The food wasn’t as good as I expected but I’m partially bias since I have been out the country and had very authentic Mediterranean food. That being said it taste good and I would eat here again but I would not order delivery again or get the funnel cake. The funnel cake was ridiculous greasy compared to most places and the delivery took quite long but other than that it was an average experience.

I’ve only tried the mediterranean menu but their falafel pita is delicious, as is the greek salad. The orders are a little slow and there’s not a lot of room inside, so call ahead if it’s cold out! I would favor a little more garlic in my hummus, and I’d skip the fries, which are nothing special.

I passed this place on my way to work and noticed that they had Southern-style fried chicken. I’ve been looking for a local fried chicken place in Durham for ages and the Unilocal reviews weren’t too bad, so the boyfriend and I decided to give it a try in our post-workout haze last Friday. We were starving and a place called Quick Meal that served fried chicken seemed like a great idea. The idea was to grab our food and head down to Fullsteam(how awesome is it that you can take food from anywhere and eat it there) and have some fantastic beer with our fried chicken. Unfortunately, Quick Meal was anything but quick. There was only one guy in the kitchen who was doing his best to keep up with a fair number of orders. We waited for over twenty-minutes for our fried chicken combos. We were so hungry by the time we got our food that we decided to sit at the tables outside and eat there. A word of warning, no matter how hungry you are or how nice a day it is, do not eat at these tables. A bunch of flies will gather around you and persistently attempt to get at your food. The fried chicken was okay and looked and tasted pretty homemade. I liked it because it was fairly light on breading. We subbed curly fries for regular french fries in our combo(cost $ 1 extra but I can’t not order curly fries when they are on a menu) and they were pretty good, but definitely the kind that you can get at any grocery store and fry yourself. Our biscuits were similarly prefabricated. So, nothing to be too impressed about over at «Not-so-Quick Meal» as the boyfriend and I are now calling it. To be fair, I am guessing the owners intended«Quick Meal» to be more of a synonym for«fast food» and less of a promise of speedy service. I’m not sure that the fried chicken warrants a repeat visit, but I might go back to try some of the Mediterranean offerings when I am not ravenously hungry. It also seems like they will deliver orders over $ 10 to your house. I’m not sure that I’d ever take them up on it(seems like it would take forever), but it gives me comfort to know that I live in a town where I can get fried chicken delivered to my front door.

I ordered Quick Meal for pick-up. When I arrived they had only understood I needed 1 Gyro Platter instead of 2. It didn’t take long for them to get the second together. The platter for $ 9.99 was a good value. It came with chicken gyro, pita, Greek salad, tzaziki, and hummus. The chicken was well marinated and perfectly cooked. The tzaziki is great(which is a key factor in a good gyro) The dressing for the salad was balsamic which I really enjoyed. I will be ordered take out from them more often. I love mediterranean food. They also deliver to certain neighborhoods in Durham. Haven’t tried this out yet but heard through my neighborhood list-serv.

This place has become a lunch time staple. I am addicted to their Mediterranean menu. Falafel, gyro, shwarma, you name it, I will eat it. Their tzatziki is yummy. everything is fresh(except the fries, more on that later) and the service is friendly. I have never waited more than 5 – 7 minutes for my food. The crinkle cut french fries are frozen, BUT they are cooked well. I enjoy them quite a bit, if they were limp and sad it might be a different story. One day, I am going to try that onion blossom from the menu, it’s going to call my name and I will not be able to resist. I definitely recommend this place for lunch or a quick dinner. Note: They do have some small outdoor tables(I think 5) with umbrellas.

ADHD review: Decent, tasty food. Not actually all that quick. Prices could be better. More detailed: I went with friends, and we tailgated our dinners. I ordered the beef gyro pita sandwich($ 6), with fries and a drink($ 2). My friends ordered the hummus with pita($ 4), and the chicken souvlaki pita(also $ 6). We had an order of falafel with pita to share($ 4). Took us about 8 – 10 minutes to get our food(and another 6 – 8 when we realized they forgot the fries). I have a weakness for gyro that’s matched only by maybe cheesesteaks. No matter how bad a gyro is, I’m still pretty much guaranteed to(however guiltily) enjoy the sucker. That said, this was a pretty solid gyro. Crisp edges on the meat, plenty of trimmings(except tzatziki, which I could eat by the fistful). I didn’t see where they could possibly keep a doner, so it’s probably pre-cut meat that throw on the flat-top to reheat. I was actually a bit disappointed I didn’t get crinkle-cut fries, but the ones we got were enjoyed by my dining companions. Not necessarily fresh, but fluffy and crisp and fresh from the fryer. The souvlaki was pretty typical for a Mediterranean fast food take-out place, but enjoyable. Nothing to write home about, but I wouldn’t be disappointed to eat it again. Hummus got mixed reviews. It was perfectly adequate, but it’s quite tart and earthy. If you’re not into hummus with ample lemon and extra virgin olive oil, it’s not for you. For the life of us, we couldn’t figure out why the(reasonably good) falafel came with pita triangles. No complaints, though – it gave us extra for eating the hummus. Price? Meh. It’s not the best price. I have serious skepticism about their local-food claims. There’s no place to sit. Still, it’s a decent meal and I’ll be back to explore the other parts of the menu. Cheesesteak, of course!

