I’m originally from Texas, so seeing something calling itself Serious Texas BBQ in Colorado, I was skeptical. I ordered the brisket, pulled pork, and turkey for a family event while in town. The prices were reasonable for the amount of meat we received, and the meat was pretty good. The turkey was well spiced, and the pulled pork had a good flavor. The brisket was my least favorite of the three, but it was ok. It had a strong smoke flavor, but didn’t present much in the way of spices. They also had a large variety of sauces, but neither of the two specialty ones we tried presented a very strong flavor(cherry or chipotle). The regular sauce was pretty good, but being from Texas, I would love to see a much spicier version of their classic sauce. All in all, I was surprised at the quality of barbecue, and it seems to be the best barbecue I found in the Durango area.

This place was recommended by the hotel staff. They said, this is where all the locals go. Food is fair, price is reasonable. Food is over salted. I’m not sure if anyone behind the counter tastes the food during the day. The beans were so salty you can not eat them. Had brisket and pulled pork. Again on the salty side. As others have mentioned the coleslaw is hot/spicy. I doubt if I would return to the restaurant though it may be the best bbq in the area.

This place is awesome. True budget value. No-nonsense friendly counter-service with as many ultra-tasty sauces as your heart desires(the pulled pork was a touch dry but awesome flavor and great value for the money). On a warm day the whole place is open-air old-fashioned fun BBQ goodness. And their self-serve pickles are super. I was made mucho happy!

This place knows how to do bbq. Try the Big 6 sampler of beef brisket, turkey, pulled pork, ribs and smoked sausage. Then delight your senses with the multitude of sauces and condiments. The cherry-chipotle salsa was my favorite but they all rock. Service was friendly and efficient. Location is clean and nicely decorated with Texas memorabilia. Highly recommend trying this place!

We came by for lunch after a few hours of riding Horse Gulch. We both had the Texas Taco and thought it was awesome. The staff was super nice as well. We sat outside(great patio), enjoyed the ambience, and would come here again.

The service was good, the prices are very good and the food was ok. It’s a solid place to take the family for a meal when no one can seem to agree on where to go. :) My favorites were the pulled pork and the turkey.

Great BBQ and friendly folks behind the counter. I had the brisket sandwich and it was loaded with brisket! Shiner and Lonestar beer available for $ 3 which is a great price considering Shiner is $ 3 in San Antonio which is right down the street from the brewery. I hooked them up with some Shiner Birthday beer, an Alamo brewing sticker, and a Busted Sandal Brewery sticker. Great place to eat if you are in Durango, CO. This was the one North of town by Knights Inn.

The name says it all– Serious! I ordered a brisket sandwich and the cheesy potatoes. The brisket sandwich had to be at least a half pound of meat. It was bigger than any burger I have ever eaten. The potatoes were nice and cheesy, with some nice spice. Barbecue sauce on the table was in a bottle as big as a tequila jug– because that’s what it was. The brisket was tender and I even got some burnt ends in my sandwich. A nice touch. Be sure and get yours with the pickles and onions. Share the sandwich with a friend so you can have room for some delicious cobbler with ice cream.

Very good tender brisket… watch out for cole slaw because it is very spicy hot. Great deck and clean overall

Prices are good. Food was ok. The texas tacos were good but the pork was dry. The kids had the ribs. They were good but needed to be smoked a bit longer. The meat wouldn’t even bite off the bone. Their sauce was real good though and i liked that it was served in old whiskey bottles. It’s a decent place. We kinda hit it off time so that may have had something to do with it too. Check it out.

