Wow! The location and outside do not do this amazing restaurant justice! The staff was extremely friendly. Polite. Courteous. Then came the food. So good!!! The kids had the BBQ Chicken pizza. Perfect for two. Delicious. The chicken with jalapeño salsa and cheese was moist and cooked perfectly. Again, delicious. Brisket and ribs were fall off the bone fantastic. Rainbow trout was fresh, light and flavorful. Add to it a minor error in the kitchen and my meal was delayed. The staff was genuinely apologetic and offered me an appetizer, salad of soup to hold me over. I didn’t take them up on it but they brought out s sampler of pickled collie-flower, carrots and different hummus with homemade bread. Again, delicious. Highly recommend!!!

This was an amazing hidden gem in the sleepy town of Eggleston. If you are in the NRV for the weekend or you live here, this is THE stop to go to. You will really not regret it. I can’t wait to go back! My go to restaurant for now on.

This was our group’s first visit. The food was excellent and the presentation was good but I was not wowed. The issues that bothered me was holes in men’s bathroom wall that needed to be repaired and the cracked glass at entrance door gave one the illusion that owners did not care about first impressions. My biggest issue was our waiter… he constantly was at table interrupting group conversations and walking us through the menu choices. He became really bothersome midway through eating. It may be awhile before we give the restaurant a try sgain

My friends and I stumbled upon the Palisades during a weekend spent at Mountain Lake Lodge. This restaurant is definitely in the middle of nowhere(and a good twenty minutes from the Lodge itself) but their Sunday brunch was — IS — more than worth the trip. The coffee is good, you get a free(albeit small) Mimosa with the buffet if you want it, and the food was amazing for the price($ 16.80 per person with tax, at least as of this writing). I assume the buffet isn’t the same every week, but the eggs benedict were great(I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of their Hollandaise sauce) and the potato pancakes, which were really more like some sort of fried ball of deliciousness, were to die for. There were also plenty of gluten-free options, even a chocolate flourless cake for dessert! The setting and décor(it being located in an old general store, but with beautiful fittings that are both rustic and modern) are awesome as well. I’m just hoping to make it back the next time I’m in that area, which is saying something considering that yes, this place is a little out of the way.

I ordered the pork chop with grits. I had never eaten grits before so I was pleasantly surprised. They were delicious. The pork chop was very moist and delicious. Of course, it was too much for me to eat in one setting so I brought it home to enjoy. They have a large number of gluten free items on their menu. The waiter was fabulous — prompt service, kept refilling drinks, answered all of my questions regarding the menu. My husband ordered the Beef Stroganoff, which he said was also very good once he mixed it. Our friends ordered cheese appetizer and supreme pizza. We will definitely be back for another visit.

3.5STARS, but would round up. Kind of a drive to get there but the restaurant has a very interesting space and overlooks the railroad which is quite quaint! Parking might be a minor issue as they have a small lot adjacent that can only fit a few cars; don’t know what the street parking situation is like but I’ve seen people park at the church parking lot and walk down. Anyways, came here the first time for dinner and it was a very solid meal. I had their pork belly and corn bread appetizer; both came out just a tad on the dry side but acceptable. My entrée was their Tex Mex influenced pasta with shrimp and it was alright… a bit of a lot of flavors going on but decent(there were beans, a cheese, and jalepeno but all with an Italian flair and it just BARELY worked). Don’t recall what I had for dessert, if I had anything at all, which likely means it’s not worth writing about. Most recently, we were here for their Valentine’s Day brunch. First, they need to update their website as it lists that the brunch is $ 13.95 when it is actually $ 15.95. The menu was also a bit vague on the mimosas but to be perfectly clear, you get one mimosa that is complimentary and you must pay extra if you want more. The orange juice in my mimosa as a bit stale and it was definitely not the best I’ve had, though others at our table enjoyed theirs. They provide free coffee but not tea and may consider including complimentary tea for non-coffee drinkers. Their selection of foods for the breakfast buffet was very decent, all your staples like bacon and scrambled eggs and sausage, but also some interesting spins like orange and ginger(?) pancakes, potatoes pancakes, and several selection of other meats like ham, chicken, and even eggs Benedict! There however was almost NO fresh fruit which I missed for a lighter fare(they had some sliced grapefruit but nothing else). Adding some homemade granola and yogurt with some fresh fruit would have been great. In any case, it’s a solid restaurant considering it’s in the Blacksburg area! Would definitely come back for dinner if we go back a third time but would skip for something closer by for brunch as it’s not worth the drive.

I absolutely loved the dining experience here on New Years Eve. We arrived at 8:30, and hadn’t reserved a table earlier. However we were greeted with a smile and led to a very nice corner table. The place was crowded, but the seating design didn’t make it feel congested at all. I really loved the décor, which is basically like an old hardware store. Very cool! There was live music and the food was great! Portion sizes were good, and although I have a sweet tooth, I was too full to order dessert :(I would definitely recommend visiting. The drive to the palisades is nice too, although a little too tucked into the mountains… I wish it was closer to Blacksburg…

Very nice, we enjoy the ambience a great deal. Grilled cheese appetizer was excellent. As was dessert. I enjoyed the beef stroganoff a great deal. Location: the very definition of the middle of nowhere. Looking forward to seeing Jeff Willner on the stage.

What a wonderful hidden gem! Great atmosphere transformed from an old hardware store into a lovely dining experience. The chef’s special risotto was delicious. Others enjoyed the trout and rib eye. Clean plates by all. The service good but slow. Charlie was very informative and helpful.

