As a Durango local I should put this at five stars to help the local tourist sutuation. I can’t do that. Is it fun? Sure is! Is the food good? Sure when compared to boyscout camp food. Don’t expect a gourmet meal and you will be happy. It’s camp food folks. The flat picker in the band is off the charts. If you have ever seen an old Roy Rogers western and want to live that trip then you will be happy with this place. Even as a local I try to go once a year. It’s good clean fun but that’s it. It’s not mind blowing, it’s just good old family fun. You have to be pretty up-tight to not enjoy a night out at the Bar D.

I’m not going to try and tell you the beef/chicken options are gourmet but they are decent the beans are chili beans and Excellent bake potato good but get extra butter, apple sauce and spice cake also very good. I saw the steaks and they looked Very good, next time. 5 stars from me because it’s not just the food you are here for. It is the whole experience. People watching the setting the location(right against the red rock cliffs east of Durango) the cool mountain air the entertainment. The whole package is definitely 5 stars ! They have this down to an art because you’ll be sitting there thinking, it’s going to take Forever to get all these people through the line for food. I was and you’ll be shocked at just how efficiently it goes. The entertainment after dinner was great fun. I could tell these guys really love what they do. Music with comedy mixed in. They can Play too. Award winning performers and the lead is a National champion guitar picker. I rarely smile but did the whole evening and all the way home. It was as good a time as I’ve had in a while. Something not to miss in Durango.

I wanted to leave before the evening even started! After seeing an employee assist another group with seating a handicapped patron, I asked what I needed to do to get a handicapped seat for my mother in law. The guy(whom I was later told is the OWNER!!) was unbelievably rude and condescending to me, and in front of so many other patrons. I went back to our seat with my mother in law in her wheelchair and moved her from the chair and onto the picnic bench!!! Note that there were other tables that had handicapped accessible seats available, even after the evening started. This was a treat for her, so we decided to stay. Otherwise we would have left immediately.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend the evening with kids or a large group, Bar D is a great place to got. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid in the mid-70’s, and not much has changed! It’s about 20 minutes outside of downtown Durango, with clearly marked signs and free parking. They are set up to serve and entertain up to 500 people at a time, so be prepared to share your experience with lots of other tourists. Dinner is usually served at 7:00, bur if you get there early, you can ride a little train or check out the gift shops, built to look like a little pioneer village. The musicians are sometimes on hand, playing at the booth where they sell CDs. Once the dinner bell rings, you’ll find a seat at large wooden picnic tables. They’ll begin a very organized system of lining everyone up to get their meal. There’s not much here for vegetarians… chicken or beef with baked potato and beans on the side. You can order a rib-eye steak when you make your reservation, but this must be done in advance; they only cook enough for how many reservations they have! The line moves very quickly, so if you have any dietary concerns or food allergies, let them know before you take your place in line. The only beverage choices are water, lemonade or coffee… I wish it was possible to order a beer, but I understand why they choose to run a «dry» operation. Once everyone is served, the show begins, and it’s time to sit and enjoy a 70 minute set of great cowboy songs and humor. Don’t expect country music; they distinguish their cowboy songs with great harmonies and world-class musicianship.

The bar d is a fun little town where you get entertainment and a great dinner. The show makes sure everyone is having fun and the food is fantastic. I suggest getting the steak because it tastes amazing. They have many fun gift stores and activities you can do as well. I suggest that if you’re passing through Durango you should definitely go to the Bar D.

Hilarious show, very talented musicians. I’ve been here twice and both times the crowd gave a standing ovation. The food is good and hearty. I highly recommend this place for anyone in southwest Colorado.

Had an awesome time here. Food was actually pretty tasty despite other reviews. They had food served very efficiently. Songs were corny but also funny.

I think this experience is mainly geared towards children and people over 65. We weren’t really impressed with the food and the entertainment. But, I’ve got to tell you… the customer service was out-of-this-world. Very impressive. The food was not very good, but considering how many people they feed and how quickly they fed us, it could have been worse. We didn’t like the chicken and the beef swimming in a very sweet BBQ sauce. The steaks were fine. The trimmings weren’t anything to write home about. You have to be a fan of cowboy music to enjoy the show. Do NOT bring teens to this show! I was observing the audience and felt sorry for them. A lot of them were shaking their heads and rolling their eyes(I’m a professional musician who performs with Lyle Lovett, so I know good music). There was way too much religion in the show and I could understand why some people might find that offensive. There was one song that was highly offensive to me and my Latina wife. Ghost Riders in the Sky was rewritten to Lowriders in the Sky. The guy who sang it wore a bandana and made fun of Latinos in an extremely offensive way with lyrics that were totally inappropriate in a family setting.

This was a very fun time. We road the train when we first got there. The food was good. The entertainment was fun. It was just the two of us, but it would be a good time for a family outing too.

We had spent the day in Silverton and have been told about this restaurant and entertainment. We call them and made a reservation and then drove out that way arriving at 645 walking up to the office to make the order. While standing there waiting our turn after just one couple the gentleman said it was too late to order the ribeye steaks the cut off was at 645 we arrived at 645 but had to wait our turn. Needless to say the gentleman that was greeting at the front door was rude, condescending and completely inappropriate. y Having come from Texas I do not feel like paying $ 28 for a chicken breast and after his rude and condescending behavior it was at the best choice to turn around and walk away. I do not recommend this facility!

I admit it, I was skeptical. But we were visiting family in Durango, and this was their suggestion for dinner and entertainment, so what was I going to do? It turns out I should have quieted my cynical city girl. Bar D Chuckwagon Suppers was a lot of fun and quality entertainment to boot. You pay $ 21 for a meal ticket and claim a stretch of picnic table for your group. When dinner is ready, they clang a dinner bell and people proceed in an orderly fashion by table into the mess hall. The experience is much like a Western-style cafeteria. You take a divided tin plate and then people in hairnets scoop roast chicken, baked potato, cornbread, beans, and the most delicious cake onto it. All of the food was surprisingly good, and the staff was generous about providing seconds after everyone had gotten firsts. Once you return to your seat, the entertainment begins. The dinner show consists of a quartet performing musical/comedy pieces for about 90 minutes. In keeping with the theme, most of the show is old-style country music. I was very impressed with the quality of the performances. These were genuinely talented musicians. It was a fun, upbeat performance and the crowd had a lot of enthusiasm and energy. Bar D Chuckwagon Suppers was the best kind of kitschy fun. If you’re in Durango and want to experience something«Western,» give this a go!