This isn’t 4 star barbeque :-(We’ve had barbeque throughout the south, southeast, midwest, and Texas, and in comparison this barbeque is merely acceptable. Wouldn’t return here again. The pulled pork had very little flavor. When prepared correctly, meat should have a wonderful flavor on its own, with sauce adding only an accent. This pork was bland. Needed the barbeque sauce, though very little was added to the sandwich.(And the specific type of sauce wasn’t available at the tables, so we couldn’t add more.) As we stood in line, we asked other patrons what they would recommend. Quite a few said the Texas Taco, which is meat, cheesy potatoes, and a couple of condiments on a tortilla. They raved about it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very good at all. It consisted of about 80% room temperature cheesy potatoes, 10% meat, and 10% condiments. Very difficult to eat. Too bulky to eat as a taco, so we used forks, but what is the point of making it a taco if it can’t be eaten that way? We ordered a pint of cheesy potatoes($ 6). How could we go wrong with that? But they were room temperature. The cheese was cold and congealed, acting as a gunky glue that welded the potato chunks together. And the pint was only ¾ full. For $ 6, fill the darned container! The atmosphere was a pleasant, faux-art-directed Texas barbeque joint type of place. Open, bright, and clean, with all of the expected memorabilia covering the walls. An odd and somewhat suspicious occurrence. Sweetie paid with a credit card and brought the food to the table. At some point he mentioned that the bill seemed high for what we got. $ 35. We added up our order, and found that it should only have been $ 27. We went to the counter to ask about the discrepancy. Before we had finished explaining, and without missing a beat, the woman behind the counter said, oh, an extra sandwich must have been added on, would a $ 7 cash refund work? Hmmm. Perhaps this was simply excellent customer service. But the alacrity of her response made us wonder if this overcharging is a regular occurrence, and those few people who notice it are quickly compensated.

If you have been to Rudy’s it’s about the same but not as good. With its name I was expecting something pretty serious only to be seriously dissapointed. Brisket was kinda dry but pulled pork was ok. If ur gonna put the name of Serious Texas BBQ ut better be pretty srious. And this unfortunately was not. So they get 3 dry slices of brisket

Texas tacos are a must, don’t question it, just order them. This traditional take on smoked meats and BBQ adds a bit of unique flare with things like Texas Tacos, Stuffed Spuds and Cheesy Potatoes. Their vinegar based BBQ sauce is some of the most incredible shit on the planet, it soaks into everything you put it on and is by far the ABSOLUTEBESTBBQSAUCE of ALLTIME! It’s a great place if you’re on a college budget and is often times packed with the local college crowd, but fear not, they cater to all ages, shapes and wallet sizes! I’m craving a Texas Taco right now just writing about this place. Two locations in town for your impromptu smoked meat cravings, no matter what part of town you’re in.

Enjoying the ever popular beef brisket sandwich. When I think of good bbq, this is the only place that comes to mind. All of the meats are delicious and tender. Brisket sandwich is served with meat, onion, pickes, and(of course) bread. The meat has the perfect amount of smoke flavor. Each table has there own bottle of house bbq sauce that is light and tangy. It’s not overpowering and let’s you taste the goodness of the meat. I can’t speak more highly of this restaurant. Everything is delicious! Heck, even Tigers love it!

Serious Texas is pretty good for Durango, but it’s not the best BBQ I’ve ever had. However, some of their items are worth showing up for, aka the famous«Texas taco» which I order every time I go. Serious has a bunch of different meats you can order(brisket, pulled pork, ribs) as well as sides(potato salad, macaroni, beans). Even with all the options I always get the Texas taco because it’s cheap, fills you up, and it tastes pretty rocking with the sauce. The taco includes meat, cheesy potatoes, onions, and jalapenos. I usually drench the taco with the sauce that is placed on every table and it tastes delicious! I’ve had the potato salad as well and that’s pretty good, but usually I just focus on the taco because it’s a lot of food and you don’t need any extras. Aside from the taco, I tried the brisket sandwich one time and it wasn’t anything special. I keep coming back for the taco though; the meat + potato + sauce combo is noms.

Seriously average BBQ, and having lived in Texas,(born and raised there), I know excellent BBQ, and this is not it. I had the pulled pork sandwich with cherry-chipotle sauce and while it hit the spot,(I was starving), it was just ok. Sweet tea was definitely on the sweet side, but I like it like that. I can’t vouch on any of their sides as I didn’t have any as I didn’t find any of them appealing.

I’m giving this BBQ joint a solid 4 stars for its food. The pulled pork with the raspberry chipotle sauce was money. Add a side of cheesy potatoes with a jug of the homemade BBQ sauce at the table and you have a good time! Lots of meat choices from ribs to brisket.
