I’ve been to way too many Dollar General stores. They seem to be popping up almost everywhere I go. In this case, this is the second store in Eaton to be replaced with a newer store. Being on the north side of the railroad tracks(across from The Stable) on Barron Street may be a double-edged sword. I think they’ll get a captive audience from time to time. If you can’t pass the train, you might as well stop for supplies there, especially since you can’t get to the store down by the Frizzell houses on the south side. It is easier to walk to this location than to walk to Kroger or Walmart. It certainly seems like competition for Marsh, and given that Marsh are closing some stores, it might be a good thing that it’s there. The store isn’t huge, but they have enough groceries that you wouldn’t have to go anywhere else for the staple items. Whether it’s food or laundry detergent or health and beauty, it’s there. The prices aren’t always the best – you have to know exactly what you’re buying in size and in price, although Dollar General is usually more fair than the stores where everything is exactly on the dollar. The company has been doing a deal where you get a coupon for a future Saturday. You get $ 5.00 off your $ 25.00 purchase on typical items – you can read the fine print on the receipt and it’s not too restrictive. Besides the coupon, they run sales and the cashier was friendly when I shopped at this store, but that’s almost typical of DG and of Eaton.
