Average bar food, most of the time I have eaten here the food was decent and service was ok, but every now and again food is terrible and service follows suit but hey it’s a bar.

First let me say the place was not busy when we arrived! So, for the distracted waitress who wouldn’t wait on us had no business working if she seriously couldn’t handled 3 tables. We were told a minimum 5 times that she’d be with us in a minute. 20 minutes later we finally got to order something to drink with an attitude by the way. When I asked for the wifi password she rolled her eyes and said she didn’t have time for that and yelled at the bartender to give it to us, who was then yelling it out over the bar. Menu was huge, way too much to choose from. When food came, it was seriously basic bar food. My brother ordered the nachos, in which, the waitress told him when ordering she didn’t know what he was talking about and for him to show her on the menu. When the nachos came, it was a plate of beans with melted cheese, which I saw her microwave and basket of stale chips. I ordered a burger based on other reviews, it came on a sub bun and it had no flavor, I didn’t even finish it. Anyway, prices are cheap and now I see why. It’s a local bar/restaurant and we were not locals, and certainly felt like it. Oh, and the other thing, the owners dog got out and was walking around the restaurant trying to get scraps of food. She was a sweet dog though, when I asked the waitress who’s dog it was, they freaked and removed the dog immediately. They did apologize for the dog and afterwards actually started to treat us better than before. I wasn’t upset about the dog at all, I was more upset about the way we were treated from moment one. I don’t go into restaurants/bars to be treated like a big of crap. I don’t expect them to be over friendly, but a little bit goes a long way. I will not be back there.

Times I go here include: thanksgiving when I want anything except the traditional food being served to my family every year. However when I get there and order I’m always disappointed. This place isn’t professional it’s not consistent it’s a small town greasy spoon that over extends its menu spreading themselves too wide and concentrating /perfecting nothing. I would rather warm something up in the microwave and stay home. Being high doesn’t even make this food good at best it’s passable. It’s good for an emergency like no power and it’s two am and you want a hot meal, it doesn’t have to be good, it just has to be hot which even this seems to be a challenge for them sometimes. I once got a wet burrito that could be described as luke warm at best… On the outside so the inside was room temp upon arrival at table.

I would rather go to McDonald’s than this disgusting slaughter house if a restaurant. The food is unsanitary and over all low grade. I once had a 16 oz. steak there and at least 6 oz. of it was fat. Their meat is extremely low quality, Iron Horse is definitely not recommend.

Stopped in for lunch recently on road trip from Ontario back to Illinois. Great burgers and friendly staff. The rest of the menu looks extensive offering all day breakfast, Mexican, daily specials etc. Excellent value for money. Will definitely go back next time we are passing on the I-69.

These guys make a real burger. I had the XYZ with bacon and olives and mozzarella. 10 oz, cooked right, on a fresh hoagie roll. Go for the hand dipped onion rings. Old school, light and crispy. Very friendly staff too!

This place for me is really hard to rate. First of all I think it’s the only place in Durand that is open 24 hours so that there is a plus. Their breakfast menu is great and has a lot of variety. But I think the rest of their menu has a lot to be desired. I got to Durand late one night after all the other restaurants were closed and was hungry. Went to the Iron Horse and ordered chicken fingers. What I got was a chicken breast that was breaded and cut into 4 or 5 pieces. The breading fell off all the chicken so I was left with strips of chicken covered in fat. Totally disgusting. I found the first garbage can I could find and tossed the whole thing out. However I think they do make a great breakfast so that is why I’m giving them 3 stars.

I have been here a few times and the food is always pretty good. The menu is huge, everything from Walleye, Perch, Froglegs and Steaks, the locally famous Rail Burger to Burritos and the very popular Stuffed Potatoes. Nice place to have a beer and then have a menu that isn’t limited to deep fried foods; I had the baked Walleye dinner this time and it was very good.
