Definitely had better Katsu elsewhere in NY, but good for food court standards. The lack of customer service/friendliness was so sub-par, it was amusing. Me: «Hello!» (3 secs go by…) Attendant: «…blink…» Me: «One Berkshire pork katsu please…» Attendant: «…» hands receipt Perhaps I will try the katsu from one of the other places in the food court.

My second favorite spot in Mitsuwa Marketplace. I always order the fried chicken combo. As you can see, this place gives you a bang for your buck.

My second favorite place to go in Mitsuwa following Santouka Ramen. It’s always such a dilemma to decide what to order in mitsuwa but Katsuhama made my top two. They specialize in Katsu and I think they are much better than Katsuhama in Manhattan. Yes the Katsu is high quality but come on, how can you really mess up deep fried pork! In the weekends, they have the seafood platter with fish, shrimp and oysters! The condiments made the meal for me. It comes standard with this shaved cabbage to negate the deep fried items. The soup is so much better than miso. All you can squeeze sauces(tonkatsu, sesame and salad dressing).

I go to Mitsuwa hundred times I think. After I try all the food court there, I have become a big fan of Katsuhana. I usually like fried food. And I like Japanese food. This is the perfect combination.

3.5 Huge Katsu portions from the pork cutlets to the big a$$ pieces of shrimp tempura. The croquettes contain huge fillings as well. You shouldn’t spend more than $ 10 per order. Totally worth it. The sauces are ok but you can get extra sauces on the side. I recently had the curry katsu but didn’t really like it. It was watery and not as good as other places where I’ve had curry. Plus for some reason it didn’t mix well with the cabbage. Everything else though is bomb. The white rice is always hot and cooked to perfection and the little cup of soup with vegetables is a good pallet cleanser to the fried pieces of meat. This is #2 on my list of what to eat in Mitsuwa. My #1 is the Ramen joint.

Don’t really like the food there. It was too crispy that actually hurt my month. Flavor is bland as well.

I had the curry pork cutlet, which is good, come with soup and tofu, worth the money($ 8.5).

Great katsu. Huge portions for a decent price. The katsu is crispy and tastes great with the curry, although the curry is a bit watery. It also comes with a small scoop of these cheesy mashed potato type thing. Love katsu curry so much!

I went hoping to get the fried pork, but it was sold out. I settled on teriyaki chicken #52 and was pleasantly surprised. Hands down the best teriyaki ever. Not a syrupy mess like most, it had a depth of flavor, crispy skin, and decadently rich. I sprinkled a generous amount of chili herb powder that was available. I told my wife i would leave her for this chicken. She tasted it and understood. Miso soup was good, tofu ok but not my thing, seaweed awesome. Side of cabbage and rice was also great. Pickles were delicious. Small side of fruit to have afterwards. All this for $ 7.50! Really unbelievably delicious at the price of a disgusting McDonalds combo meal. My wife got the panko breaded shrimp, also amazing.

I love the Berkshire pork tenderloin katsu. The pork tastes like what pork should taste like, unlike the bland stuff you normally get. The cutlet is perfectly cooked, crispy and not greasy at all. I like to get the large combo which comes with soup made from real stock, rice, tofu with scallion and soy sauce, shredded cabbage salad, a scoop of potato salad and some mandarin oranges, all for $ 12. You can’t beat the price and quality of food. I also love the fact that although this place is in a food court, they serve their food in real dishes and bowls.

I was sorta full after my large bowl of ramen. But I decided to get the pork cutlets combo. The pork was smaller than the pics I noticed on the Unilocal app. Overall, I like the meal because it comes with cabbage salad and soup. I can swim in the dressing for the salad if I learn how to swim.

Got Katsu? It’s quality Japanese fast food, at reasonable prices, and saves you from the trouble of frying them yourself at home. The katsu at many Chinese owned Japanese dives make these soggy or over fried. This is done up where it’s crispy on the outside and still juicy goodness on the inside. The platters are all under $ 10, and if you need some help in choosing what you want to eat, just browse the wax replicas of what you get via the display window. Don’t think of Japanese fast food as American fast food. It may take about five minutes for your order to come out from the point of ordering it, but it’s a full platter meal that feels wholesome and has cultural flare. The meals may not necessarily fill you, but it will usually hit the spot for those craving fried, but not oily goodness. This establishment does not take credit, so best dig deep behind your couch, and through that pocket lint to find some coin.

Been coming here for years and the deep fried goodness is as good as I remember. Berkshire pork katsu is the best but the croquettes are what makes me keep ordering here instead of Santoku Ramen a few stalls down.

As the name suggests, this place offers katsu plates. The prices are very reasonable — mostly under $ 10. The katsu served next to shredded cabbage and on the side, you get pickle radish, a bit of potato salad, and tonjiru — a pork and vegetable miso flavored soup. That is nice addition instead of the standard miso soup almost all places serve. I had the chicken katsu from here. It had good breading and my order came out rapidly. You get a small side of tonkatsu sauce with the katsu, but there is a bottle of sauce at the counter as well. It was fresh and a very filling meal.

I’ve had better, but it’s good way to get your fix for katsu. I think the portions are rather small for the price, and I’m not sure what the difference is between some of the dishes. I do like their small side dishes that they give with the tray: pickled radish, soft tofu, and mandarins. There’s really not a way to gauge service, so that’s N/A in this case. The 3 stars is just based on their food. I’ll still go to Katsuhana because it’s one of the few places I can get katsu, but I’m sure there are better places to get it.

In Japan chicken Katsu is white meat chicken. Here they only serve white meat chicken which is authentic. However in Japan it is mostly pork Katsu, chicken is not as popular.(see the web site) It is a bargain for the price it is good and authentic. But if you only have time to eat one meal at Mitsuwa I would suggest the Ramen.

I absolutely love this place! Everytime I go to Mitsuwa, I have to eat their Katsu. The price is somewhat expensive for a place in a food court but I can’t complain because the food is so so good. They are always consistent: the moderate thickness of the meat and the lightness of their deepfry. I have tried their Tonkatsu and Ebi-fry and this place has never dissapointed me.
Sure if you go to NYC, you probably find better Katsu place. But this place is in a food court of a Japanese supermarket in NJ, and the price range is from $ 8-$ 13. You can’t beat this price for this quality in NYC.
