Last school year, Mike contracted with our elementary school PTA to provide food for a fundraising event. He cancelled less than 24 hrs prior to the event and never returned the $ 600 deposit to the school. Terrible way to do business.

I don’t usually see the Blue Sky Dining truck around Durham, so I was excited to get a taste at the June Raleigh food truck rodeo. Their menu looked really good(I’m still a bit regretful I was too full to also try the beer-battered grilled cheese). We settled on splitting a seafood cake(crab, shrimp, and lobster) sandwich for $ 10(a little steep but for quality seafood ingredients, I’m happy to pay a bit more than the seemingly standard $ 8/food-truck sandwich price). Service: The ordering service was a bit confusing. Instead or ordering at the counter, paying, and getting a number(or playing card or giving someone your name), you gave your order to a guy with a clipboard, and then they’d call your order(no name, just what it was) and you came to the front to pay and collect it. As a result, I think a few people that ordered after me got their sandwiches before I did(oh well, you live and you learn). Food: The seafood cake was delicious – you’d have to like seafood, because it did have that seafoody taste to it, but there were big pieces of lump crab/shrimp/lobster and very little filler.(My boyfriend, who ate the other half of the sandwich would give it five stars — he really enjoyed it). The slaw that came with the sandwich was quite tasty, as was the spicy mayo. The whole thing worked well together. Only cons are the pretty steep(though not unjustifiable) price and the fact that the bun got pretty soggy by the end of it.

Missed the easy opportunity to give Blue Sky a shake when I moved away from Copper Creek, where I used to drive by them on my way home all the time. They typically offer a call-ahead service where you can place an order from their online menu, and then pick up from their truck. Voila: Instant dinner! Their food truck rodeo menu was a bit different — MD crabcakes, pulled pork bbq sammie, or bbq beef brisket sammie. Being the good North Carolinian I am, I ordered the pork sandwich on a hoagie. It was served with cole slaw directly on it; not a giant slaw fan, I thought about asking for it on the side, but they recommended I try it together. I did and I’m really GLAD I did because the slaw made the sandwich. Unfortunately, the pork today was a bit on the dry side and I was sad to discover it didn’t appear to have any bbq sauce(Eastern, Western, or otherwise!) on it; so the slaw really saved the day in that regard, adding some texture and taste. The $ 6 meal also came with a side of their homemade chips which are thin, light, and don’t feel greasy. I love that they make their own chips! But to me, they didn’t measure up to the ones that Sandwhich serves. Still, of the many trucks I’ve tried, this one seems a pretty good bargain — and the«instant dinner» menu(with offerings like shrimp & sausage gumbo, polenta, and Irish Whiskey Cake) does sound darn good.
