Not what you’d expect from a Mike Shannon restaurant. The staff wear jeans and seem not to focus on service or accuracy. They do wander around a lot. I’ve been twice in the last year and experienced similar service. When you spend over $ 100 for dinner for three, you expect a level of service that just is not found in the Edwardsville location. From my waitress spilling water on our table no less than four times and not thinking to wipe it up. Or our waiter taking 20 minutes to bring up a second bottle. From our food coming out not as we requested to errors on our bill. just not what I had come to expect having been a downtown customer.

We decided to go here to celebrate my son’s graduation. We had a party of 7. First, two servers both thought they were helping us. I asked for a gluten-free menu from one of the servers. It never came. Had to ask the 2nd server. Our food came. They brought out all but one person’s meal. It took an additional 10 minutes for that meal to arrive. In the mean time, I tasted my gluten-free scallops. I nearly gagged from the overwhelming taste of vinegar. Seriously, I’ve had to drink straight vinegar before and the taste of the scallops was not much different. When the waiter came back with the meal of the person who had been waiting, I told him about the horrible scallops. He said he would rush a new entrée for me. I received my entrée AFTER he cleared plates for the other diners in my party. We went there expecting a nice experience. The food was not great. The service was so-so at best, but leaned towards inept. I will not go back.

Service was great. Food was mediocre, especially for the price. I liked the wings, but was disappointed by the burger and omelette. Too many other good places to eat.

I’m not big on sports memorabilia-themed restaurants, but this is very tastefully done, with lots of dark wood and interesting displays. They were not busy, so we were seated quickly, and had a pleasant, attentive server. I ordered a burger, medium well, without the thousand island dressing. It arrived slathered in… thousand island dressing. While it was being replaced, we enjoyed the generous serving of onion rings. I also ate the roasted potato salad, a blend of sweet potato and regular potatoes… very tasty. My burger arrived, and was NOT medium well, but medium rare. I was pretty full by that time so ate a few bites from the edges and handed it off to hubby to finish. He had the crab cake sandwich, which was very good. We were having trouble with the sun shining in our eyes, so the server stood on the bench behind me to pull them down. Hey, Mike, how about springing for some remotes for those shades? I’d hate for the server to fall, possibly on a customer, and who wants to sit on what they’ve been walking in? I would go again, but hope they work on actually getting orders right the first time. This is too upscale a place to be making such mistakes.

I keep hoping that the Grill will eventually match the quality of the original restaurant. While it is better, they just don’t live up to expectations. I was told 10 minutes after I ordered that they were out of what I had ordered, and when I finally reordered I asked for asparagus instead if fries. I revived 4 small stalks of the vegetable. Really? They also took one of the few non-beef entrees off the menu, which was actually very good. Maybe one more shot or just drinks, but do not expect anywhere near the same quality or service as downtown.

I was worried to go just based on the reviews. However, upon entering for lunch Saturday 6−20−15, we were pleasantly welcomed by our server. She was very thorough with descriptions of the food and drinks, likes and dislikes. Food prices for sandwiches are very typical and comparable to say O’Charly’s, Red Robin, or any other chain. I was again surprised. We opted for the Pulled Pork Chorizo nachos to start and white sangria. Pork nachos were way better than expected since we’re Mexican purists. An-dah-lay Grigos! Nachos were well layered with I believe a few melted cheeses, shredded pork, and these pickled candied jalapenos that are to die for. I didn’t notice any taste or site of the chorizo. However, please ask for extra jalapenos on everything not just your nachos. Waitress said they are made in house and many veggies during the summer months are grown outside their back door at the restaurant. Other options we had were the ½ sandwich ½ salad combo for a standard $ 9.95 I had the Buffalo chicken and greek salad. Nothing special but the chicken was very tender and the buffalo sauce was hot and sour but good. Greek salad was tart and fresh; great for summer hot day. Other option was the chicken pesto and king cobb salad with green goddess dressing. Pesto was outstanding, tender and just the right amount of flavor. Green goddess dressing is a aromatic herb-ee ranch dressing. I like that it’s a lil more runnier than a thick ranch. We finished off with the upside down apple pie $ 6. Get back baby get back for this dessert! Holy shit do not leave with out getting this! It’s big enough for 2 people, don’t be scared by walnuts. I hate them, but didn’t taste them at all with the lovely caramel, fresh perfectly cinnamon-ed applies topped with a thick crème brûlée like brown sugar coating. Yah and it’s served with a side of vanilla ice cream! Bottom line, all flavors were good and not overwhelming. Quality of food was above standard. Service was impeccable. I left happy happy and surprised by the previous reviews. We ate in the bar which was nice and upscale casual. I would feel comfortable in almost any attire but not sweatpants.

