I love how conveniently close this place is to Duke, about a five minute drive. The owner is always working and she’s super sweet. She makes a lot of different flavors of truffles, more so than escazu, so if you’re feeling adventurous, I would try this place. She also makes more familiar flavors like kahlua. They also sell macaroons as well; this is a very good place to go for special occasions. My husband got chocolates from this place and I loved each flavor and design. Definitely have to go back when I’m wanting some fancy chocolates.

Worst customer service. My wife went here to talk about making a birthday cake for my 1 year old son. The owner was very rude and made her feel like she couldn’t afford the cake and told her to go elsewhere. My wife left in tears. If I had been there I would have had some choice words for her. My office manger who is a baker has kindly offered to make the cake. The owner needs to come off her high horse and be more respectful to customers. I hope future customers give this place a wide berth.

We stopped in after an afternoon at Rockwood Park. They feature hand made chocolates with a variety of flavors. I bought two salted variations, a dark cherry, a whisky, and a Moroccan mint. So far, we tried the dark cherry and one of the salted varieties. Both were excellent and I look forward to trying the rest!

Hunted this place down for some macarons when I was visiting the area and felt it was right on par with texture and taste. I will say that the flavors were unique, though there weren’t many left by the time I arrived late on a Saturday afternoon. The chocolates selection, though – WOW! Impressively made pieces and tasty, too. If you like macarons and chocolates, it would be worth your time to stop by.

One word: macarons. I discovered them at this shop when it was in Carrboro, and was instantly hooked. I live in Durham now, and was thrilled to find out the new location is just five minutes from my house! I I haven’t tried anything but the macarons yet, but they are BYFAR the best available in the Triangle, with the most inventive flavors and the freshest taste.

Miel Bön Bons is a terrific place for cakes and chocolates. Bonnie, the proprietor, is friendly and gave us over ten different samples for a wedding cake tasting. The cakes were delicious and varied with just enough sweetness. She certainly has great artistic skill and we marveled at her display of creations. We were quite impressed with our wedding cake and our guests kept raving about how delicious it was! The chocolates are unique with a wide range of flavors, ranging from nutty to fruity to dark. We love the dark chocolates(74%, 85%) and the nutty ones like the cinnamon hazelnut. Definitely worth going out of your way to try!

I love this store. I used to go when the store was in Carrboro and now I travel to Durham to get a taste of Bonnie’s chocolates, cakes, cookies, pies, macarons, etc… Everything is made in the store and taste amazing! My favorite is the hazelnut crunch cake! It is to die for!!! There is a fruity soft spongy cake and then at the bottom there are crunchy hazelnut cookies. The differences of the two textures combine to create a perfect mix of soft and crunchy. I am her regular customer and will be as long as I am in the area. She makes cakes for all our family celebrations and she has promised to make my wedding cake :)

By far the best chocolates I have had in the Raleigh Durham area !! I am so glad I chose to goto this shop after eating lunch at Nana’s tacos. I walk in and notice immediately that the chocolates are skillfully made by noticing a couple awesome displays. Then I got to meet the shop owner who was extremely nice and took time out to show us a couple of different chocolates. I first had a habanero and mango chocolate that was surprisingly delicious and spicy. next I had a balsamic and pink pepper chocolate that had many layers of flavor, first I got the pepper and dark chocolate that had a nice spice to it then the filling turned into a sweet fruity caramel. I have experience in chocolate making and to be able to build layers of flavor takes a lot of skill, and a lot of experimenting. I am excited to go again and try more of her chocolates(which I can’t say about a lot of places) do yourself a favor and stop by the chocolate shop.

My husband and I got married in NJ this summer, but as he is from the Durham area his parents wanted to throw us a party when we were in NC for Thanksgiving for people who were not able to make it to the wedding. My mother-in-law got the cake for the party from Miel Bön Bons and it was absolutely fantastic! Not only was it beautiful but it also tasted delicious – lemon cake, pistachio pastry cream, and fresh raspberries. It was definitely a hit! Bonnie Lau also incorporated our wedding colors and some tropical sugar flowers on top to represent our upcoming honeymoon to Turks and Caicos. In addition, we had some chocolates from the shop on Thanksgiving Day and they were delicious as well – particularly the chocolate covered orange slice! I definitely hope to get some more tasty treats from Miel Bön Bons the next time we are in Durham.

