to what I should get and they’re more than helpful with their suggestions. Also love the décor.

Anything is better than Tabu honestly ! This place opened a few years ago and it’s been clean and under good condition ever since. The staff is friendly and know what they are talking about. Fish freshness is much fresher than other sushi joints in the area. Overall this place is better quality and taste. I would recommend it :) they also have weekly specials.

I am proud to say that I am a regular at yi! They have the best crunchy, and shrimp tempura rolls. Their garlic edamame is cooked to perfection and they have amazing desert. In addition to that, their customer service is truly remarkable. I recommend it to all my sushi lovers! Yi will not disappoint you!

Only a few handful Japanese places in East County and this is the best by far! They have lunch specials and happy hour specials. It’s big and inviting in here and the staff are friendly. It’s a bit on the pricier side if you don’t get a special or happy hour. The rolls I have tried are so good and fresh. The chicken teriyaki you can tell is healthy and not fatty or greasy like some other places.

I came here on a Friday night and was pleasantly surprised. The ambience was great and a lot of the items on the menu were very well priced, especially the amount of food you get! I ordered the baked mussels, dynamite roll, and the chicken udon. All of which were delicious and was completely stuffed by the end of my meal. The sauce on top of the mussels was sweet and creamy, and went very well with the mussels. The dynamite roll was baked and topped with crab meat, scallops, and avocado — perfect creamy goodness! My favorite would probably be the chicken udon. I felt the broth really made the dish. I will definitely be coming back here to try the happy hour, and anytime to get my sushi cravings :)

Recently moved to Rancho San Diego, and have been trying to find a decent sushi place in the area. Went to Yi Sushi last night based on the generally positive reviews, but our meal was a huge disappointment, and I felt like I wasted both my time and my money. The garlic edamame we had for an appetizer were dripping in what I think was teriyaki sauce, with hardly any garlic to be seen. My nabeyaki udon was really bad — it actually had carrots, broccoli, and zucchini in it, which should NOT be in this soup. The chicken was tough and the broth flavorless. Really bad. The sushi was okay — a step up from what you would pick up at Ralphs or Vons — but the hamachi kama was way overcooked. My wife and I won’t be coming back to Yi Sushi.

My recent experience at yi sushi wasn’t that great. My wife called ahead so I can pick it up on the way home from work. When I got there at 6, to my surprise, the order wasn’t there. After much searching through the receipts the server /cashier found the order and told me that it had been picked up already. Strike one. No more than 5 mins after the discovery, they receive a phone call from a customer who states, surprisingly, they picked up the wrong order. She tells them that they just realized the mistake and they can come pick up their order. She puts them on a brief hold and tells me they found my order and if I would like the food when it’s returned. No offense to the party that has my food but I wouldn’t want it now. She tells them they can keep the order and come back to pick up their original order. Strike 2. I ask them to make a fresh order. While I’m waiting, I speak to the manager, Kevin, who was kind enough to discount $ 7 off a $ 27.00 order. Thank you kevin. 30 mins later, order is up and I head home. We open the packaging and the presentation is horrible and rushed. I’m sure they wanted to expedite my order, but due to my already increasing frustrations, the sloppy presentation of the roll was the third strike. After this experience, I wouldn’t recommend calling in orders for happy hour. If you do have time to go in, I would recommend dining in for happy hour. Side note this is not my first time here, my family and I have been here. multiple times before and we’re very surprised with the horrible service.

We live for Yi Sushi Happy Hour because it’s available everyday so we will never starve. Where else can you get top quality sushi at a discounted price? My wife and I have been to a lot of Sushi restaurants and we are pretty particular. This is one of those restaurants that raises the bar. Irene, the owner, is always there taking care of her clients making them feel right at home. I can’t say enough good things about Irene and her restaurant. Bravo!

This establishment is ABSOLUTELYAMAZING, for multiple reasons! The food is fresh and delicious, the staff is very friendly & attentive, the atmosphere is modern & relaxing, the prices are extremely affordable, and their happy hour is the best in town! This particular visit, I had a Chirashi Bowl, which is not on their menu, but as usual… they went above & beyond and made it happen! The servers Irene & Charleen, are by far, the BEST seevers I have ever had! They are super friendly, informative, and quick! Yi Sushi is a MUST try!!!

The THUNDERROLL! T_T that is now my absolute favorite now! I’ve been coming here for a few years and never wrote a review until now. The service is fast, and everyone is very polite! The fish is always fresh! My favorite thing to start with is their Salmon Sashimi! Yuuuum! Their chef is a sushi master! Love love love this place!

Pretty good value for a sushi place. I ordered the sashimi deluxe and another roll in expectation that the deluxe wouldn’t fill me up. Boy was I wrong. My wife got a bowl of soup and it was huge. The food was all good except for the salad that comes with the meal. It was the one disappointment.

Happy hour is fabulous! Best part about it is you can call in your happy hour order from $ 3, $ 4, $ 5 menu from 3−6p daily and still get the happy hour deals TOGO! We are new to the area and miss our sushi in SD so we got to try the Rancho Roll, East County Roll, SD Roll which were all tasty. The 2nd time we went we got all the HH deals and picked it up to go. There was 1 guy at the bar and 1 family inside doesn’t ever look packed which is nice. HH is EVERYday! Awesome deal!

What a gem! The happy hour sold me. Monday through Saturday 3pm to 6 pm. Now the selection is huge. But it’s quality over quantity right? We always get the crunch roll and jamacha roll. But I recently tried the $ 5 udon. AMAZING! I’m a udon lover so this hit the spot. And it has chicken(my favorite) The chicken katsu was great and a big hit with my son! They have a hibachi grill. And that will be my next thing to try. If you are looking for fresh good sushi this is a must try.

I try my best to eat healthy Monday-Friday.(Today is Friday) I didn’t feel like cooking so I thought sushi would be a good choice. This restaurant is close to where I live. I have read the reviews. They were mixed, but the the bad ones had similar testimony. I also saw that they had a very reasonable Happy Hour so I decided to try it, despite of the negative reviews that concerned me. The restaurant itself is decent on the inside. The floor needed a sweep though, which was being worked on well after I get seated. Mind you, there wasn’t a soul in sight beforehand(zero customers) Not sure why they didn’t have the floor swept prior. I played it safe and ordered from the Happy Hour Menu. They had quite a few items which ranged from $ 3-$ 5 in price. I opted for the cucumber roll and the spicy tuna roll which came to a measly $ 7 and my husband ordered a shrimp tempura roll. The rolls came out in a decent amount of time. The cucumber roll was good but nothing special at all. The spicy tuna on the other hand… well, let’s just say that the fish was just about as fishy as Starkist and about as mushy as oatmeal! No bueno… I had one bite and left the rest there. $ 4 sushi wasn’t worth the risk of food poisoning. Not to mention the fact that it tasted horrible! In all fairness… the prices were dirt cheap… but I would have rather paid a bit more and got fresh fish. My husband said his was«pretty good»…but nothing special. He didn’t like that his roll was wrapped in seaweed which the menu didn’t specify. I wish this place would have worked out as I live very close by & the HH is very reasonable… Oh well… Moral of the Story: You get what you pay for!

First time here, and still trying out all the sushi places in El Cajon since I’m new to the area. They have a great happy hour that’s daily from 3−6pm, which you can’t beat for what they offer. I ordered the spicy tuna, and the Philadelphia rolls. They were both great, but I have had better Philadelphia rolls. The spicy tuna were better in my opinion. I gave it 4 stars since it was my first time, the customer service was great, and I left satisfied.
