I went to «Athens» just about once and I realize why I went just about once. Ok, so I will now be reviewing«Papa Stellios», which is reminiscent of the Stellios which existed where the former Carmens was, where the former Pedro Murphy’s was, and where the future… another restaurant will be. Papa Stellios is good, their pizza is «horribly average», the bar pie. I’ve ranted enough about bar pies… so see my review of Vikings Pizza or Emmas where my bar pie rant is(I can’t remember which). Anyways, the redeeming thing about Papa Stellios is the buffalo chicken calzone. It is EXCELLENT. Probably one of the best value meals that I will ever have. It doesn’t have any bull in it, just good buffalo chicken(not chicken fingers dipped in buffalo sauce, and even if it is, it works) and pizza cheese. I recommend bleu cheese dressing to go along with it. It is really good. This part of Rt. 18 is good, so the location is good. The people seem like nice people. They also have a pizza deal where if you buy a certain number of pizzas, you’ll get a small pizza for free. Check it out, Cactus Approved.

Athens Pizza/Papa Stelios is just your run of the mill boring Greek style sub shop. Their sauce is the worst in the area. I don’t know if they just use the Sysco sauce right out of the can or what, but it had no flavor. It is right on RT18, and the service is quick. If you’re just looking for a quick cheap take out option, that’s about all it’s good for.

So due to the fact that I’ve been told by 2 Unilocalers(Who are in fact, the same person) that Athens pizza has changed owners and are significantly better than the last time I had been(Over 3 years ago), I decided to go back. Well, it didn’t go well. We ordered at the counter. The counter guy seemed to be in a rush and was very rude to my friend who was with me. We were looking at the toppings and we had no line behind us, the guy told my friend to «Hurry it up». Quite douchey. The pizza was average, nothing special. Little bit greasy with a run of the mill greek crust. The green peppers on the pizza were a little mushy and obviously not fresh. If the service wasn’t so bad I’d give it 2 maybe 3 stars, but I’ve never been treated like that at a restaurant. I’m glad I went back and updated my review.

Warning, the 5-star reviews below come from reviewers who, at the time of this post, have not reviewed any other restaurants, have only 1 picture on their profile and have not completed their profiles beyond listing their location as MA. Additionally, all of the 1-star reviews are written in the same broken English and all of the reviewers sign their name at the bottom of their posts. Beware.

I go to Athens about once a year, and then I remember why I go to Athens once a year. They are horribly average. Nothing jumps out here, their main advantage is that they are next to Dunkin’ Donuts. Update 1⁄2007 They apparently are now closed, the new name is something like«Papa Stelios». This quite possibly is the same family that ran the East Bridgewater House of Pizza back in the 70’s plus the famous«Stelios» restaurant that closed a few years ago(now Carmens). Update 7⁄2008 I’m amazed that I still get harassing e-mails about this review. Some people can’t handle other people’s opinion I guess.
