With the advent of digital cameras, everyone seems to think they’re professional photographers these days. Take a look at Facebook and you’ll see that’s not the case. The simple aesthetics are ignored, framing, lighting, posing, etc. Just because you can afford a pro camera doesn’t mean you can shoot with one. Cherie, the owner of DLP, is 100 percent self taught. But, it wasn’t like she just started playing around with trial and error. She dove headlong into research, reading everything she could get her hands on to better herself, went to seminars, reached out to other professionals already established, and took a genuine passion for good photos and turned it into a business. And she did so by simply following her gut and being herself. You will not find a better, more accessible, friendly, smart, and engaging photographer in all of Alaska. I know this, because I’m married to her. Now, you may think that makes me bias. And you’d be right. However, you have to consider what’s at stake, which is our livelihood. Cherie took a gamble with this business and poured her heart and soul into it, just to make it work, to see if she could make a living out of doing something she absolutely loved. It was a risk, because if it didn’t work out, we’d be back to square one, and no bank waits for a gamble when the mortgage is due. So, my bias is natural, but my genuine amazement and the product that my wife turns out is not. We talked a lot about the business and what she hoped to achieve, what her«thing» was. And it was always about capturing photos of people in a very natural way, as if they just happened to have someone photographing them while living their everyday lives. Cherie has managed to stay consistent with that since inception and continues to build that vision with each new client. From newborns to families to seniors to boudoir to weddings, Cherie has been able to capture people in the most beautiful and natural light with a strong vision and deft hand. She has dedicated countless hours to improving herself, her equipment, and her clientele. She works tirelessly to balance this all with a husband who works full time and goes to school full time, all while helping to raise our son. She is a master craftsman and a truly passionate person. You would be remiss to look anywhere else to have your life captured on film.

A couple years ago my dear friend, Cherie, started her own photography business. I know, I know– lots of people who own a fancy camera start a «photography» business– but Dashing Life is the real deal! At first, I didn’t think I would be able to utilize Cherie’s talent– she started off specializing in family/children — I didn’t really have either. But what I did have was a wedding! DLP had not yet branched into the wild and crazy world of wedding photography, but considering Cherie was on the guest list I didn’t hesitate to say yes when she asked is she could shoot pics at the wedding to start a portfolio! Now, I did already have a wedding photographer– so in the end I lucked out and had two great shooters at the wedding! While I love the work of the photographer I hired, I have to say, my favorite pics were taken by Cherie with DLP! I had a very laid back, back yard wedding with close friends and family. My husband and I wanted to spend minimal time shooting formal pics and were looking for more candids than anything. Cherie totally delivered! I have never felt some beautiful in all my life and Cherie totally captured that! If you are looking to have a blast at your photo shoot, whether it be portraits or a formal event, Cherie is your gal! She lives life to the fullest, is always prepared, and wants you to have the best time ever! I follow Dashing Life Photography on a daily basis — and on a daily basis my day is made brighter by all the wonderful pictures! I look forward to utilizing DLP in the future for all my photography needs!
