Lucky ducky East Durham! This library is great. First, I am a HUGE fan of public libraries, the day that I don’t have at LEAST one library book in my possession will be a very sad day. It’s as easy as 1. requesting your book online 2. receiving an email that your book is ready 3. picking up your book(at your requested library)! Why more people don’t take advantage of public libraries is beyond me, you can seriously find anything there: Lonely Planet copies, magazines, cookbooks and ANY how to book, audio books and audio«cassettes» to learn new languages, music CD’s, DVD’s(movies ANDTV series), PLUS, the plethora of books, latest novels, any age, any genre. Now that I’ve gushed about my love of libraries, let me tell you why I personally love Durham’s East Regional Library. It’s huge, located in a neighborhood(not a university), with large windows that let in lots of natural lighting. There are tons of tabletops for studying, computer monitors for browsing, you can book a meeting room(cap. 100) or study room(cap. 8) online plus use the photocopier. They have TONS of programs for ALL ages(including bookclubs and even ballroom dancing lessons!) in addition to free wifi. And, even though the space was built in 2006, it feels brand new! Oh wait, and it’s also LEED certified. The only downside, it’s 20 minutes from downtown Durham. But if you’ve got the time and don’t mind the drive, this is a perfect, quiet, spot for an afternoon with the kiddies or a study session.
