Northridge Co-Op Section 3

It’s 2014 and Northridge is offering wall to wall carpeting!!! Also so safe that they had to install cameras everywhere and allow the local precinct full access to the building. If i could give them negative 5 stars, I would in a heartbeat! We were excited to buy our very first home here and thought everything was in order. We exceeded all requirements for the building, however, our application was denied by the board. We believe they did not like our purchase price. Our unit required a lot of work so it was relatively low. It could be that they were jealous of our accepted offer. Our interview went fine until the end when out of nowhere they asked some ethnicity questions. Again this is 2014. I repeat asked ethnicity questions! Use caution when thinking about buying here the board is interesting and there are grey areas regarding rules and management. Poorly constructed buildings that have a lot of rules & be ready to fork over 25% of your profit when it’s time to sell. Check the other 2 reviews. 1 from a different section by a board member and one here by someone who grew up here all their life… «thee best value» especially when you inherit or buy as a baby.

I’ve lived and grew up here all my life (36 years) and Northridge is THEE best value in terms of affordable co-​ops in Jackson Heights. The buildings are a block away from the Jackson HTS historic district, where a co-​op in that section can run 50% more than what you pay for at Northridge.
Not only are the buildings in a great neighborhood (i.e. lots of shopping, diversity of restaurants, public transportation, good schools) but maintainance of the premises are excellent and I’ve always had good neighbors. It doesn’t matter where you live, shitty neighbors can make living anywhere a bad experience. But we’ve been lucky.
Before buying a co-​op in Northridge, or anywhere for that matter, you need to look into their rules of buying and selling. Every co-​op board runs their building differently. Particularly, you need to ask about their down payment (last I checked they required 25% down), extra monthly fees for air conditioners and parking (huge waiting list), assessments and the flip tax (which gets everyone once they try to sell). There are several more rules they’ll go over with you, but with any co-​op you purchase, always have an attorney review their financial statements.
