Pep Boys

They almost always have what I need, but the sales staff is extremely rude and act like you’re bothering them. Guess that’s the price you pay for convenience.

This place is a joke! We went in there for new breaks on our Malibu. We thought we might also need new rotors. My husband thought it wouldn’t be more than $ 400. They had our car for more than 2 hours. At that point they called to tell us a long list of problems and the cost would be $ 800. My husband said absolutely not and then we took it to a local Midas. They charged us less than $ 400 and we didn’t even half the stuff fixed Pep Boys said we did. Needless to say we will NEVER go there again.

Avoid this place. I got an estimate from Belle Tire to replace my shocks and struts. It was more than I thought it would be. So I call Pep Boys and tell them what I need done. They quote me about $ 160 less. Great, I’ll go there instead. Drop the car off, told it will take about 4 ½ hours. I leave, 5 minutes later my phone rings. «You have shocks in the rear.» Yeah I told you that on the phone. «It’s gonna cost nearly $ 400 more.» «No, Belle Tire quoted me at $ 240 less for the same work.» There’s a long pause… «Ok, we’ll do it for that.» Alright. About 90 minutes goes by and my phone rings, and someone else from Pep Boys is calling to tell me of a number of other things that need to be fixed or replaced. Really? Oh yeah it’s gonna cost over $ 700 more. «I’m on my way to pick up my car.» Start to drive away and notice my car is making noises it was not before leaving it with Pep Boys. That’s strange, since I know exactly what it is, one of the things on that list of additional work I supposedly needed. Take it back to Belle Tire the next day. They take a look at it, and all that additional work Pep Boys tells me I need, does NOT need to be done. And here I thought I was getting a good deal at a reputable business. My mistake, don’t make the same by going here.

An oil change, the quickest thing!
An hour!!! And it’s still not ready.

As far as product these guys have a ton! I can always find interior/​exterior accessories I need or performance parts. But if you’re looking to have work done here, save yourself a trip! Took my wifes Honda CRV here for a brake replacement for the front. After waiting to see how much we were told how bad the ball joints were, control arms, and a few other things. We were quoted close to $ 800 to fix everything. We said thats to much so took it to Firestone on 15 & Gratiot, mechanic took us under car showed us our ball joint was fine, control arms were fine, replaced brake pads and rotors. Ended up paying about $ 150 car has been fine.
Pepboys is close to my house so it can be convenient but I will not have work done here. They are always about $ 150-​$ 300 over when it comes to getting estimates for certain repairs. Call around and see for yourself.
