Eagle Fern park was an awesome setting for a nice campfire to roast some hot dogs and marshmallows. Even though it is the off season, there seemed to be quite a few people coming into the park to hike the trails, walk along the river, or hang out on the(totally rad) suspension bridge. Eagle Fern is out past Estacada, and though it feels pretty secluded and forested, it isn’t really that far out of the city, a big gas saver. The park ranger also gave us some free wood when I inquired about buying a bundle. He gave us a bunch of pieces that wouldn’t fit into his gas stove in his house on the property, and even split some of the other logs into kindling for us — really cool! All in all, we had a great day out there and would love to go back during the summer season when we can actually venture into the river and spend some time camping. Totally reasonable $ 5 fee for the day use(park closes at 6), more if you’re going to camp of course, but totally worth it.

While out and about with The Wife and The Tax Deduction we went adventuring, which is our term for driving around looking for new stuff. Way out past Estacada we found signs for Eagle Fern Park. It sounded interesting so we pointed the mighty Unilocalmobile toward adventure! Eagle Fern is a beautiful park nestled in between Western Red Cedars and Doug Fir Pines, complete with Eagle Creek running through it, just the place on a hot summer day to wade into. The park includes a kick-butt playground for the younger set, picnic tables around every corner, covered and uncovered areas that can be rented for private functions, one seats 100, the other a whopping 300. There is fishing allowed as Fishermen often go home with steelhead, coho, chinook or trout on the line. The creek is also alive with crawdads! Good eatin’ if you can catch the little buggers. Eagle Fern Park is located approximately 3 miles north of Estacada and about 18 miles east of Clackamas. The bathrooms were clean and there were enough trash cans that littering just isn’t an option. It is a Clackamas County Park, and one of the biggest at that. Open year round til 9pm in Summer and until 6pm in winter months.
