Could be cleaner. The bottle of bleach solution on the counter is a real turn off. Food is barely passable but the service is dreadful. Counter people who do not listen and have a little bit of ‘tude to boot. I remember now why we have not been here for a long time.

I must go down to the sea again … But since I’m hundreds of miles from the nearest saltwater, I’ll have to settle for Captain D’s. I’ve passed this place by for nearly ten years. Recent reports of seniors congregating here prompted my visit. If old guys who run fish fries eat here, then the fish can’t be all bad. And, as I discovered, the three-piece meal was A-OK. When I looked at the sides, my anti-broccoli defenses overreacted by ordering the extra 29-cents«premium» macaroni and cheese. Turns out I can’t even SEE a portion of broccoli without wanting some cheese to cover my flavor memory. I should have tried something else: the macaronis were wimpy, and the«cheese» like the stuff you get out of a box. Stay away from the broccoli AND the mac-&-cheese, and you’ll be fine.

I’m not a big fan of Captain D’s food but they do a good job and you get what you pay for. In all honesty, I think Long John Silver’s has slightly better food but Captain D’s is ahead when it comes to cleanliness and ambiance. Went last night because I didn’t feel like driving to the closest LJS from Edwardsville but was hungry for fish. I’ll give the food a C+. But it was hot and fresh, server was very pleasent and dining room was mostly clean.
