Manor Restaurant & Pancake House

The server we had was attentive but the food was ehh. My friend got an omelette and it was very basic, silver dollar pancakes were very thin, hashbrowns lacked flavor. I made the mistake of getting the fetuccini Alfredo, save your 10 $ and go to Olive garden. The pasta was really bad and tasted like they used a jar of alfredo you can just buy at meijer. I told my server I didn’t like it and that it was fine that I didn’t want something else instead of it because the salad bar already filled me up. The owner didnt reduce my check or anything and said they make their own alfredo. Even when she sat us down, she didn’t mention any specials or anything. won’t be coming back.

This place is down the road from where I golf on Tuesdays, so it’s been my morning ritual before my round of golf. This review encompasses the last 4 visits. Wednesday March 30^th I was part of a group of 15 or so that stopped in for breakfast before golf. We were seated quickly and given 2 servers to accommodate the large group. I ordered from the main menu (3 eggs, hash-​browns, bacon, & toast). Everything was great, not that you can really screw that up. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my meal.
Tuesdays June 7^th, 14^th, & 21^st. They offer a weekday morning deal that has roughly 10 or so options for only $ 6.25, always a plus. Each day I ordered off of this menu.
June 7^th I had I think 2 eggs, hash-​browns, & bacon. Once again, everything was great. The order came out quickly as just off the grill top.
June 14^th & 21^st I had the french toast. It only comes with 2 full pieces of 4 halves, along with either bacon or sausage. I always get the bacon (3 pieces). Both times everything once again was great tasting and super quick to come to my table.
The Manor will continue to be a pre-​golf tradition.

Breakfast at the Manor Restaurant provides an East Meets West experience without the use of the trendy word ‘Fusion’, as in Asian-​Fusion, which is hard to do. This building must have been a Chinese restaurant circa 1975 with its round windows, Asian influenced outdoor garden, low ceilings, and the «bamboo» (wood) façade encompassing the entire dining room. All that was missing were paper placemats depicting the Chinese Zodiac signs (I’m a monkey!) and Lazy Susans on the larger family-​style tables.
Meeting the West, the menu consisted of American fare with a very slight Mexican influence. Upon entering the Manor House, in true Western culture fashion, you’re greeted by a display case consisting of pies, cakes, and baseball decorated cookies. Among the dining room, about 50% of patrons and staff were speaking English, and the other half were speaking Spanish.
I ordered the Bacon, Eggs, and Toast meal and substituted Silver Peso Pancakes for the bread. One can add hash browns to their meal for a dollar, so I did. My eggs arrived scrambled as ordered, very tasty, and certainly largely portioned. Hash browns were excellent, and the bacon was thin and crunchy. My phenomenal pancakes included a scoop of whipped butter, which was the icing on the cake! (Chef’s Note: Add some confectioners sugar to that butter, and it would be icing! Literally!) No complaints at all for my meal.
The better half ordered the No. 1 Pork Egg Foo Young Special. errr, I mean, the 3 Egg Deluxe Omelette, which consisted of bacon, sausage, onions, green peppers, sans mushrooms. This omelette had way too much cheese to be enjoyable, but the pancakes more than made up for the kitchen snafu.
Water glasses are tiny and need to be refilled constantly, which I find to be a pain. Coffee magically stays refilled, which is a definite plus in my book. Service was good.
The acoustics de Restaurante Manor are AMAZING. So quiet, even if you have a hangover, you won’t be bothered by noise. Overall, an enjoyable restaurant not to be missed.
I now find myself craving old-​school Chinese/​Polynesian cuisine for dinner tonight, certainly due to the décor of this pancake house. Bring on the Pu Pu Platter, Teriyaki Beef, and Scorpion Bowl for dinner!

I really can’t understand why this place gets so busy the food is really very blank everything taste the same I think they need to start redoing the recipes or something but the pancakes are good but everything else taste funny has a weird aftertaste

I was looking for a ‘coffee shop /​Greek restaurant’ in East Dundee. Bascially one that has bakery goods in a display case, a variety of menu items, and one that keeps the coffee cup full. This place fit the bill. Cindy was our server and she did a great job of keeping my coffee cup full and bringing us what we ordered. The food was good, the portions where plenty and Cindy’s service was attentive and friendly. What more do you need?

Been coming here for years as the go to place for Sunday breakfast with the family. The food is good, and the prices are more than reasonable. We have had dinner here before, and it is what you might expect for a diner as far as burgers and sandwiches go. The soups that i have had are all really good. Would recommend if you are looking for a good breakfast place in the area.

