Such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Very cool in the summer heat. New and stately appearance and kept very clean. Helpful staff and neatly organized sections. Lots activities on a daily/weekly basis from training classes to simple social craft gatherings. Spacious seating and low noise, unlike the downtown location.

Tons of free books… I’m always shocked to see that libraries carry recently released books and not just classics. I can’t quite understand why I continue to buy books when it’s so easy to borrow them from the library. Plus the self checkout system is ridiculously fast and easy. Online renewals mean you can keep a book for eternity, unless somebody else puts on hold on it.

This is a really nice, new, spacious branch of the Durham public library. The only section that I’ve seen is the children’s section, and it is huge and well-stocked with plenty of board books, picture books, and easy first-readers. The shelves are low to the ground so that they are very accessible to young readers, and display cases are often colourful and interesting, designed to inspire curiosity and intrigue. Baby laptimes(Wednesday mornings) are popular here amongst the SAHM crowd, for good reason. The meeting room is large and spacious and the bubbles at the end of the session are amazing! Rhymes and songs by Erica are great, although she tends to repeat the same ones week to week. All in all, a wonderful venue for introducing babies and young children to the world of reading.

Love, love, love this new location. Big widows help open up the space and bring a lot of natural light in. I typically reserve books online and pick them up when they’re ready. I can easily drop off boxes inside or outside the location, pick up books available on a hold shelf, check out electronically, have the receipt emailed to me and get a updates on when the book is due back or when a book is ready to be picked up. Parking is usually ample, except on busy days. Also, be sure to check their hours, they have, how does one say… odd hours. For example on Fridays they’re open from 2−6pm. The location is clean, has art outside, history of the area in the entrance way, and provides a welcoming atmosphere.

At some point in the past two decades(and I’m not exactly sure how it happened), I forgot how awesome libraries are. However, I am happy to report that the newest branch of the Durham County Public Library has corrected this deplorable state of existence! So what is it about South Regional that I love so much? Let’s see… there’s the quick and easy self-checkout stations, the great selection of DVDs(including a good number of recent releases), a huge kids section with low, easy-to-access shelves, lots of comfortable seating, free WiFi, and numerous conveniently-located power outlets. But most of all, I really love having my own library card again! This branch also has a magazine reading room, private study/meeting rooms that can be reserved in advance, and an area where they let you eat snacks. I know they have regular events of various kinds, but truthfully that hasn’t really been on my radar. One last thing, the Durham Library system has a great website that let’s you manage renewals and reservations, and request items from other branches. Hooray! Reading!

The Revere Rd. location has been shut down and the new South Regional branch was opened as of the end of July. The new library is wonderful. The shelving layout is very user friendly and there is an ample amount of tables and seating areas for those who would like to sit or study awhile. It’s good to know that our tax dollars are going towards renovating community resources such as this fine library!
