Wallenwein’s Hotel & Horse Shoe

I have such a love-​hate relationship with Wallenwein’s. There is no better place in WNY to get a fish fry, and the sides that come with it are excellent. Portions are large and very filling. However, the service is usually terrible, so whether we go there really depends on how bad I want a fish fry that night.
Sometimes there is a hostess but other times there might be a wait list at the bar, or you seat yourself. I usually stop at the bar and ask. I wish they would come up with a more consistent system. On the occasions that we have been told to seat ourselves, we’ve waited a LONG time before a server ever came over to us… to the point where it becomes awkward and we debate leaving (one time we did leave).
On a busy Friday this winter we waited about two hours for our food (so did the table next to us… the server offered us all free drinks and apologized).
There is a nice patio out front with a fire pit but it’s tough to enjoy because there are always people out there smoking cigarettes. Even if there is a «designated smoking section» the smoke still wafts over to the eating area, there’s no way to stop that. I don’t think it’s fair to the other customers or the wait staff who have to breathe that in.

You have to stop in on Wednesday nights for the chicken BBQ… everything is homemade down to the Mop Bbq sauce on the chicken… you get ½ chicken with Potato salad and baked beans for $ 9.50 a great price for a great Chicken dinner

Fantastic NY style thin crust pizza with a sweet traditional sauce. Best cheese pie I’ve had in years.

I wish I could rate the food. We’ve been here for close to two hours and still no food. The Guinness was good, and at least the kids have fallen asleep at the table. They should really consider their kitchen to customers ratio. It’s killing them.

We went to Wallenwein’s Hotel on Friday night with friends. We couldn’t get into another local restaurant, so we thought we would try Wallenwein’s.
We are so glad that we did. We walked right in and were told we could just sit ourselves down at an empty table.
Two of us had the beer battered fish fry, which were very good. I had the broiled fish which as excellent.
My husband had the seafood basket, that he didn’t enjoy. He saw someone with it on another table and ordered it. It looked better then it was.
All in all a very nice place, and we will go back again and try something else on the menu.

This is a great secret local place. After terrible service at a local restaurant, we came here for wings and pizza. Fabulous food! Eat on the porch, watch the locals walk about, and count your blessings!

It is quite a surprise that this is the spot here in East Aurora. There is no other way to describe this magical spot other than with its amazing tables and chairs in the bar area as well as it’s lack of bar stools at the bar itself. The condition is just amazing here, and I truly love it.

Yes people smoke on the patio… It’s a bar, NOT a family gathering place.
Snake does not make the wings overly hot like he used to in the 70’s…

Screw papa jakes, !! I will drive from buffalo every Friday to get the best fishfry in Wny and that I’ve ever had Hands down … everyone there very happy and the broiled fish for my wife was excellent ‚… Place is huge but very comfortable and we we seated right away … Highl recommend

good spaghetti dinner! get a meatball or two.

Great bar without bar stools (they’re very proud of that), good pizza (different than the standard WNY-​style, more of a «cardboard» crust but very good) — and they have an indoor horseshoe pit — the real deal.
Wednesday night is spaghetti night and I was dragged here by my parents last time we were in town — it turned out to be really good. All you can eat spaghetti with a la carte «Walle-​balls» (meatballs). Solid food and cheap.
The wings and subs are excellent too.