Bonnie Lau and her team at Miel Bön Bons get 5 stars and an A++ for creating the most BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS wedding cake for my wedding on June 28, 2014 at The Cotton Room. Bonnie is more than just an expert baker — she is a creator with a vision and gorgeous execution. She replicated a cake I saw on Pinterest better than the original! And more than that — the cake was beyond delicious. Very intricate and delicate flavors and combinations I’ve never seen before! We had 4 different flavors in our tiered cake which included: 1) Vanilla Cake with White Chocolate Mousse, Passionfruit Gelée and Hazelnut Crunch, 2) Devil’s Food Cake with Dark Chocolate Velvet, Blood Orange Mousse and NY Cheesecake and 3) Lemon Genoise Cake with Lemon & Raspberry Mousse and Fresh Raspberries(the 4th flavor is a surprise for my husband in our anniversary cake!). Bonnie also created two gorgeous French macaron towers for us(total of 250 macarons) in our favorite flavors: Vanilla Bean, Raspberry Chambord and Salted Caramel and ensured that the colors coordinated with our wedding(she hand painted the salted caramel ones gold!). I live in NYC and am addicted to Laduree and these were ASGOOD(I don’t through that comparison around lightly!). Bonnie was a pleasure to work with — we never ever felt rushed(and I can be indecisive!) and she is both courteous and professional. I know there are some other bakeries in the area that are less expensive, but you get what you pay for in the end, and paying a little extra at Miel Bön Bons is 100% worth it if you want your desserts to be truly delicious rather than the wedding cake that no one really eats. I will be using Miel Bön Bons for all my dessert catering needs in the future. Thank you Miel Bön Bons for making my wedding desserts spectacular!

Adorable little shop. Only tried the macaroons which were pretty good. Nothing mind blowing but the shop owner(or I think she was) was super sweet and the pictures of cakes in the store were beautiful.

This review is for wedding cakes. and I originally posted this for the old location; but it is important to share my experience for those who are looking for a wedding cake vendor… I would recommend going elsewhere, as you deserve to be treated with kindness. From 2012: «I had a wedding cake tasting that was arranged via email, and when I arrived, no one was there to greet me or even knew I was coming. Because of my crazy work schedule I didn’t have a chance to look at other cake vendors, and thought the cake at Miel Bön Bons was superb. The customer service on the other hand is lacking. The owner was incredibly rude to me. First, she insulted the non-traditional wedding colors(multi-color) that I had selected and said that my bridesmaids would not look that great next to me in grey, and the other colors I selected. Second, I had my fiancé call to make the last payment on our bill about a month before the wedding, and when I went to drop off the cake stand after eating the delicious(and lovely) cake, they were like „you still owe this amount“…We had already called to pay it a month before the wedding. Why were they bothering me about this. I’m not sure, I was just married 2 days before, and had already ‘thought’ I had paid. I would recommend visiting other bakeries for your wedding cake, as when you’re spending $ 500+ on a cake, you should be treated with respect.»

This review is for the macarons only. I didn’t try the chocolates(also $ 2 a piece) or cakes. The good: Fresh, house-made macarons in Durham! Flavors are bright, and the texture is light on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. I thought they were a teeny bit denser than I wanted, but it could have been because they had been stored in the refrigerator. The owner packaged them up in a nice box, too. The less good: Macarons are sold in bags of 4, which are pre-bagged and stored in a fridge. So no pretty display or flavor choices, which was a little disappointing — I believe part of the fun of high-end pastries is choosing them! Finally, I felt they were way overpriced at $ 2 per macaron(compared to $ 2.70 Ladurée in NYC, which are bigger, fresher, displayed more prettily, and still subject to NYC/Ladurée markups). Overall, I’d go back if I HAD to have a macaron right that moment, but I’d also consider endeavoring to make my own… or recruit a friend with better baking skills than I.

Really amazing cupcakes we had at a recent birthday party(some lemon, and some chocolate) by Miel Bön Bön that led us to order a pear tarte when we had guests staying with us. It was amazing, too, on par with desserts I’ve had at really top notch restaurants on the coasts. And they’re also really nice. Gave my son a treat to munch on while we were picking up our order because they could see he was having trouble holding back with all the delicious chocolates everywhere. We are lucky to have them in Durham.

I certainly can’t complain that this little confectionary treasure has packed up and departed Car Mill Mall for a Durham location. The shop is small, but features an array of truffles and pastries. In two visits, I’ve been disappointed to see the pastry case empty, as these guys are noted for their stellar macarons, and have pretty good cupcakes too. But I hand-selected some chocolates for stocking stuffers this year. They were placed in a pretty box and packaged up with a festive bow. Though the truffles are not quite as aesthetically perfect as some chocolatiers, their taste and quality of ingredients certainly shines. Friendly folks, too!

This place is truly a hidden gem! They have delicious fine, on-site made traditional chocolates. They’re awesome. But, what’s more, they have these super creative inventions — like lime grass & coconut, chipotle chocolate, ginger, and lavender truffles. Given this selection, I had so much fun picking out individualized boxes to give to family members. The owners are extremely nice and friendly. They were so welcoming and fun to talk to that I really could have spent all day there! Check it out!
