First time in Eau Claire and I had to try a Mediterranean restaurant. The lunch special was great. For $ 8 you get a massive gyro fries and a drink. The atmosphere was an open concept allowing us to watch the kitchen make the food. It is also connected to a grocery store which was interesting to look around for a minute while the food was made. The seating is a bit limited to about 10 tables. The food was delicious and a big portion size compared to my favorite gyro place in Omaha. A lot of meat and I’m not complaining. Highly recommend coming in for the lunch special from 11 – 2 because the deal is unbeatable at $ 5 a sandwich!

I was excited to come here after reading so many positive reviews but was disappointed. I ordered a gyro and cheese curds. The gyro was $ 8 and was gigantic. It could feed two people. It was tasty, but I think I prefer Olympic Flame’s gyro slightly more. On the other hand, the cheese curds were fast food quality and burnt.

We were in Eau Claire for a music festival and every restaurant in downtown was completely overwhelmed for lunch service. Simple solution, we grabbed a beer at a nearby bar, ordered from Water Street Deli online who confirmed when pick up would be ready, and in 30 minutes we had gyros and cheese curds ready to pick up and take back to our hotel. There is a small seating area in the front too. The portions were huge and prices reasonable.

My guess is that the owners are walking a fine line between appeasing rural Wisconsin pallets, and staying true to the flavors of their roots. Judging by the comments it seems people enjoy the overly bland falafel and hummus. Whereas my experience with the foods of Turkey, Armenia, Lebanon, etc are that they are prepared with fresh parsley, mint, lemon, tahini, cumin and an abundance of garlic — none of which I experienced at Water Street Deli. I have no doubt that the owners cook with a lot more spice and flavors at home and it is sad to see that they don’t bring those flavors to their restaurant. I found the falafel wrap to be extremely bland and couldn’t distinguish between the hummus and the falafel(with regards to flavor) which is too bad as I am certain everything was homemade and much time was spent preparing the ingredients.

My wife and I tried this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago and loved it. We both had the gyro combo plate. It was great, tasted so good. Lots of food and reasonably priced. Will be back again and again and again…

Food was good but the dinning area was so cold. My fingers went numb while eating:)) please warm the place up. And also its pricy for what u take! Pita bread 4 dollars! It should be 2 $ like everywhere!

Delicious and inexpensive! I had the combo platter for lunch the other day, and oh man, was it good. My wife had the gyro, and it was quite tasty too. We’ll definitely be back! Their pitas are the large, thin variety, similar to what I remember from our trip to Istanbul. There is a small grocery in the back which carries imported items such as spices, canned goods, frozen pitas, etc. Orange blossom water!

Whenever I visit Eau Claire, making a stop at Water Street Deli is a priority. Their food is always incredibly fresh, well-seasoned, and well-presented. My favorite is the chicken kebab plate($ 9.99) especially for the chicken-it’s incredibly juicy with the perfect amount of spices. The plate comes with a cup of lemony rice, warm pita bread, a delicious salad with tomatoes, onions, parsley, and romaine lettuce, and your choice of sauce. If you love garlic, spring for the homemade garlic sauce. Just a little ketchup cup of it has me tasting garlic all day. So good. The pepper sauce is extremely hot, the lemon is mellow, and you can’t go wrong with hummus. I’ve also enjoyed the gyro, falafel, beef kebabs, the fish sandwich, and the thin, seasoned, irresistible fries. The owner, Sam, is a really nice guy, and sometimes he gives my boyfriend and I a little plate of baba ghanoush or hummus to try. The décor is simple, but who cares? I’m here for some of the freshest food in Eau Claire. If he’d add homemade baklava to the menu, I might never leave. Bottom line: some of the best, freshest food in Eau Claire, for a decent price. Nothing is over $ 10. Update: they have homemade baklava now, for real. It’s definitely worth your time.

Definitely the best Mediterranean in Eau Claire. Good prices, the owner is really friendly also. The inside isn’t fantastic, but it’s what you would expect. The fries have excellent seasoning, worth the extra dollar. Recommend the gyro plate and the philly sandwich. Also, better prices on shisha than the store next door.

This is the only place in Eau Claire to get falafel and I’m glad it’s around. Water Street Deli is an inexpensive, fast little dining spot and convenience store(with many Middle Eastern imports such as spices and tea) that offers some food variety in a town otherwise devoid of many vegan options. I had a falafel sandwich($ 6) which consisted of five or six falafel pieces, lettuce, tomato, onions and green peppers in a thin, tortilla-esque wrap. The wrap was light and sort of flaky-fluffy and though it was white flour, I liked that it wasn’t as heavy as a piece of pita. The sandwich on a whole was decent, but not great. They didn’t put any tahini on it, presumably because their version contains dairy, so it felt like it was missing something. That said, the tomatoes and onions added a good level of moisture and prevented the sandwich from being dry. The falafel pieces had good texture(crispy on the outside, soft on the inside) though not too much flavor in themselves. They could have used more herbs. I’m looking forward to returning to try their hummus and baba ganouje. Eau Claire needs more places like this.
