Sadly, Blue Nile has closed. I am extremely bummed over this. It was a wonderful restaurant and I loved going there.

A-OK, that’s how I would describe this restaurant. This was my second experience with Ethiopian food. For the prices, I felt that the portions were small. We got the vegetarian and meat samplers. We were told the food would be spicy but that wasn’t the case at all. It was fairly mild. Spices on the food was decent. Lighting in the restaurant was dark. So dark that I had to use a cell phone’s light to read the menu. It was a cozy and quiet place. There was one employee running the whole dining room. Only three tables were occupied so she wasn’t too busy. That also meant she lingered around us a lot. We had to send her away twice since we were still looking at the menu. My dining experience here was alright. I wouldn’t make a special trip all the way to Edmond to dine here again though.

If I could give this place 500 stars I would. The office where I work is moving to Edmond so today, while visiting the new office building, I decided to get on Unilocal to find a place to eat lunch in the vicinity. That is when I found Blue Nile and my life is forever changed. I have had Ethiopian food once in Austin, TX but this place blows Aster’s in ATX out of the water AND it was reasonably priced! The inside is warm and welcoming and our waitress was very helpful. We ordered the vegetarian sampler and the meten shuro wat, which also came with a fresh salad like I’ve never tasted before. The flat bread, known as injera, is like a spongy pancake with which you are supposed to use as your eating utensil. So basically you eat with your hands. Hell yes. Seriously, this review is ridiculous because words cannot describe how amazing this place is. The food is so unique and it is FRESH but made with love so it doesn’t necessarily come out quickly. Patience is a virtue. Sad day, though: we were the only people in the restaurant and I don’t understand why because it is amazing. Please do yourself a favor, even if you have to drive across the world to get to the restaurant, eat at Blue Nile. If you don’t, you obviously have no soul.

We were hoping to be served in a big platter of injera… but were instead presented with individual plates. It’s more fun to share the big platter! I hope they reconsider that. But the food was good, and I’d visit them again! Also, I wish the coffee was always available in the traditional ethiopian manner, instead of just during the pricey table presentation service. Ethiopian coffee is unbelievable great, but not when prepared in an electric Bunn maker.

This place is GREAT! if you havent tried Ethiopian before, do it and dont be afraid to take your kids, they will love it too AND they can use there hands and its all ok! We have different things there, the beef, lamb, lentils, potato vege dish. All the different types of dishes make for great and interesting tastes to your usual meats and vege dishes, its GREAT. Our 4 year old always says, Mum, i love this place and the food is so yummy. She loves it because she gets to wrap all her food up in the yummy pancake and eat it and not use her utensils and so do we. Honestly, try this it and PLEASE lets support this place so we keep it here. And the owners are wonderful and are doing there best to get your food out on time and tasting amazing. GOTODAY!

What?!? Ethiopian food in Edmond? NOWAY! Yes way. But, bad news. It’s good not great. A little competition would do this place good — there aren’t a lot of other restaurants to compare it too, which pushes the novelty factor higher though it doesn’t improve the food quality. Our dishes were lukewarm and the seasonings were… meh? It was kind of forgettable. The service was awkward, but this will probably get better with time since I think they’re still learning the basics of food service. I was not impressed with the Sambussa — flavor was just barely detectable. The Yebeg Tibs Lamb was not great, but not bad either: I can get as excited about it as I can about oatmeal with cinnamon and nuts in it. Overall, an interesting place if you’re looking to try a different kind of food, but you might be better off going somewhere else if you’re looking for flavors that pop.

