What an excellent experience. I was recommend by a friend to give them a try. When you walk into the shop you get the feeling of walking into an authentic barber shop. Simple and inviting. They even sell cigars. That’s just cool. Zack promptly greeted me and invited me over to his station. After asking what I wanted he went to work. I was in need of a buzz cut, nothing fancy. He buzzed and clipped and it came out great. Even down to using a straight razor to shape my face and neck line. I was impressed with the attention to detail. While in the chair it got to meet Martina, the Co-Owner of the shop. You can tell, just from speaking to her, how passionate she is about what she does. From start to finish, it was a fantastic experience. I recommend checking out their website to see all the services they offer and the specials they might have going on. I am almost tempted to try a Straight Razor Shave. I have never had one before and it sounds like a great experience. Thanks again!!!

Went in with fairly long hair, asked Martina to shorten it with basically the same style as I had. Nope. Out comes the clipper, lops off way more than I expected. Didn’t ask if I wanted her to trim my eyebrows, just does it! She complains about the reviews here on Unilocal and badmouths other barbers she’s worked with or knows(arrests, mental problems, etc). Leans her stomach on my arm several times while working. Finished product: too short on the sides, not much longer on top. Okay, it’s a cheap haircut and it’s slightly better than Supercuts. After a few days, I’m really unhappy with the unevenness, go back and ask her to trim the top a bit more to match the sides. Out comes the clipper again, starts cutting the SIDES even shorter! Mows the top to match. I now have a military-short cut that I could do myself with zero training or experience. Starts putting some greasy stuff in her hand. Told her that I don’t use any hair products. She insists, puts it on my hair anyway. I ask her to wash it out, she resists, saying she’s an artist, doesn’t wash it out. Unbelieveable. Now I look like a damned Kewpie doll. Then she had the nerve to charge me for ANOTHER $ 12, knowing that I was pissed. Worst haircut of my adult life AND I have to go buy a hat! Yeah, that bad.

i was new to town and called this places before i went in to see what it was about. The owner answered the phone very friendly and very informative. so i went here. nice old fashion barber fell to it staff was friendly and the hair cut was great and the prices too. this is the real deal and i would recommend anyone to come see these guys for a great haircut, shave and a cigar. this is my new haircut of choice place cause they know how to treat the customer, not like the big chair places super cut, and those others.

This is my new favorite place. I am new to the town and i wanted a good hair cut what guys don’t, so i called and the manager answered he was very nice very, informative. When i arrived i was taken care of right away. They knew exactly how i liked my hair not like other places that do a crapy job on my hair(the big chain places). I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a great haircut, service, and good old fashion feel like a Barber shop should have. I will definitely come back. And get a cigar too.

Sorry, but I’ve got to keep it real. I feel like a Barber Shop should be a place for guys to be guys. To start, the first picture you see on Unilocal of «The Owner and His Team» is completely false. I don’t know who that was posted by(somebody with 0 reviews and 0 friends on Unilocal) but none of those people cut hair here. The owner might be one of these gentlemen, but I’ve never seen him cutting. The rest of the people in the pic definitely do not work here. Back to what I was saying about boys being boys. Last time I was there the only things on the magazine rack were Home and Garden and a bunch of other things that some guys might like to read, but I would say a very small fraction of the population. Am I giving 2 stars over the magazines? No. However, the overwhelming female presence here(2 Female Barbers and the only Male barber they had just left) takes away from that barber shop feel. I’m by no means sexist, but in all honesty you just aren’t going to get the comradery that I feel like should come with the words Barber Shop. Am I looking for crude conversation? No. Do I feel like sometimes guys can talk to each other in a fashion or form that may not be suitable and respectful to talk to ladies? Yes. Like an other review stated that he had heard one of the ladies speaking about sexual acts during his visit. I’ve had similar experiences here and it’s inappropriate. Over my last couple of visits I have have had to sit through absolutely ridiculous conversations. One of the times a female barber was talking about how in Japan McDonalds serves Dog… Dog! She went on for about 5 minutes how screwed up they are«over there» till the person in her chair informed her that he was stationed in Japan for several years and it is totally not the case. At that point she switches it up and says«I’m sorry I meant to say in China». Come on. That’s just insulting. Why, don’t you just say you’re spitting out nonsense towards any Asian country you think the person in your chair knows nothing about. How could you think and American based company would be selling Dog on their menu? I know McDonalds serves some BS, but Dog?! An other time I was getting a hair cut and one of the ladies had an empty chair so she made a phone call on speaker and began talking about visiting relatives or friends in Jail. I don’t care about the topic of conversation as much as I care about the fact that I don’t want to hear your conversation in general. Most recently one of the ladies told somebody to sit in her chair, but she wouldn’t be out for a couple of minutes because she’s trying to pay a bill and has been on hold forever. She said she didn’t want to hang up since she should be getting through soon. Come on. Luckily I was in the middle of a haircut, because if that was me I’d of left. The one Gentlemen that worked here was a real pro. He didn’t have the best English so conversation was minimal, but man did he know how to cut hair. I was pretty upset when I found out he left until I saw him walking through my buddy’s development right here in town. Now I get haircuts at home.

Yes, I am a fan. I live in Helmetta and went to A Cut Above today for first time after going to a few different places in Spotswood, Jamesburg & E. Brunswick area — where I received some very bad cuts. Martina was very nice, really checked my previous cut and when I left she done a great job. She really cut it to my liking and my wife even said its a good cut. I will be making it my «Barber Shop» hopefully continue as long as I am able. She is definitely«A CUTABOVE». RAY K.

Owner of barbershop messages me via Unilocal and tells me that my review affects their business. First time in the world I’ve ever gotten a complaint from a business for my honesty. He tells me «You didn’t even try to sit and get a haircut from us and you stormed out.» Yes, I did storm out because the barber didn’t know what I wanted, I was disrespected and I stormed out, why would I take a seat and get a haircut experience from you guys after being disrespected? Have I done anything to you guys before I walked in to get a cut? And here’s a Unilocal tip, don’t message your customers who gave you 1 star and a bad review and tell them that their review affected your business, THEOWNER is responsible for the employees and supplies.

As good as it gets! The employees here are very knowledgeable and friendly. This is the only place I go for a cut. Some of these reviews are very negative, and as a repeat customer I can assure you this shop is very professional and talented, all at a great price($ 12).

Carlos contacted me and offered another haircut for my son, who is now on his own and gets his own haircut :). I appreciate HIS customer service, although late.

Oh, c’mon people. Yes, the ladies are a little on the cranky side most of the time, but they do a great haircut for $ 12. Are you really going to complain just because they don’t kiss your arse and tell you how handsome you are while they cut your hair?

Great haircuts… lousy personalities. I just try and sacrifice any conversation for a haircut the way I like it. If you are not so lucky, you might get an obscenity laced talk that at times, is just over the top.

Great place. The service is very nice and they know how to cut. Everytime I go in, there is a wait, which is a good thing. Nice to see they are busy. I aways used to go to a mall to get my cut, but now I come here. They also know all the answers to my questions. I have dry thin hair, and when I asked them what should I do, they gave me some tips, and it worked. The prices are cheap, $ 12 for a hair cut, not too bad. One thing I would say is that they need to redo the place, it’s a little 1980’s with the green paint. But overall, I recommend going there.