By far the worst steakhouse ever. Steak was cold when it came out. Seems like the steaks was already made before we even ordered it. I rather have a steak at Denny’s at least they cook to order. First and last time.

We had high hopes for this place. Made reservations online and still had to wait a half hour before we were seated. We were seated in the bar area and the walking room between the bar and table are pretty tight… So much so, another customer walked by, knocked a beer sitting on our table and it went all over us. We were told by the wait staff that it happens all the time. Really? Drinks were good. Well mixed. Good balance. The food however was nothing to write home(or a good Unilocal review) about. I got the jumbo scallops… The plate arrived with 3 scallops and a heaping mess of some potatoe purée/mush. The scallops were far from«jumbo». They were somewhere in between quarter and half dollar size. Hardly worth 20 dollars.

Shannon’s a fav spot with my family. Mom and dad appreciate a well crafted cocktail. Kids appreciate the pint sized steak or shrimp dinners. Very tasty burgers. I’ve not strayed to far on the menu, but everything I’ve seen looks good. The service is prompt and attentive, the room inviting. Excellent spot for celebratory family dinner or a date.

Ok food worst service at the bar ever. Not keen on eyes being rolled after waiting 30 minutes of water. For the price the service should be better, especially at the bar. Two stars is being kind. Oh well not going to last much longer.

Mike Shannon’s Edwardsville is like a local St. Louis Planet Hollywood. I am pretty sure you go to look at the cool memorabilia and not for the over-priced mediocre food. For beers, instead of carrying the amazing local craft beer selection that we have available to us here in STL, they really only have AB and it’s affiliates. I had a Cajun pasta with chicken, which was sitting in a watery(I am serious) sauce. On another visit, I had fish tacos. They were okay, but lacked flavor, and were $ 12 something with no sides. Now, I didn’t have the steak which is their claim to fame, so maybe that is better… The atmosphere is very high scale and service is good. But I do not believe Mike Shannon’s Edwardsville is worth the money you pay for the poor quality food.

DISAPPOINTING&OVERPRICED So my girlfriend & I decided to try out the new Mike Shannon’s on a Saturday night. I will say the building and décor is nice. But there were quite a few problems. First, when it’s 15 degrees outside, close the outer door so that the people waiting 45 minutes for a table don’t freeze every time someone goes in or out. Also, when we were finally sat, they put us at a table in the bar area. I assumed that, like most restaurants, when you wait for a table it’s for the dining area. The bar portion is nice, but still a bar. Plus our table was constantly being bumped into by servers & patrons trying to get past the crowd of people there just to have a drink. The waitress was pleasant, but would disappear for 15 minutes at a time. They bring room temperature tap water in a fancy bottle and give it to you with no ice. The menu is pseudo-cajun and overpriced. I got the half a roast chicken on top of mashed potatos(it doesn’t come with any vegetable) for $ 20. My chicken was extremely overcooked & dry as sawdust. My girlfriend got the cajun pasta with chicken($ 19). It was ok, but there was hardly any chicken in it. The large ceaser salad that we split($ 9) was uninteresting at best. The upside down apple pie was pretty good, though. Overall we spent 2 hours & $ 72(with tip) for a very disappointing meal in a very loud environment. If you’re looking for somewhere to have a nice dinner, go somewhere else. If you want to have a drink in a nice building full of baseballs, maybe give it a shot.

I finally found paradise on Earth! Excellent food! I had the Shannon burger, & a small cole slaw. All their burgers & sandwiches come w/fries. My son had the Cajun Shrimp & sweet potato fries. The staff is friendly & helpful. I honestly had my best birthday in many, many yrs. Big Steve highly recomends this fine establishment for a quality dining experience! We went to their new Edwardsville, Il. location… Thanks to all for making my birthday special. I loved it!!!

Finally ate supper here. The food was(for the most part) very good. They still need to up their game on service. Not bad, but a little more attention would be good from the servers. I had the pork loin and it might have been the best I’ve ever had. The rissotto was a bit strange — vinegary or something. The server said it might have been made with beer which would explain the tasted. Wasn’t sure if I liked it or not. The wife was happy with her salad and steak.

After my last review, I received a letter from a higher-up. It addressed my review individually, attempting to address my low level of satisfaction. I appreciated the personal touch and genuine concern. That’s not why I’ve upped my rating, though it does contribute. I upped my rating because Mike Shannon’s Grill is tweaking their menu bit by bit to make it tastier and more customer friendly. Last Saturday I saw some drastic menu changes, tried one of the new dishes, and was surprised at how delicious it was. Definitely a change for the better. Also, the service is STILL great. I’ll be going back.

