I’ve been coming to Los Chavos for over 13 years! Their food is always outstanding! The staff there are always super nice.

This place charges tax on a .50 refill and their pazole was all bone and fat. No meat at all.

This place was recommended by a bartender friend of mine who said it was great. Who better to take a hangover food recommendation from than a bartender, right? She said the Pollo Asada Fries were the bomb. I’m not much into Pollo and prefer chips over fries, so I went with Carne Asada chips. They come with sour cream, salsa and beans. I opted to pass on the sour cream, beans and salsa, going strictly with Carne Asada, guacamole and cheese. They were awesome. The chips were hot and fresh, as was the Carne Asada. I typically use Carne Asada Chip as my litmus test when trying new taco shops. Los Chavos definitely measures up. We were in around lunch time on a Thursday afternoon and there was quite a line forming out front. We opted to go inside to order and dine. Our order was taken almost immediately and the food was ready in quick fashion. They offer fountain drinks, which is a bonus in my book. There is just something so much better about soda over ice, than straight out of a can. My lunch dates both opted for Carne Asada burritos and were impressed, both with the size and flavor. Prior to visiting Los Chavos, I read Sean M’s review that said this was his favorite taco shop in East County and possibly all of San Diego. Those were some pretty bold statements, in that there are a lot of taco shops in these parts. I can’t say that I disagree with the East County ranking though. Los Chavos very well may be my new EC favorite(at least top two). I will definitely be back.

By far my favorite taco shop, in East County and possibly in all of San Diego, which is saying a lot! I have been coming here since I moved to East County five years ago and recommend their Carne Asada fries, the Titan Burrito, or any of their Breakfast burritos. Definitely will be coming here for years to come.

I really like this place because you will always going to get a good experience here and the people that work here are nice. I recommend the extreme breakfast burrito and their al pastor t.j. tacos. The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is that the food is good and not out of this world, mind blowingly outstanding. However, you will not be disappointed when you come to eat at Los Chavos.

I use them all the time, the food is good but they mess up my orders all the time. Then it’s hard to get them to fix it.

Los Chavos has some of the best mexican food I’ve ever had! The beans are are amazing and there’s something about the beef rolled tacos that make them better than most. Their menu is huge and I haven’t come close to trying everything but the things I have tried have always been delicious! I’d recommend the Walter burrito to anyone who asks. It’s huge and it’s wrapped in a quesadilla! Eat at Los Chavos when you’re in the mood for good mexican food. You won’t be disappointed.

El Cajon is just a maze of taco shops and Los Chavos is literally across the street from another one off North 2nd street near Greenfield. While there are plenty of places to grab some greasy Mexican food out in east county, it’s always hard to find the good ones. Located right next to the Grinder, this shop has a pretty good sized lot with outside tables as well as inside. Even though there is no drive thru here, you can either order you food outside or inside it’s up to you. Personally with the intense heat out in El Cajon lately, I’d go inside but also because that’s where you need to go to grab some hot sauce from their salsa bar( ). Their salsa bar features three different types of red sauce and one green sauce. While the green was really weak in the spicy department, the reds provided ample heat. The two on the left had really great taste and added plenty of good flavors to the food. While they do accept credit cards here, be prepared to pay their stupid 50 cent transaction fee, so bring cash if this is an issue for you. This taco shop has a decent sized menu with a specials one written on a dry eraser board opposite side of the counter. They even have some interesting special burritos here like the Fuego Burrito which has American guacamole, hot cheetos, nacho cheese and carne asada if you’re into the weird tasting burrito realm of things. Also if you’re a big fan of soup they serve birria de chivo, menudo and pozole every day. The Titan burrito( ) here is MASSIVE. This thing was one of the biggest burrito’s I have eaten and it was so large it came in a huge container instead of your standard burrito wrapper. The Titan( ) has carne asada, fries, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and salsa stuff inside of their massive tortillas. The tortilla was literally almost spilling out because it was so stuffed. The burrito contained a good amount of carne asada, even though it wasn’t evenly spread out. The asada here has really good flavor to it and tasted like it was freshly cooked for my burrito. The string fries they used were still crispy and they didn’t go cheap on the guac or sour cream. A very good burrito and even though it was a bit pricey at 7.50, it was huge. You get your money’s worth out of it, that’s for sure. They offer a great variety of TJ style tacos here so I gave a birria taco( ) a shot at only $ 1.39 each. The taco was really good, the meat perfectly seasoned and marinated. The corn tortillas were soft and a bit puffy but still tasted good. The squeeze of lime added the perfect zing to their meat. Their rolled tacos( ) here were just okay in my opinion as they were only topped with guacamole, cotija and some shredded cheese. They were crispy enough and had plenty of chicken meat filling but its kinda lame they didn’t add any lettuce or tomato to the top. Their hot carrots( ) come in a pretty small bag, but they are downright delicious. They are just tender enough with great texture and had plenty of spicy heat to them. The carrots also tasted really fresh, I don’t know if they just got done making them or what. The Mexican guacamole( ) here made a great dip for them as well. Its slightly chunky guacamole rather than your typical smooth pureee that most places offer. Los Chavos not only has a really decent sized menu with some custom items but the food tastes pretty good. The flavors of their salsas, food, and ingredients went together really well. Out in El Cajon even though you have tons of Mexican spots, it’s hard to find the quality ones like this. The only thing I would change about this place is their slightly higher than usual prices. But high prices usually come with better tasting food a lot of the times. Still can’t believe how big that damn burrito was.

