Luz may look nice and pretty inside, but the stylist I had was terrible and not anywhere near worth the $ 80 I spent. I went in for a drastic change — I wanted to cut off about 9 inches of my hair. In the middle of cutting my hair, the stylist said«oops…» and when I asked what happened, he said he cut my hair at the wrong angle. He tried to fix it, but I ended up with a haircut that I could have gotten at Supercuts for a quarter of the price I spent. I actually didn’t think my haircut was that bad until I went in for my next haircut(of course at a different salon) and the hairstylist asked me where I got it cut because it was so bad! Apparently this salon used to have good stylists but I from what I have heard they have all left. Spare yourself and do not go to this salon.

I’ve been going to Luz for the past year and it has always been clean, consistent and priced right. A haircut for a guy cost about $ 35, whereas other place charge upwards of $ 55+ for the same quality cut. Lia still works there, I just got a trim this weekend.

Let’s start with the good, then I’ll go into justifying my rating. The facility is very nice, chic, and contemporary. All the makings of a good aesthetics for a modern salon. The atmosphere is good, friendly, and warm. The stylist were equally great. I had a nice stylist cut and style my hair. On the second visit she and another worked on my hair. It seems that all the stylist follow an unconventional way of cutting hair. Now, this maybe popular among Korean and Japanese salons but it’s one that I’m unfamiliar with and ultimately did not work for me, my hair, and my preferred way to coif my locks. They start with washing your hair and drying it. Then they flat iron it until it is pin straight. This is the part that gave me anxiety. I have thin hair that is already pin straight and I’m just not used to seeing my hair so flat and stuck to my skull. I looked like Morticia Adams. From there they start cutting. Even after I said to the stylist I like body and height, she can only give it a little lift at the roots but it was still pin straight. Again, this style just doesn’t work for me. If you have curly hair and want pin straight hair, this is the place for you. But if you want full body and borderline Jersey big hair — you might consider another salon.
