Our first time at Manbites Dog Theater was last evening. Nice! Found out there was a parking lot available to patrons directly across the street(shared with other neighboring businesses). The people we encountered, very friendly and accommodating. A nice open feeling lobby space, with refreshments, including wine and beer at more than fair prices. The black box style intimate theater space was easy to navigate, with a bounty of good seats. The performance, beginning with the sound, lighting, and minimalist but totally effective set design, very well done. The cast, caliber of acting and energy among them, made the night exceptional. We consider ourselves fortunate to have glommed onto tickets for one of the«just added» few dates for Philip Dawkins’ The Homosexuals. There looks to be one more weekend of performances next week. If you’re on the fence, go! It’s a terrific, superbly written, directed and acted play. Bravo!

whoa. I guess with avante garde, there’s bound to be a play here that I’m not sure if I really understand. They had a pretty good track record(truly loved every single show I’ve seen here up til now…) Nevertheless I still love this place. You can’t complain about the reasonable prices, the cute underground local feel and the fact that they’re daring enough to put on the most daring, raw, contemporary, unconventional, progressive productions. Kudos to them.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing two plays at Manbites due to my friend having a part and being Assistant Director. Manbites is community in and of itself, or at least that’s how it feels, which is pleasant. There have been enough seats on both occasions and free treats and coffee in the lobby. The actors are obviously passionate about performing at this non-profit theater.

Just so everyone knows up front, this is not DPAC by any stretch of the imagination. Seating capacity might be 100 people tops. The lobby décor is not for the prudish, and the play we saw was definitely aimed at mature adults(as opposed to immature wannabe adults). The stage itself is small, very simple, and 4 sided. There’s a production booth back in one corner. The only props for this play were two chairs and a jacket… again, simplicity was worked into the«less is more» type of production. The lighting helps set the tone and emotion of the production as well, and that was also well done.

This is a cute little venue as well, with some top quality shows. Very intimate and I believe there is no assigned seats. Get there early and line up. parking is free and across the street.