This place should be 5 stars. The burritos are huge. Let me repeat… the burritos are HUGE. Get the Walter, get whatever. The service is always on point and quick. The ladies and gentleman here deliver high quality food every single time I visit. My boy recommended me here and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s worth a drive even if you aren’t in the area.

Los Chavos is… Los Chavos. There’s nothing special about the place for me except when I need to get that quick fix Mexican craving kind of deal. Price is reasonable and I always get it to go since I work near the area – hence parking isn’t a hassle. I’ve tried their Hot Cheeto(Fuego) burrito and that was pretty good. Their TJ tacos were a miss for me. Their fries were also not as good as other Mexican places I’ve been to. Their rolled tacos are cheap, but they’re nothing too special. Their salsa/sauce selection is also very limited so that leaves me pretty bummed. On the other hand, the cashiers are always super nice and they’re always really accommodating :) They’re awesome!

So I’ve been to this location multiple times and Overall the food is good. always paid cash and I always tip well because they give good portion size. But last time I went I payed with a credit card. The cashier asked if I wanted the receipt and I said no its okay. She gave me my card and I sat down to wait. When my food was ready she told me my card didn’t go through. She had to run it again. I checked my bank account while in the store and both transaction had gone through. I told her about it and she said It just shows that but it’ll clear in a few days. I called my bank right away and they comfimed they charged me twice. Pretty much the bank is going handle everything for me. I think it’s just pretty messed up they do that kind of fraud… Overall foods good just watch out for overcharges.

So salty! I ordered the 10 beef rolled tacos with guac and cheese, and a side of beans. My girlfriend got the grilled chicken burrito, which she dubbed the«grilled salt lick burrito.» It was great for the first couple of bites, but the saltiness builds and builds. I got through the rolled tacos, but the beans defeated me. The tacos are crispy on the end, but very soggy under the guacamole. I think they let the tacos sit as they worked on the burrito. Maybe they would have been better with just cheese. The red salsa is fantastic! Nice and spicy, and great flavor! A final note: I see a lot of reviews that mention the great prices here. It costs more than most other Mexican food places in the area, so I don’t know what they’re comparing their prices to…

Just a little above meh. Tried their carne and frijoles a couple of times now and have been underwhelmed. Prices are good, but I’d rather pay more to get a quality burrito. Carne is chewy and very salty. Beans are way salty with no other flavor. Service was fast and friendly. IFYOUGO– Parking is a nightmare. Try and park in the Grinder lot and sneak over, but whatever you do don’t go to the Grinder. I don’t know how it’s been in business so long and why people like it so much. Apparently they don’t know there’s a Jersy Mike’s or Deli Belly in town. Or Sarita’s. Or Los Pinos.