This is a wonderful Ethiopian restaurant, and a jewel to have in Edmond! First, as soon as we arrived, the woman I presume to be the owner greeted us and she was very sweet throughout our meal. Our waitress was also knowledgeable and personable, and I was very pleased with the service.(I will admit that they seemed to get a bit flustered as the dining room filled and only two of them tried to help everyone, but everything got done correctly. I think we in America have started to forget that dining out should take time; it should be a celebration of food, and need not be accomplished in 30 minutes or less.) As for the food, our waitress told us that the owner, in addition to being Ethiopian, is also a nutritionist and tries to use healthy, organic ingredients. We agreed that you could tell that the ingredients were high quality. I have eaten at a number of Ethiopian restaurants across the US, and this was as good as any of them. I especially loved the key wat. The tea and dessert were also excellent. Finally, I had read some review that complained that they did not accept their Groupon. if it is the same coupon that I saw on Groupon, it was for the OKC location, and clearly NOT for this location. The fact that they did accept Groupons from several people on Saturday night while I was there is, therefore, something that they are doing out of kindness and not out of necessity. I apologize if I am wrong and there was a different Groupon that was for this location, but to the best of my knowledge, those who complain about their coupons not being accepted here missed the fact that they actually were not even valid here. Overall, we had a fantastic meal here, and I am so happy that Edmond has a restaurant like Blue Nile.

It is always nice to try something different and for my 30th birthday this is where I chose to go. The food was good the atmosphere was not amazing but contrary to some reviews I found on another site we were served very well and even though the manager did not speak great English he did his best to answer questions about the food when I asked him. I will go back one of these days but i did not think it was a go out of your way restaurant still I think it deserves 4 stars.

Great food! The owner is super nice, he greeted us, explained the entrees. He also told us about his path to the USA, which was moving. Food was great. I love the iced tea, too. Prices great. My only question is why not be open by 11 on Sunday? We went by today to eat at 1120 and they turned us away-so we walked down the sidewalk to nearby restaurant, Zen, spent $ 35 there, instead, which is likewise a great place. Ate here again for lunch on Sunday, Feb 25th. I had a lamb stew dish that was really great. Spicy. A wee bit small for a man’s appetite, though. I usually cannot eat my entrée, give part of it to my husband, but this really left me wanting a little more. They probably should increase the portion size a little. And I am definitely not the Western Sizzlin’ buffet type patron, so I don’t expect mammoth portions.

Great for vegetarians — perhaps vegans too — they advertise«We use vegetable oil(or olive oil). No butter, no eggs, no milk and no honey.» Only the second time to eat Ethiopian for the two of us — we liked this restaurant better than our first experience. The bread was much more palatable and the seasonings were milder. For $ 15 + tax & tip, our appetite was satisfied. We split the Lentil Sambusa appetizer and the Vegetarian Sampler(6 entrees) w/a house salad. It was a slow weekday evening and the service was great. The sampler had 1) boiled cabbage w/carrots, 2) Kale w/green pepper, 3) red lentils in red berbere sauce w/flaxseed sauce on the side, 4) split peas, 5) beets w/potatoes and 6) chickpea porridge(substituting for the string green beans which they were out of) — all 6 above also had onions, garlic & ginger.

My wife and I checked this place out and really liked it. We had only eaten Ethiopian once before and thought it was a neat experience but we did not like the food at all that was at a different place. So try something twice we always say and we gave Ethiopian a go with a visit to Blue Nile in Edmond. The food was GREAT! We had the chicken and beef appetizer Sambussa the beef was seasoned very well we loved it the chicken was ok, but get the beef much better flavor. We had the v6 Kik Alitcha(a chick pea vegetarian dish) this was so good, I’m not usually a vegetarian orderer but I would get this again it was perfectly seasoned. We also ordered L4 Yebeg Tibs Spicy(Lamb with spices and salad it can be cooked 3 different ways I chose spicy), great lamb not chewy at all, spicy and the bell peppers and salad that came with the dish were great. We loved our visit and will defiantly come again. Service was good also, but we were on the early side of the crowd… it was much busier when we left than when we arrived. Note for those of you that don’t know Ethiopian is traditionally eaten without utensils using this type of spongy bread to grab your food, but this place has silverware available for those that are not ready to go the traditional route.

When trying a restaurant for the first time I walk in optimistic about the service, especially if the place is touted to be «family owned». We were met at the door promptly, menu’s and our drinks came quickly after(the hot tea is pheeenom’). He was knowledgeable about the menu and helped out with our selections. Appetizer sampler was great. But the freshness and appearance of the entrees was«outta the ball park.» Not only is Blue Nile affordable but the portions are large — please, please keep it that way!!! The owner was nice enough to explain how the bread is made and also the cottage cheeze. Do so hope this place is a success as Edmond needs something far«from the norm.»
