A must see! Repeatedly! The Sweater Venture is a great international fair trade store featuring amazing knits – sweaters, hats, gloves, socks, etc. (and also lots of other neat items from unique jewelry to shoes, ornaments to music). The owner personally knows the knitters and travels to collaborate with them in person on new designs, patterns and colors – I see beautiful new things every time I go. I have multiple sweaters from there that I adore, wool to alpaca and in a wonderful variety of colors.
Great service too! Shopping for my mother in law was never so easy. Went in, the owner asked for some details about her – colors she prefers, her size/​shape, style she prefers, what she looks like and brought out multiple sweater suggestions. Chose a very interesting intricate new patterned sweater in a great color (she & her friends won’t find that anywhere else!) that she fell in love with. Kudos to Dave!

This gem of a store is one of a kind in the Capital Region. Quality hand knit alpaca and wool sweaters, gloves, hats, etc., unique jewelry and gifts, all «fair trade». A wonderful place to shop at Christmas or really anytime (but I like the fire they keep going in the winter). The owners deal regularly with the South American artisans who make most of the stores items. Be sure to talk to the owners, they are great people with fun and interesting stories about their buying and travel adventures. They will also do their best to help you find something you like (and they gift wrap).
If you like different and unique items made by traditional craftspeople (or if you just need a really warm sweater) Sweater Venture shouldn’t be missed.

I learned a new phrase called knitwear recently and found myself in need of some knitwear as gifts for Christmas.
The sweater venture had me totally covered for all of my knitwear needs. The people were really nice… Almost too nice and it made my suspect my new mittens were made by ecuadorian slave children, but they assured me otherwise.
They loose a star for not having more locally made knitwear, but beside that this is a great place for cozy holiday gifts.

The Sweater Venture is a great little store in a converted church. In addition to lots of really nice sweaters, they have the coolest jewelry and accessories. It’s my go to place to buy unique gifts for my family. It helps that the owners are really great people who go the extra mile for thier customers. (and they have the coolest cat who hangs out there).
