I love this local knitting shop! I am still relatively new to Michigan, and finding this little gem nestled just off the Michigan State campus has made my new life here in Lansing much more fun. The staff members are not only incredibly knowledgeable about different fibers and current trends but also have a great grasp of the history of the art and tips and tricks to make things easier. Woven Art carries a great selection of high quality yarn including some from Michiganders. I am admittedly very picky about the yarn I knit with, and I have been pleased with the variety of options and quality. I highly recommend anyone who loves to knit or do anything with fiber(they do weaving too) to visit the shop, take a class taught by expert knitters, or simply chat with the shop owner and staff members. It is a cool place with a fiber-filled atmosphere where I feel I been welcomed into the knitting community in central Michigan.

For the record, my only experience with this place is one phone call. I called asking for Lamb’s Pride Worsted, a very good quality yarn that’s especially great for felting. I was informed that«We don’t carry *that* kind of yarn» in a voice dripping with disdain. I don’t do snobbery. Considering there are only two yarn shops in the whole area, they might want to sound a little less elitist. «We don’t carry that but perhaps I can suggest…» or «You might check xyz website» would have been much better… perhaps some customer service training is in order.

I always try to check out yarn shops when even I travel. Woven Arts was a welcoming oasis on a humid summer day in East Lansing. The owner Meg was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about yarn and patterns. I was looking for a pattern and yarn for a meditation/yoga shawl. Anyones bought a beautiful malabrigo yarn at good price while we chatted about where we grew up and how we ended up in Michigan felt like chatting with a friend in the kitchen. I will definitely be back when in the area.

I visited this Woven Arts tonight for the first time, and I loved it! I am from Maryland, and work in a local yarn shop there. The charm, atmosphere and friendliness of the staff is top notch. A large variety of yarn is available, with some more reasonably priced yarn, and some high-end yarns. You know, «life is too short for cheap yarn»! I walked out with enough yarn for 3 projects, and I will be back to visit this lovely store on my next business trip into town.

First you have to find the shop! Be sure to check directions, because their side street is somewhat odd to locate if you don’t know the town. They have interesting, although expensive types, of yarn. The yarn I was seeking did not jump out at me, and after 20 minutes of being ignored because the shopgirl was chatting loudly with the only other customer in the store, I left.

I stopped in here on Sunday because I needed yarn and knitting needles. The store features a wide selection of high-quality yarn, so it is a bit on the pricy side as opposed to buying yarn at a chain craft store. That said, the yarn I bought is fantastic and I also purchased wired knitting needles as those are the only ones they sell there.(I actually find using them easier than traditional knitting needles.) The atmosphere inside of the store is very soothing due to the lighting and folk music that plays in the store. The staff is very helpful with answering any questions about what yarn to use for projects and any general questions about knitting, crocheting or other woven arts. They also have a thing on Thursday nights from 6 – 8 p.m. where people go to the store, sit and knit, talk and get help on projects. It’s a really fun way to spend a Thursday night. The store also has very comfortable chairs, so being there for a bit is really nice. If you’re in the East Lansing area and enjoy working with yarn, I really recommend you visit this store.

Your local yarn shop ~ a rare breed nowdays. Worth a visit. I got my Elizabeth Zimmerman books here. The owner Nancy takes care to order a selection of quality fibers: silk, hemp, linen, blends, exotic fibers, 100% wool in SO many colors! She is a pretty talented lady, and loves her crochet and weaving. She hand-dyes BEAUTIFULLY! Such a treat. You will be blown away by the selection here, even though it is a small space. They have needles, looms, patterns, and knowledgeable and crafty staff. That’s not something you can say about Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joann’s, etc.