Apparently this Mike Shannon guy likes baseball. If you do too, this place’s abundant sports décor will please you, although there are various signs of a sense of economy in construction — a plain concrete floor throughout, barnlike acoustics, economical finish on the wood paneling, and a dire shortage of restroom facilities, for example. I loved the drinks but the TVs all over the place were distracting. Big, bright TVs and sports memorabilia are fine but they tend to lower a place down to sports bar status — the menu, beers and cocktails here are a notch above that. Bias alert: I couldn’t care less about the Cardinals, or major league baseball, or any sport for that matter, so I am totally oblivious to all the busy, busy sports décor. Prices are accordingly highish for a sports bar, but beer selection is also great with many smaller brands(though these days, they certainly could be owned by giant breweries like AB-InBev, so I don’t think«microbrew» is necessarily a fitting term). Regardless you won’t be stuck with a choice between Bud Light and plain Bud here. If you would like to try something different, have a Pimm’s Cup or a French 75 for a taste of Europe you won’t find in any other sports bar. Here’s a tip — there are a few parking spaces in front of Goddard School over to the left of Shannon’s that are often open because people see they are reserved, but don’t bother to read the reserved status is only for weekdays before 6 pm. Enjoy!

Food allergies? Never let your guard down. That’s the moral of tonight’s meal. We stopped at Mike Shannon’s Edwardsville, an elegant-looking place in a plaza along an otherwise wooded parkway south of downtown. It was a busy night, so my son and I were pleased to be seated after a 35-minute wait in a booth that would have seated six comfortably. The wait had given us opportunity to get acquainted with the menu, and ask questions at the host station about gluten-free choices for the 23-year-old boy, who has inherited his mother’s celiac disease(you know, «when from your diet you must delete all forms of barley, rye, and wheat»). Upon seating, we made our server aware of the need for gluten-free selections for him. The menu listed a gluten-free pale ale by Widmer Brothers, so our drink order included one of those. When the bottle came, we looked at it a moment or two before realizing it was not labeled gluten-free. We suspected a mistake. Sure enough, a little smart phone research showed the gluten-free version of WB pale ale is called«Omission,» and the one on the table was«Drifter.» Within ten minutes, we’d spoken to the server, consulted the bar, and the mistake was corrected. Then, having negotiated the menu, and overcome our customary gluten-free challenge for the evening, we relaxed and started soaking in the basketball game on the TV, and all the fun sports memorabilia on the walls, which looks every bit as abundant as the original location. When the boy’s Fish Tacos arrived, he dug in, while I paid attention to my Poached Pear and Chicken Salad. About three-fourths of the way through the first taco, he started wondering whether the soft shell was actually corn, as listed on the menu. I tasted, we eventually got the attention of the server, and discovered that flour tortillas had been substituted. Why it happened is a mystery to me. A new plate was delivered to the table with CORN tortillas, so it wasn’t a case of the kitchen being out of corn tortillas We received an apology from the shift manager Kelly, and I was not charged for the fish tacos or the gluten-free beer, which will provide some small comfort while the autoimmune response is kicking in and damaging the colon for the next few days/weeks. Now, if you’re going to Mike Shannon’s for the sports memorabilia, or because you love the Cardinals like we do, and there are no food allergies in your group(or you’re too tough to believe there’s one) then you may not be concerned about a review like mine. But if you and I had enough time, then I think I could convince you that you should be. Mistakes like the ones tonight may tell you something about A.) the training of the servers, and how well they understand the food and drinks that they’re serving; and B.) the integrity of the menu, and whether what is coming out of the bar/kitchen matches what you’ve ordered. Or, maybe tonight’s misfortune was just the inevitable consequence of poor timing, showing up as we did during the finale to a busy and successful weekend at MSG, when the staff was perhaps tired and certainly inattentive, and I was a grumpy old guy who needed to have eaten dinner before 7:30PM.

I’ve been looking forward to trying Mike Shannon’s for a while, but I think my boyfriend was a bit hesitant because the one in STL is a bit out of our price range for now. After convincing him that this one was not as expensive, we finally got around to going last week. Food gets five stars. Everything we had was excellent. He had a greek island salad and the roast chicken, I had a cobb salad and the salmon. Everything tasted excellent and the salads were much larger than I had expected for side salads. I liked that our server informed us upon ordering that my boyfriends roast chicken was had about a 30 minute prep/cook time. We weren’t in any hurry, but had we been, I like that he mentioned it to make sure that it would be alright as soon as we ordered. The server was friendly enough, but rather absent. Took a bit longer than it should have to get our check. Overall though, I enjoyed the experience, and I’ll definitely be back.