What a surprise! When we pulled into the parking lot we almost left. If you graded a place to get a great lunch and made the call from it’s looks, it would fail but we were in game mode. Walking in we realized this was take out only, no tables. Looking at the menu we found two totally different cooking styles, Mediterranean and American. Well, go med when everyone is of mid eastern descent. The queen was, as usual, challenged with the choices. She settled on the beef gyro platter while I went for the beef kafta and chicken kabob platter. The Greek salad was fresh made when ordered and the tahini, tazatzki and balsamic vinaigrette was all scratch made and to die for. My four skewers were more meat than I have ever had on one order and was outstanding. The queen’s platter was, should I say, devoured, something seldom done at any eating establishment. Food wise, The queen and I would give it a five, outside a three, therefore a four. Oh yeah, talking to them they have a booth at the state fair!

Quick Meals is just down the road from our place, so my girlfriend and I decided to walk over and check ‘em out tonight. We’d always meant to check out the previous restaurant that was in this space, but never got around to it — after reading other reviews on here we knew we *had* to check out Quick Meals. We already knew from checking out their menu online that we’d be ordering off their Mediterranean menu, but the big menu boards mounted behind the counter definitely got me interested in some of their other offerings for the next time we’re there. They’ve done a nice job with the space — it’s bright and inviting, and it looks like they’ve set up space for a table or two out front in the future. I went with the beef shawarma platter, while my girlfriend got the beef gyro platter — both came with a nice, simple salad of black olives, red onions, tomatoes and feta over fresh romaine, with a tasty creamy balsamic dressing on the side. The shawarma was sliced super thin with tasty, crispy edges, while the gyro meat was sliced thicker and perfectly spiced. Both were tasty with the pita, hummus and tzatziki that came with the platters. Both platter also came with a tahini sauce that neither one of us got around to trying, as we were too in love with the other sauces. Everything was tasty as heck, and the portions were generous for the $ 10 price tag. The service was friendly and quick, and we were offered free soft drinks while we waited. They seemed to be doing a pretty good business for early Friday evening, but even so we only had to wait about 5 mins. for our orders to be ready. They tucked a couple of menus into our take away bag, and I have a feeling we’ll be making good use of them in the near future!

«Fast, diverse food takeout near downtown Durham» In the former«Food For Life Supreme» building, we now have a fast-food takeout alternative with quite a diverse menu. There is no seating here, so do plan to «take out» your food once you get it. The menu has Mediterranean/Greek dishes including gyros, shawerma, and kafta, and sides like baba ghanouj, hummus, and falafel. However, it also has American and Southern standards like fried chicken, fried fish, philly steaks, and sides like fried okra, hush puppies, and curly fries. Finally, it has various«state fair» foods like funnel cake, blooming onion, etc. They also have root beer floats, milkshakes, and baklava. It’s definitely«diverse»! Positives: + Diversity of choices– discussed above. + Service– very friendly when we went– we were greeted immediately by both people working there, and the lady behind the counter took a few minutes to walk us through the menu(making recommendations when asked). + Speed– food came out relatively quick– 10 minutes from completion of our order. Short enough that it was«quick» but long enough that it was clearly made fresh for us. + Quantity– my sandwich was quite large(see picture uploaded). Good helping of fries, too. + Taste of sandwich– my sandwich was good. Very, very messy, but that’s a good sign for a philly steak sandwich. The meat was juicy(not overly fatty), and they were generous with the cheese, peppers, etc. I also liked the orange sauce they included. Average: = Price was OK – $ 6 for each sandwich and another $ 2 for fries and a drink. A little high for fast food but not bad for lunch, given the quantity. Negatives: — Fries– pass on the fries. They’re basically frozen ones from a bag. Ask to substitute for something else, or just pay extra for something better. — Takeout only– would be nice if there was an option to eat-in. Synopsis: I enjoyed my sandwich. It’s bigger, fresher, and had more meat than I would have gotten had I gone to Subway and ordered a steak & cheese sandwich. However, I’d probably be more inclined to go back and get a Mediterranean/Greek dish next time since those options are probably more their specialty. My friend had the kafta pita, and that looked really good. For now, I’ll say A-OK.

This place was a total lucky find for me. Was in the neighborhood and needed a quick lunch and decided to stop and give«Quick Meal» a try. Here I was thinking I’d have to get some greasy food that I’d regret for the rest of the day, and instead find a delicious Mediterranean place! The owner could not have been more friendly. He walked me through their menu. They have a great selection of salads, sandwiches, and platters.(I love how he says there chicken is marinated for 48 hours before cooking it) Only about half of of the food on the menu is «Mediterranean» with the other half being what can only be described as «American”-philly cheese steaks, wings, friend chicken combos.(My favorite section of the menu is the«State Fair Menu”-where else in town can you get a Funnel Cake?) I tried the Baba Ghanouj which was delicious full of good garlic and lemon flavors. I also had the Beef Shawerma, which was served on a pita bread sandwich. Especially for the price, I got a huge overflowing pita filled with shaved meat, lettuce, tomato, grilled onion, tahini sauce and sumac sprinkled on top. Both were very tasty, and I could tell that the owner makes as much as possible by hand. I would definitely recommend anyone to try this. However, remember there is nowhere to sit down, this is just a take-out place.