I had an absolutely wonderful dinner experience here with my family. The restaurant is inside an old general store, but it’s a lot larger inside than I was expecting. With old photographs, books and other relics lining the walls, it has a unique vintage charm. There was also live music– a guitarist and violinist duo. They were talented and enjoyable, but also quiet enough that you could carry a conversation at your table without having to raise your voice. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive. There are a lot of specials and he repeated them for us and answered any questions that we had. When we first arrived, he warned us that the food may take a little longer than at other restaurants, but it’s worth it because everything is made fresh to order. He was right about both parts of that statement. We ordered a cheese plate appetizer and enjoyed sampling some unique cheese flavor combinations. For dinner, I had the TV dinner special, which was a meatloaf with sides of mashed potatoes, succotash and a mini pumpkin pie. Everything was great. Just as a head’s up, the parking situation isn’t ideal. We were instructed to drive down a rather steep, gravel hill and then back in to a spot sideways on the hill. It was starting to snow out and a little nerve wracking to get in and out of the spot. Otherwise, the entire experience was exceptional!

The Palisades is a wonderfully incongruous food oasis in the desert-like food scene in southwest Virginia. Despite my two visitors’ initial scoffs at an hour-long wait for a table, they, too, were enchanted by the Palisades by the end of our meal and claimed that it would fare well if transported to Manhattan. The artist-in-residence gallery/shop next door was cozy, kitschy, and a pleasant spot to pass the time. We overheard the woman running the shop as she explained the history of the town as a hub for timber and its rise and fall with the arrival and decline of the local train line. I was taken aback by the casual attire of diners and the unpretentious atmosphere; the food quality could easily lend itself to a more formal atmosphere. I ordered the pear and brie quesadillas to share and they each had the soup-of-the-day. The brie quesadilla was simple yet well-executed. It was crisp and cheesey with ripe pears to balance out the dense brie. The pumpkin jam was an unexpectedly wonderful pairing. My guests’ soup was some kind of vegetable medley and both guests were pleased with the complexity of flavors and spices. I also ordered the apple salad and was very, very happy with the variety of flavors and textures. The pickled apples were delicious, the walnuts clearly very fresh, and the dressing subtle yet flavorful. I wish I could recreate such a salad on my own! The fall spices popcorn samples(flavored with some variety of cinnamon, pepper, etc.) presented before the entrees were delicious and pleasing to the palate. It was a lovely detail that further demonstrates the restaurant’s attention to detail. Pork was heavily represented on the menu so we were somewhat limited in entrée options but still had some dishes to choose from. Perhaps I don’t have as much of an affinity for venison as I thought because I was not blown away by my venison pot roast, but that has maybe more to do with me than the dish itself. The meat and vegetables were tender and the maple dijon cornbread was moist and flavorful. One guest had the featured chicken dish and was very pleased with the entrée. My second guest had the rainbow trout that was simple and delicious with mashed sweet potatoes. For dessert, the three of us shared the chocolate bourbon pecan tart with caramel ice cream and the flourless chocolate cake with chocolate cherry ice cream. Both were incredible; both were gooey and chocolatey, but neither one was cloying. The ice creams were spot-on and could easily stand alone. The service was excellent though our server did seem somewhat harried at times. Perhaps they are understaffed. The décor was rustic and unassuming; the restaurant has wall-to-wall shelves, filled with local antiques and relics, presumably left this way to reflect the building’s previous function as some sort of general store. I would gladly return to The Palisades and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality local meal.

As out of towners, we were brought here by some locals. This place is wonderful. The atmosphere is rustic yet sleek and let’s you feel at home. It was Sunday brunch, which apparently meant buffet. The food was terrific. They had options for breakfast fans and options for lunch fans. The dessert buffet, also, was great. I wouldn’t miss the biscuits and gravy. And the complimentary mimosa was an added perk!

A destination restaurant to be sure. Local food and culture with a great casual vibe and excellent service. Live music weekends and a varied menu that from casual pizza to more upscale and innovative dishes, still unpretentiously rooted in SWVA cuisine(priced unpretentiously too). Wonderful wines and broad selection of beers. Definitely make a reservation if you are going on a weekend. It can get really busy.

We had dinner at The Palisades to celebrate a very special day. The day before, we made a reservation for 8pm. We arrived a little early and we were seated immediately even though the restaurant was packed. The service was fantastic from start to finish. We both ordered drinks to start and also the Hummus Trio(highly recommended) to start. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye and I ordered the pork chop. We were both very pleased. The pork chop was probably one of the best that I’ve ever had. We will return in the near future for sure!

Finally traveled over the river and through the woods for dinner at Palisades, it was well worth the trip. We were a party of four and got seated in 20 minutes without a reservation after a short trip to the bar for some beers. The bartender appeared very busy but did manage to get us our drinks after a few fast passes. Once seated we had a bruschetta app which was very good. Two people had soup and salad which were both awesome, the shaved Brussels sprout salad was the best. I personally enjoyed the rabbit which was cooked perfect. We liked the food and ambiance so much we came back 2 days later for pizza and salads at the bar with beers. Their local selection of beers is quite nice and the live 40’s string band music was top notch their name was Pig Pen from New Orleans.

This is literally as good as it gets. Man oh man, do I miss The Palisades. The food is innovative and absolutely delicious, atmosphere classy without overdoing it, and service impeccable. The ingredients are all of the highest quality and the flavors offered are truly unique. They do an amazing job of showcasing the local culture/keeping the SWVA charm as well. I love that their menu rotates and wish I lived closer so I could celebrate all my special times there!
