If I ever have children they will take lessons here in the instrument of their choice. Hopefully percussion like me but who knows. RIPhilo has a wonderful set up here for RIPYOANDRIPYWE as well as many other ensembles, along with the Narragansett Bay Symphony Community Orchestra. One of rhode Islands unknown treasures.

The music together program is an excellent way to learn about music. The Carter Center is a wonderful place to learn. The teachers are highly skilled and professionally trained. And the classes are small but diverse. Bottom line: this is one of the best kept secrets in RI.

My son has gone here for private lessons and ensemble for about five years. When he started here, the office side, especially the billing, was a total shit show. In the last two years, they’ve cleaned house, got in some new blood, and really done a nice job of streamlining their fees and communication. One used to need the Rosetta Stone to decode their bills, but they’ve figured it out well. Teachers have been great with teaching Junior what he needs to know and helping him to feel included and competent in playing music. The ensemble teacher, in particular, rides the kids until they get it right without being mean or egotistical. The cost, while expensive over time, is well worth the end result. If you have a kid that you want involved in music, I don’t know why you’d go anywhere else.

Warning: there will be pretentious young couples here who bring their newborn babies to expensive music classes. But I still love the Music School. It is well decorated, spacious, and well kept. The teachers are all highly regarded and though pricey, it is a great place to take music classes. There really isn’t any other place like it in Rhode Island.
