Ducky’s Barber Shop

I had been cutting my hair for a while cus I had given up on barbershops trying to figure out my hair.
I decided to give Ducky’s a try, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Mike fixed my mess of a hair and I’ve been going to him ever since.
Sadly, I had to move away, but whenever I’m back in town, I go see Mike first thing. He’s spoiled me because now I can’t find a barber that does half as good as job as he does.

This has been the only barber shop I’ve used in the last two years. You find a good place and stick with it. Mike and Jessie are good guys who are good at what they do. Highly recommend these guys, you will not be disappointed.

Jesse was my barber from Barberside, he just knows what is what, since 2010 boys skillz were on point now hes a grown manbarber, wish I had wheels to get out to el cajon, worth the drive. Cool guy missing your fades.

I really didn’t want to be too negative, but I just had to give a review. I came here to get a cut because my hair was getting too long (according to my standards) and I thought I’d drop by for a cut. I think I got there either at 5 or 6, I don’t remember. I like Razor Fades (I don’t really like the machine shavers), because I like to have a clean, fresh fade. So that’s why I go here. I ended up tipping like 2 – 3 bucks on top of the 20 for the Razor fade. I think too often, I’m too timid to speak up sometimes. So I go home and realize how butchered my cut was. I had a buddy who lives in phoenix and I sent him texts of my haircut. He said it was horrible. I also have realized, that from the past few trips, they really don’t know how to do a lineup (They’re not an urban shop, so they probably deserve some grace). I don’t think I’ll be coming back anymore. Maybe it was late and the barber just wanted me in and out, or possibly had another customer waiting and he wanted to go home soon. I was two weeks or less away from a wedding my wife, child and I were going to attend!
In all honestly, maybe at a more convenient time, the barber would have cut my hair better. I’m not typing this as a diss or hate, just from a bad experience. Barber was Mike

The best hair cut I’ve had in years.
The first time I showed up on new years even and they told me there was a two hour wait, I was hooked knowing that a barber shop this busy had to be good. I was the last cut of the day for Mike and he did an amazing job.
Perfect razor fade. Better than every place I’ve got a cut around a military base. I love the feel of the shop, just feels like they care and are going to do amazing job. I also brought my two brothers in two days later the morning of one of their weddings and they got great cuts as well.
They are worth all the five stars. This is not a salon which is one of the reasons I like it.

My 13 year-​old and my husband get their hair cut here. When I used to take them to a salon I would always end up having to shave their necks or fix some of the obvious mistakes. Since we started coming here all of that is unnecessary. If I had to use one word to describe these guys, it would be «meticulous.» The price is reasonable and the service is superb. I appreciate that they never let my husband leave with bushy eyebrows.
We are loyal customers and will always refer business to these guys, although they probably do pretty well on their own.

First rate service in an old fashioned setting. For 2 years since moving to San Diego i could not find a barber shop that consistently cut my hair well. It got to the point where I was cutting my own hair because I was so frustrated. About a year ago I started working in El Cajon and discovered this spot while browsing Unilocal.Best barber shop i’ve ever been to. Great haircut every time and a beer!

All the guys here are awesome. My son has had a haircut from everyone here Jesse, Mike and Paul. All the guys know exactly what they are doing and take their time. You can tell they actually enjoy their work. I totally recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

It doesn’t matter who you see at ducky’s you will get premium service, an awesome cut, and a beer!
I had a hair emergency a few years ago while living in san diego (i pulled a britney spears) it was growing out and looked really bad. Before going the barber shop route i was going to a moderately priced salon getting trendy faux hawks and dye jobs. I decided now that i don’t have enough hair for all that i needed something else. Ducky’s was that something else.
I knew nothing about barber shops. No terminology of what i want. Nothing, but i walked in, was greated by the team, told to sign in and have a seat. And a beer if i wanted. I felt welcomed with open arms into this new world and it felt good.
When it was my turn i sat in the chair and was asked what i wanted. I told him «i don’t know just fix it.» Yup i put all my trust in a man i just meet like 5 minutes ago and for once i wasn’t scared. He got to work fixing my growing out hack job. And in like 10 minutes he gave life to my look. Since then i have never looked back.
I continued to go to ducky’s every time i need to look fresh and clean. And no matter who’s chair I’m in i get the cleanest cut done. And not only is it perfection but it’s done quick so i can get on with the rest of my day feeling awesome.
Unfortunately, now that I’m up in vista i started looking for other spots to get my hair fixed and non of them have compaired. I keep running back to this place even tho it’s almost a 45 minute drive to get to. No one comes close to the clean cuts, amazing fades, customer experience, and over all vibe. I vow from this moment on to never let anyone else touch my hair unless they are closed for good or i move more than an hour away.