I have NEVER been in such a hurry to get finished with a meal in all my life!!! We hadn’t been here in years, and decided to go for Breakfast there today since all of the GREAT Breakfast Spots were so crowded! From the minute we walked in the door, THE OWNERS, «greeted» us with ZERO enthusiasm! No «Good Morning» and not even the hint of a smile! At our dirty table, we encountered more of the same from the water server to the pissed off looking waitress!!! Our Omelettes were swimming in butter, and one of ours was cold, just like the staff!!! No music playing either, just the crashing sound of dishes coming from the bussing station. Will not be returning here!!!

¹⁰⁄₁₀ would visit again. Excellent busboys. They was very polite. They work hard. They know what they’re doing. The wait time for the food was excellent. Food was good. It was a reasonable price for the food, maybe take a couple bucks off of an item. Table was clean, enjoyed my meal. Good soft music while eating. Wouldn’t recommend sitting next to the bathroom or kitchen doors. The waiters could liven up, when they were singing happy birthday it sounded like they were forced to do it. Great hostess, my daughter loved her. The kids loved George’s magic tricks. When I was leaving, I left my sunglasses at the table, but thankfully as I was paying my check one of the busboys gave it back to me. Good to know we still have spirit out there.

Went for breakfast here about a week ago. The ladies in the front give horrible customer service. They were rude and unfriendly. The food was as expected, bland. The coffee was lukewarm and very watered down. First and last time I go.

I love this place, Been coming here for over a year now after doing a search for Liver and onions in the area. I grew up in the city and there where a lot of Greek family owned restaurants around.
theirs not a lot of family restaurants out here that still serve the old favorites like liver and onions, breaded veal cutlet dinners, club sandwiches, BLT’s, Reuben’s or patty melt’s ETC…
this place has a great menu selection. The only thing i wish was a better salad bar more verity like maybe cottage cheese or claw slaw, sliced hard boiled eggs
One more thing is the daily specials great verity to choose from…
service is always great
just wish they had Dr PEPPER :)

I have came here for years now, their breakfast is really good. I love getting their Manor skillet. However, I always much rather get the food to go, due to the fact that their staff is VERY RUDE AND HAS ALWAYS ATTITUDE. I feel more like they are racist towards hispanics/​blacks. The reason why I feel that way is because over the phone, I wouldn’t even recognize that it is the same staff! Until I give a hispanic name for my order, then their attitude completely changes. And even one time instead of Alejandro, we gave the name Alex and no attitude change, UNTIL we picked up the order. It is like night and day!
Overall, good food, HORRIBLE STAFF.

I’ve been coming here since I was little. I remember getting ice cream, salad bar and kids meals. Now I go for the soup and sandwiches. The night manager is the nicest man ever. So funny and friendly! Good cookies too!

If you like rules on drink refills, terrible customer service, and finding hair in your food, then come eat here. When I told our server about the long black hair I found in my soup, she stood at our table and mixed through it with my spoon (I’m guessing she didn’t believe me, even though it was sitting right on top. She basically hid it). I was very calm with her, but still felt like I wasn’t being listened to.
The ice water had a wet dog aroma, the coffee was lukewarm and terrible, and I never thought a restaurant could be so incredibly bad at making a cold sandwich. They basically slapped a handful of corned beef on some bread and pulled some lettuce and tomato out of the garbage. Our dirty plates were left on our table, and the cashier had to go find our server just so she could split our bill, which she claimed she offered to do for us (but never did).
I’ve read a lot of the reviews on here, and some people have had experiences way worse than mine. I DO NOT suggest ever coming here, even if you’re desperate. Anywhere else is better.

I used to have breakfast here with my grandparents when I was a kid. I am now closer to 50 than I am to 40 and this place hasn’t changed much. It does have an odd smell and it does need some updating but when I walk in the door, I am flooded by memories of my grandparents, whom I miss dearly.
Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night. 2 adults, 2 teens and two under 10. Almost all of us had breakfast except one of our teens. The food was decent and all of us, except for the hubby, took our leftovers home and had them the next day for lunch.
I had the Country Skillet and it was pretty darn good. Totally hit the spot and warmed me up on a unseasonably cold fall night. Hubby also had a skillet and he enjoyed it. Kids had pancakes and loved them. One teen had eggs and the other had… something. I cannot remember. Not breakfast. But she liked it.
Our waitress was amazing. I wish I could remember her name. She was so great with the kids and just wonderful about checking in with us and refilling our coffee.

I agree with other Unilocalers this place does need a makeover. Whenever we go here on a Sunday for breakfast it is packed (typically with post church goers and people that look like they have hangovers) but we always get seated promptly and the servers we have had in the past have been attentive. Our food always comes out like we ordered– no complaints.
We will be returning in the near future.

