This was such a lucky find! I don’t live in Georgia, but I needed some yarn during my visit. I found Rare Purls on Unilocal and stopped by. They had a nice selection of high-end/low-end fibers and some beautiful yarns from local spinners and dyers that I went a little overboard on :) She also had a decent selection of books and patterns. The owner, Kay and her husband, we’re so sweet and went out of their way to help us. Kay printed us out patterns, gave us tips, helped us find the right yarn, while her husband went in the back and used the swift on our yarn purchases. We came back for her Wednesday night class and were so happy we did. Kay is a pro and taught us so much. If I lived here I’d be back often. The other ladies in the group were very kind and helpful as well. Very welcoming. This find was a highlight for sure!

I found this place today randomly via google while I was thinking about starting a new knitting project and needed a place nearby Norcross to buy some yarn. I’m really glad I found it. It’s in a near little part of Duluth. They lady who works there Kay is super sweet. She spent a lot of time with me, talking about projects, different types of yarn and gave me a free pattern to try something new. The store is small, but it’s get good quality yarn which is reasonably priced. There’s also a free Friday knitting session which I’ll definitely be checking out soon. It’s also attached to a great little café and when the weather is nice, you can sit out on the porch and knit with a drink. Talk about heaven. The store isn’t quite 2 years old yet, so if you’re looking for a Local Yarn Shop in the Gwinnett county area, I highly recommend checking it out.

I am just learning how to knit and Rare Purls is an awesome place for that. They have amazing lessons to choose from and you can take them in a group or as an individual. My mom, grandmother and I have been taking the introduction class together and it is so much fun. Kay and her son Luke are the owners and could not be any nicer. They are so patient with all the questions and all the troubleshooting we have encountered while learning. There is a wonderful selection of yarn and you know that thought and care goes into each yarn selected for Kay usually as some facts or stories about the yarns she has. There is also an awesome Friday Night Knitting Circle at the shop starting at 5pm where you can meet with other knitters, see other projects, get help with your own project, chit chat and have a drink. It honestly has become a Friday ritual to begin the weekend with some knitting and talking.

There’s a surprising amount of yarn in here, considering how small the store is. They’ve got several kinds of Cascade for your basic projects, plus a good selection of luxury yarns and yarns from local spinners and dyers. As the other review mentioned they also have an awesome selection of spinning fiber. They even have smaller hanks if you want to try a little spinning without committing to a $ 30 hank of enormity. The lady who helped me was very friendly and I really enjoyed my time in here.

I just only recently found out about this new LYS thanks to Ravelry. What I liked most about this store, is the friendliness of the staff. I felt instantly welcomed by Luke, one of the co-owners. As for the yarn, the selection is a bit smaller compared to some of the other Atlanta yarn shops. But they do have a nice mix of low-end and high-end fibers. Plus they have some yarns I haven’t seen at some of the other shops. Rare Purls also has the largest selection of hand-dyed spinning fiber I’ve seen at a LYS. Rare Purls doesn’t have a sign yet. But they’re located in the same building as Park Café in downtown Duluth.