I’ve been to many Barber shops and duckys is by far the best traditional Barber Shop in San Diego. Mike had been cutting my hair for about a year and I have never had a problem with the cut or service. Jesse has a great staff they make you feel like you have known them forever. Stop in and get the A+ experience for yourself!

I’ve been to this shop 3 times – making sure my initial impression wasn’t just a fluke. My review is definitely overdue. I really wanted to hold off on doing this, just because I don’t want this place blowing up to the point where I can’t get in at a decent time, but you can’t stop the inevitable.
I’ve had my hair cut 3 times by Jesse, and every single time, this guy has delivered. And it’s in line with everyone else’s review – my girlfriend just LOVES how solid the cut is. The fading technique is solid – the lines are crisp – and the overall appearance of the cut ACTUALLY fits the my face. That was the biggest issue for me when judging barbers/​salons. Whether or not the stylist/​barber can deliver a cut that would benefit their customer.
When discussing haircut styles with Jesse, he’s wasn’t afraid to suggest a certain look, or even tell me if the style I wanted would match my face. It is literally impossible for certain face types to pull off certain hair styles and these barbers recognize that. This skill is only achieved after YEARS of experience.
These barbers aren’t here to just cut hair – they’re here to shape the best you.
One last thing – the barber banter is a plus… you won’t find that in a salon.

I definitely would suggest this barber shop to anyone. I have only been to a couple other barbershops and i don’t claim to be an expert but after my experience at Ducky’s i feel that a certain standard has been set for me personally. I don’t feel like they are catering to a niche, they sincerely want to provide quality haircuts and bring back a atmosphere where grandfathers, fathers and sons can all go to get haircuts and enjoy good company.

Went in a few weeks ago and asked for an executive contour cut. Mike cut my hair and did a really good job! He answered my questions about various haircuts and styles, and gave me exactly what I wanted.
The haircut was not rushed, and the detail was excellent. Especially important to me, on the back of my head the hair was blended nicely from the longer part up top to the lower part where it tapers. The cheaper budget barbershops usually make a mess of that. The sides were tapered nicely, as opposed to the «high & tight» jobs that budget shops seem to do no matter what.

I just got back from getting my hair cut by Tommy. No complaints. Dude did a good job and tightened it up very well. He recommended I taper the back and he really took his time doing it. He finished it off with hot lotion and a straight razor touch-​up. Yup — Im a fan!
I havent had a legit haircut in many years and this was a throwback. The 16 they charge is more than fair. I gave him a 20 and left feeling like I got a good deal. My lady friends seem to like Tommys cut and he was a cool guy to sit 15m for. Offered me a beer and friendly conversation on top of a tight, complete cut.
I’ll be back.

Jon and Tommy are awesome! I drive all the way from Rancho Santa Fe because this is the only place that cuts my hair exactly how I want it in town. They offer a great cut for a great price! I love how Jon takes his time cutting your hair. It’s definitely not a supercuts! This is literally the best place in San Diego!

I took my son to get a trendy new style since he’s growing. No more $ 8 buzz cuts lol. Jon Vidana cut and styled my son’s hair… OMG it turned out so good! The guys made my son feel comfortable. They joked with him and made small talk. I love the memorabilia they have on display, very nice and clean shop. We will continue to come here.

This barber shop is legit! As a new transplant to San Diego I knew that there was a huge selection of awesome barber shops all around the greater San Diego area. But Ducky’s came with high recommendations from Unilocalers as well as other people I ran into. Although I am located in Mission Valley it’s still a short 15 minute drive and it’s well worth it.
$ 16 will get you a nice fresh cut. They are walk-​in only, no appointments. You simply walk in and add your name to the list and they go in order unless you have a preference for a specific barber.
There is sufficient parking in the plaza Ducky’s is located in so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Certainly beats trying to navigate downtown and pay downtown parking prices anyway!