My family and I have come to this restaurant for the past 30 years. We are an easygoing group and rarely complain, even about poor service. I can honestly say that after our experience at the Manor this last time, we will NEVER return. Yes, it was that awful.
I came to the Manor for breakfast with a group of 6. It was a Saturday morning and we had a 9:00 reservation. Our group was a bridal party, we were there to have breakfast prior to getting ready for a wedding. 4 of us arrived promptly at 9:00, the other 2 were on their way, but close by. We asked to sit at our table and were told we could not, and that we had to wait till the other 2 arrived. We explained that we wanted to sit and have coffee and that the other 2 were not far away. We were still told no. We explained that this was a RESERVATION, the table was empty and just waiting for us. Still no.
Another group next to us was having a similar problem. In addition, they were requesting a table away from the door and the hostess (an older woman) began making fun of them for saying they would be cold by the door.
Anyway, back to our group. We weren’t just told no, we were very rudely and loudly told no. When we expressed that we were very unhappy with the way we were being treated, the owner (another older woman) told us she didn’t care if we were upset because her restaurant has been around for 35 years, and if she lost our business she didn’t care.
They finally agreed to seat us, but the woman seating us (a third woman) proceeded to argue with us the whole time. She told us that every single restaurant in the world follows this policy, and she has never heard of a restaurant seating a party before everyone has arrived.
Um, what?
The whole incident was ridiculous. The owner and the 2 hostesses were the rudest people I have ever encountered in my life. If they want a policy like this, fine, but they should have told us when the reservation was made. The next best thing to do would have been seating us, and then explaining their policy for the future. Yelling at us was totally uncalled for.
Oh, and the group who didn’t want to sit by the door got yelled at, too. They were complaining amongst themselves, and one of the women yelled, «Oh knock it off!» to them. Appalling.
The food was good and our waitress was perfectly pleasant. No complaints there. But the owner and the hostesses have lost the business of 3 families that really like to spend our money at restaurants.
I have never written a bad review anywhere, because I don’t generally get upset enough to. The fact that I took time out of my day to write this is a good indicator of how horrible we were treated.
Edited to add: After re-​reading my review, I realized I failed to mention that the restaurant was only about half full when this was all happening. There was also no one else waiting, besides the group getting yelled at along with us. The fact that the restaurant was only half full makes it even more ridiculous that they refused to let us sit at our reserved table.

First choice had a line out the door, so we ran over here.
The plusses occurred pretty early. My wife like the wood carving of the bear out front, and we got seated right away. They were quick to make with the coffee and tea. While we were placing our order, a party of 6 was seated next to us.
Minuses? Well, if I’ve already ordered, I’d think that I’d get my food BEFORE the party of 6 that arrived while we were ordering gets theirs. And when I order my eggs poached HARD, it would be really swell if yellow glop didn’t run all over my corned beef hash when I stuck my fork in the yolk. Oh, and when we say we’d like to take the oatmeal and the toast in a to-​go container, it would be fabulous if you didn’t take the toast and throw it away.
I’d have to be pretty desperate for breakfast before I went back.

So when I first walked in here I was a little nervous. It looked old, cheap and dingy. But it had good reviews on Unilocal,so I was going to try it out anyways. My first impression was that the water tasted off… but didn’t smell. I stuck to the coffee. At least if there was something wrong with the water they had to boil it first. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fajita skillet which was incredible. A huge portion with sautéed veggies and of course chicken and cheese. I think I ate more of his entrée then my own. I ordered a spinach and feta omelet. It was good, with a lot of fresh spinach, but the feta made it a bit too salty.
Overall, the food was great, service was okay but not so friendly, ambience subpar. But the kitchen was open which made me feel a bit better about things.

I went here for breakfast and it is a hole in the wall that is hopelessly stuck in the 70’s.
The restaurant was dark inside (I could barely read a newspaper) and they also didn’t have wifi service (even more proof it’s stuck in the past).
I ordered basted eggs, sausage links, pancakes and a side of Greek toast — all three were poorly executed. The first eggs were served with the whites still not cooked and I sent them back, the second eggs were overcooked with burned lace and fully cooked yolks.
The sausage was (one of) the grossest things I have ever tased — I swear it was 90% FAT.
The toasted Greek bread was dry and cold and they didn’t butter it, like I had asked.
By the time I got to the pancakes, I was ready to run out of here, but I left hope that they would be edible (since the restaurant’s name has «Pancake House» in it. Boy was I wrong!!! They were raw in the middle — I didn’t even bother to send them back I just left and will never be back!
